I checked with the geese at the Sherwood Mill Pond. They said they get up regardless of what we humans do. A few geese like take-offs in the very low early morning light (they honk just before "taxiing," others liked it when the sun was about to clear the horizon. Oh and they also said, "rowers? what rowers?"
I can't believe someone *actually* called the police about this burning issue.
At this point, I think respect (if not reverence) for nature is becoming more crucial. I certainly understand rowers wanting to "get in their workout" early and the dawn must be a lovely time on the water. But on this one, I think the geese should be undisturbed. Of course, they might honk no matter when the rowers show up but 7 am is pretty early for the "neighbors," especially on a weekend!! Or anyone who works at home, etc. We all cherish our sleep, and need it. Sigh. As a "night person" who doesn't like disturbing noise of any kind especially in the early morning, gotta vote for the geese.
