sorry slow internet made me double post

  • tl - 11 years ago

@ RD I'm sorry I don't think I made myself clear. The bottom two options pretty much indicate the same thing for what flash should do in the show do it's pretty appropriate to combine the two categories. The second option represents a middle ground, they are willing to let flash back in the show but not exactly as he was portrayed in EQG (twilight's boyfriend) and since flash wasn't given too much of a role beyond that, it's basically changing the entire dynamic of the character. Because of this, I didn't count it cumulatively with the last option which was pretty much saying "put him in the show exactly as he was in EQG" which was as twilight's boyfriend. From that the results become no, yes but with provisions, and completely yes meaning that the 42% who don't want him period have the greatest percentage on this one and those who want him at least changed are in the greater majority. Regardless, even if the people who didn't like Flash were at 15% it is entirely ignorance for Milenia dan to say that since they are in the minority opinion that the people who have voiced distaste over flash are just "whining". It seems very immature to generalize a way of thinking like that.

Also, while I believe it really isn't a big deal, and actually kind of like it, that also means Alicorn Twilight is wrong.

  • Rainbow Dash - 11 years ago

@tl: I don't know where you are getting your numbers from. If you add the results of this poll together, 43% don't want to see him at all and 72% don't want them to hook up. (And honestly we are lucky the hook up option is not ahead by 1% because the way Seth analyzes polls he would say "Looks like you guys want them to hook up." The thing is, just because 57% of people would be happy with Flash Sentry being in the show does not mean he should be in the show. This is where democracy confuses a lot of people. Right now you can say that a large percentage of us like FIM since we are here in the first place, maybe 95%? So if the show creators were to go ahead with various 51%-60% major decisions as "The people have spoken," then they would end up alienating large chunks of the fandom every time, and pretty soon noone likes it anymore. (you can cut something in half more than one direction.) So if it is safe to say that 95% of us like FIM the way it is (at least mostly the way it is.) then it should not be taken in a direction that more than 5% (maybe 10% at the most) of us have strong negative feelings about.

  • tl - 11 years ago

@millenial dan what the hell are you talking about the majority doesn't want to see him at all and about 75% say that they do not want him as he was in EQG. So yeah, 3/4ths the fandom doesn't want Flash in his current incarnation which, quite frankly should be a lot higher than that.

  • L4R63N7 - 11 years ago

It's interesting that the first two have remained so close for so long.

  • Millennial Dan - 11 years ago

These results are much better than I was expecting. Just goes to show that the whiners are always the loudest, I suppose.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Flash, but... human Flash is the one we saw the most of, so we're left in a somewhat peculiar situation, I think.

  • Rainbow Dash - 11 years ago

Actually, they usually do get around this many votes, but that doesn't mean I agree with the votes.

  • and-on-a-moose - 11 years ago

    >18,000+ votes
I smell bullshit. The polls never get this many votes.

  • Prisoner_223 - 11 years ago

NO TWILIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DATING MY OC

said everyone who voted no or any variation of no.

  • Duhad - 11 years ago

Interestingly, if you think about it the poll roughly comes out to "50% say no, 25% say yes, but no ship, 25% say yes and ship." Or in other words, "75% say no ship, 25% say ship." Yet with just a few more votes EQD will post "Fans vote YES on Twilight/Flash Sentry! Surprisingly the polls where really close and t seems like only a minority of people where really opposed to having him back on the show!"

That's the problem with having a joke in the poll.

Also kinda the problem with the comic poll where the majority of people voted for Price/Cook, but had there votes split between Big Mac and RoQC so they just declared Nuhfer/Mebberson the winners because Nightmare Rarity had a smaller, but undivided fan base... and Luna.

  • Ponytime - 11 years ago

Would pretty much stop watching the show if this happened. Meghan has already said he won't be a character in the actual (non-spin off) show, it frustrates me a little how long the fandom is causing this to live on for.

  • skops - 11 years ago

    Nope Nope...
I don't think any of the mane 6 characters should ever be shipped on the show. Shipping in general should just stay in fanfics, especially in a show about friendship like MLP.

