I have used dolphin browser on my kindle fire HD 7" nearly exclusively since day one, mainly due to wanting to be able to enjoy news clips and videos. I have also recently had trouble with Dolphin. it goes dark and stops periodically. I shut down my Fire and reopen, then it starts working again. I would be open to using Silk, if there was an easier way to get videos to play better from the web I use google browser on my android phone and like it's simple ease of use and functionality.

I began having difficulties with my Dolphin browser last week on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9. When I launched the Dolphin app, it would unexpectedly close out to the homescreen carousel. My friend and colleague in the Kindle Help Forum experienced the exact same issue. It turned out that we had both received an automatic update not currently shown on the Kindle Software Updates page in Amazon. We discovered in the Kindle Forums what had happened. We scrambled to find other browsers that would work as fluidly as Dolphin, finding Silk to be both slow and not user-friendly. We were quite relieved when a fellow poster informed us that Dolphin would be functional as long as flash was disabled in its settings (or Flashplayer was uninstalled). My brother's website is flash-based and he was thinking of purchasing a Kindle Fire HD. However, if this Flashplayer blocking of alternative browsers is a permanent situation, he will definitely not be purchasing a Kindle Fire. I'm fairly certain that there will be a lot of other unhappy potential customers who will make the same decision. I'm hoping that this is a glitch Amazon is working on, as a lot of people don't have this update yet...not that they would want it!

I got the update when it was put up for about a day or so perhaps a month or more ago. It was quickly taken down with no explanation. At that time my "Time to Read" function stopped working. Last Saturday I noticed it had suddenly started working again. I was thrilled until I went to open default browser which is Dolphin HD. It would attempt to load a page then kickback to the Carousel. I tried several Flash enabled browsers including Firefox, Opera, Maxthon and Puffin all with the same result. By turning off Flashplayer in my browser settings I was one again able to use all of the above mentioned browsers. I personally don't have a huge need for Flash on my HD8.9 as I have it in Firefox on my laptop. I sincerely hope this was done by accident and judging by the delay in putting the update in the Help pages this may very well be the case. So I'm thrilled to have "Time to Read" restored but moderately unhappy with the Flashplayer issue.
