How do you feel about smoking on outdoor patios?

I would pay more and travel further to be able to enjoy a smoke-free terrace. I know a lot of people who would.

Since the ban on smoking inside, smokers have ruined the terrasse experience for non-smokers everywhere. I'd love to sit outside and have lunch or drinks without having to be surrounded by smokers. It's not fair. It's even worse when you are eating.

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT QUEBEC HAS DOUBLE STANDARDS AND ALOT OF HYPPROCRACY . THEY FIGHT TO BE SINGLED OUT AND SEPRATED BUT THEN AGAIN THEY GANG UP WITH PART OF CANADA IS THROWING THESE LAWS AROUNS. I WAS FOR BANNING SMOKE FROM BARS AND RESTAURANT AND I AM A SMOKER. BUT TO TAKE AWAY SMOKING ON TERRACES IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL. WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE TO BRING ON STRESS INTO THIS WORLD LIKE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OF IT.
WHAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT EATING AND DRINKING AT RESTAURANTS AND BARS ARE TAXED; SO WHY PUSH PEOPLE AWAY FROM THIS? PEOPLE WILL JUST GO GROCERY SHOPPING MORE WHICH FOOD IS NOT TAXED AND STAY AT HOME. MORE YOU PUSH PEOPLE TO STAY AT HOME THE LESS TAX THE GOVERNEMENT GETS. HOW DOUBLE STANDARD IS THIS? THE OTHER POLLUTION AND CRAP THROWN IN THE AIR IS TOLERABLE BUT NOT LEGAL CIGARETTES? PLUS TAKING AWAY TIPS AND SALARY TO WAITERS AND WAITRESSES BECAUSE OF FULL SMOKING TERRACES IS RIDICULOUS AS WELL; BUT THEN AGAIN BY DOING THIS YOUR TAKING AWAY MORE TAXES ON THE TIPS? THIS BOTHERS ME HOW HYPPROCRITICAL ALL OF THIS SOUNDS. WHY DOESN'T THE GOUVERNEMENT PUT A LAW ON POT HOLES INSTEAD? OR TEENS SMOKING MARIJUANNA WHILE DRIVING INSTEAD? AND LET THE POLICE GIVE TICKETS ON MORE MAJOR ISSUES THEN SMOKING ON TERRACES. WOW THIS JUST BAFFLES MY BRAIN

I'm afraid this is just more junk science propaganda.

    My question is this.
Just WHERE is all the scientific evidence concerning the 'dangers' of second-hand smoke? Answer...it doesn't exist.
Second hand smoke 'dangers' were invented by the anti-smoking movement to force through iniquitous bans and legislation.

The Relative Risk of second hand smoke is 1.17, which means an increase in risk of 17%...and this is INDOORS!... nevermind outdoors, where the smoke is immediately thousands of times diluted!

To put this into some sort of perspective, you've more chance of getting cancer from drinking water with a RR of 1.25, whole milk (RR 2.14), bacon (RR 3.00), and even keeping pet birds (RR 6.00). Statistically, higher cancer risks have been found for eating mushrooms, or from wearing a bra than from SHS. A bartender has a much higher statistical chance of dying in a bicycle accident, or from being left-handed and using right-handed things, than he or she has from exposure to tobacco smoke.
Would any sane person believe that a persons health can be seriously harmed by drinking water?... Of course not!...

    Robert E Madden,
Practicing chest surgeon, teacher and a former cancer researcher. Past president of the NY Cancer Society. USA

"To me the most offensive element of the smoking bans is the resort to science as "proving that environmental smoke, second hand smoke, causes lung cancer". Not only is this unproven but there is abundant and substantial evidence to the contrary. It is frustrating, even insulting, for a scientist like myself to hear the bloated statistics put out by the American Cancer Society (of which I am a member) and the American Lung Association used to justify what is best described as a political agenda."
