Is it time for mandatory voting in America?

The founders never ever wanted all Americans to vote only those who owned land due to what happened to the Athenian empire, when the poor figured out they could vote wealth away from the rich and destroyed Athens ability to defend it''s self, that's why only land owners were originally allowed to vote, and the reason the 15 th amendment was passed was because they didn't want to give slaves 40 acres and a mule which would have been a much better gauge, some would have gone on to success and others sold their and ended up like the poor white folks, true equality but they chickened out, and gave all men the vote to line the pockets of unscrupulous politicians just like today... So why not go back to that? Notice they never said that the land couldn't have a lean against it? So that means everyone who owns a property with a mortgage could vote, and guess what nope i don't own any property but it's the right thing to do...

The U.S. has a pathetically low turnout. We complain about issues but fail to show up and be counted at the polls. To paraphrase Eisenhower, people get the government they deserve. If I don't vote I've abdicated my right to protest.

There are already too many people voting who don't understand what they're voting for or why. If anything, we should go the other direction and start requiring testing for voting. Currently, elections are won and lost based off how good looking a candidate is, the timing of the debates against certain tv shows, and the simplicity of their arguments (the more dumbed down, the better).

Plain and simple: unless you like candidates being sold to you with slick marketing campaigns and a system of whoever has the most money wins, tweek the voting scheme so that only those voters who are educated on the issues get counted. This is the information age, after all. If voters can't be informed, they're willfully ignorant and shouldn't vote.
