Windows 7 is the best. That is a fact, not an opinion. Windows 8 SUCKS. The new ui is retarded and lackds many features. WindowsXP/Vista are way outdated too.

Don't know if you've looked at it but Microsoft has a FREE update to Windows 7 that adds touch functionality. Not quite as good as Win8 touch but more than enough to make the woes of 8 the deciding factor. Search for "Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 1.0.40517.00" and see what you think.
Add touch to Win7, keep all of your present software working (no upgrade fees), keep the desktop in its useable form and lose that nasty MUI (if you really need it, try large icon size on the desktop). Seems like a win-win!