  • Heiryuu - 11 years ago

i want to see them start a relationship because i really want to see how the writing team handles introverted and intelligent twilight falling head over hooves in love with Flash and like wise seeing how they handle Twilight making time for studies, friendship, a relationship and being a princess.

  • Drax99 - 11 years ago

They already met! I personally would love to see them meet again, and for Twilight to be teased mercilessly by her friends for her little crush. Weather they go farther, meh, i don;t care. Mebbe they become friends at least, but most likely this is another world and he prolly has another interest.

Or worse, Sunset comes back and they hook up. Poor Twilight is crushed, but learns to move on. But still, teased by her friends. What are friends for, if not to point out when you are being harmonically foolish?

  • dillan - 11 years ago

a question for every ponie why wood 29% of you say Yes, but they should just be friends? cause i think Yes, and they should hook up that is my question for you p.s the nlr will beat the fullesh se for non bronys nlr stands for new luner republic same gose for non nlr and se se stands for soler empire go NLR!

  • Skoperkey - 11 years ago

If the following Mares officially date anyone, I am done with My Little Pony:

    Twilight Sparkle
    Luna
Fluttershy (exception: She can and should date Discord)

The very thought of these mares not being single turns my stomach.

  • Elite - 11 years ago

And to answer the question, yes I would. The butthurt would be delicious.

  • Elite - 11 years ago

@Cebble, there's also two "yes" answers as well.

  • badonkadonk - 11 years ago

    hell no

  • ponypie - 11 years ago

No way. None of the mane 6 should hook up with anyone, it wouldn't fit well with the show. You Fanfics/shippers can keep on dreaming those non-canon, inaccurate, loosely put together, dreams.

  • DerpyMadness - 11 years ago

They can be friends (friendship IS magic after all) but as far as shipping on the actual show, it shouldn't be. I agree that it would change the vibe of the entire show as we know it. And I think we're all missing the real issue with it: The Fanfics.

OH GOD WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE FANFICS!?!

  • Cebble - 11 years ago

There's kind of a problem with having two "no" answers in that at the end of this poll, they're just going to go with "yes" being the highest voted choice. They should probably combine both of the no answers...

  • Mushroompie - 11 years ago

I am curious on how he is as a pony

  • Polar Spectrum - 11 years ago

I actually think this could bring some funny dynamic situations into the show. I don't really care if they hook up or not, but I think there's a lot of possibilities with the characters and personalities of ALL the mane 6, in creating a lot of really humorous and interesting situations with Twilight having a male companion (especially a possible love interest). Can't you see Twilight adorkably freaking out over a date? Can't you see Rarity trying to teach her the classy way to court a stallion? Can't you see Applejack suggesting alternative less refined etiquette for their dates and relationship? Can't you see Rainbow suggesting she throw aside all etiquette? It'd be freakn' amusing as hell! Plus, c'mon. Lauren reallllly wanted more male characters in the show from the start, I'll take what I can get.

  • erowa - 11 years ago

i really really hope hasbro doesn't do this to us
i just want equestria girls to be some alternate universe that never happened
    please let us forget hasbro ;_;

  • Noel - 11 years ago

If he appeared in an episode as a side character every once in a while when it made sense I might be able to live with that. As a main character with the screentime of a CMC though, that wouldn't be good.

  • RedSquirrel456 - 11 years ago

This show should never, ever get any kind of shipping in it. Flash Sentry was not a good character in EQG, he was literally just "the guy" that Twilight needed to meet since it was a high school setting.

Such a thing as bringing in a love interest - especially one as sudden and undeveloped as Flash Sentry - would simply destroy the dynamics and every episode with him in it would feel forced. The cast is crowded enough as it is!

Besides, we already got confirmed he's not in season 4, and I doubt he'll be in any subsequent ones either.

  • mrrandomlulz - 11 years ago

Where's the "fuck this shit" option?

  • PonyWatcher101 - 11 years ago

Flashlight shipping...that's a bit too close to another word....

  • HD - 11 years ago

    I ONLY SWIM FREE

  • Safireix - 11 years ago

Technically speaking, didn't they already meet?

I have no problem with him coming back either way, or not doing so either.

