I thing the story is interesting. What happened shows the common psychological resistance of internal employees to welcome and accept any external ideas no matter how useful and valuable the might be. By luck of the bigger picture in mind the full attention was not focused on 'the bug solved problem scenario' and good will of the messenger but on the internal procedures and exercising power of a big company against an individual. This only shows luck of understanding interconnected disciplines of recruitment, company culture, mission and values at work.
