I grew up around a lot of latinos, and most of them are Catholic. I would go to so many apartments where they had a sign on the door saying, "No Catholics Allowed in this Home." I'm not catholic or even christian so I never really felt comfortable going into their houses the first time, half expecting to be punished as some sort of heretic. That rule being posted on the door isn't helpful or nice. A nice note asking you to take off your shoes, or hat or something is acceptable though.
One rule I remember being posted in a friends bathroom said, "This is a house, there's not one tree so be polite and sit to pee." This note resonates with me even twenty years later.