Not as a main character, perhaps, but maybe as one of Twilight's guards, who she develops a friendship with. I think friendship is a better way to go with it than romance since that's what the show is originally based on (friendship is magic, not love is magic), and it's always good to show that boys and girls can have a relationship without having to... have a relationship. So to speak. But if they did bring him in as romance, I'd be okay with that too. If they played it right. Such a thing does have the potential to ruin the show's dynamic and/or be too heavy for the original target audience.

  • Page Weaver - 11 years ago

If they did bring him back, let them just be friends because I think it would be good to teach kids that a guy and a girl can have a great relationship together without having it be romantic. Our heteronormative society likes to assume that if two members of the opposite sex interact, they should automatically hook up, but if we want to be socially progressive, we have to get rid of the "friendzone" stigma and show girls that, when it comes to boys, they shouldn't feel obligated to have/be a love interest.

  • JamesPond - 11 years ago

(whispers) I actually thought Flash was a pretty cool guy and have no problem with shipping him and Twi.

I mean, sure, he didn't get a lot of development, but he was a fairly minor character in a 70-minute movie, so what were we all expecting? And besides, the scene at the end where he joins Twilight's "dance" pretty much made up for that, in my opinion. He just seemed to me to suddenly have a lot more character.

  • Nsidergp - 11 years ago

This is a weak poll. We have already been told that character was a one off and considering every other movie based off an ongoing TV series I believe them. Also why the hell would you want him in the show anyways. I like the mane6, I don't really care that often about side characters. Also, MLP is at its best when it is a slice of life show and this would make it less so.

  • Gabby Gums - 11 years ago

I wouldn't mind them becoming friends. My main issue though is how shallow of a character he is. His entire purpose in EG was to be the guy Twilight has a crush on...that's it. We learn almost nothing about the character or the reason Twilight likes him ("he's hot" is not a good enough reason on its own). He ended up making it feel more like a typical cliched "high school girl" movie, despite the rest of the movie actually being very enjoyable (aka it felt like FiM). I feel if he's introduced as a love interest in the main series, we'll just keep on seeing those little "crush" moments between the two, and it will get obnoxious fast. I also just don't see an actual continuous relationship between two characters working in a show like FiM...it'd become annoying after a while and take away from the rest of the show. Keeping him as just a friend works, as long as they give him some depth and don't shoehorn him into every episode just so Twilight becomes rosy-cheeked.

  • Blah Blah - 11 years ago

So.......basically over 70% of the fandom are not supportive of the Flashlight ship. Honestly, I'm perfectly happy with that. I don't really have anything against Flash Sentry, but I just don't want any of the mane 6 to be shipped with briefly introduced characters.

  • SpeedBoost - 11 years ago

why..... for the glory of sombra of course.

  • Bobby Dole - 11 years ago

I thought they already met - at the beginning and end of the movie even.

  • Rockpath5 - 11 years ago

He and Twilight can hook up only if they both go away, and we never see them again. Then maybe we can get an interesting character to replace her like Lyra.

  • DJ Dreamtheater - 11 years ago

You people know that the movie will have no affect on the TV series right? The writers of both the movie and show were asked if the movie's story will carry over onto the cartoon and they said "It will have no bearings on the cartoon." then they were asked if Flash Sentry will make an appearance in the show in Season 4 and they also said "They have no intentions on putting him in the show. He was just a one time character in the movie like Sunset Shimmer."

    He is NOT coming back.

  • HalflingPony - 11 years ago

So apparently the only possible outcome of these two interacting is either "they become friends" or "they fall madly in love with each other"? Come on! I want my "Yes and his Pony version turns out to be an even bigger jerk than Blueblood, Gilda and Chrysalis combined" option! ;)

  • Trixie - 11 years ago

Yes. I want to see the world burn.

  • moonlightavenger - 11 years ago

For someone who hates (disclaimer: humorous exaggeration...) EqG with such passion as I do, i wouldn't mind Flash Sentry showing up in the main show. As long as he is a pony and never was a human.

  • Elmo - 11 years ago

As long as they show the steamy sex scene, I'm okay with this. Naw, I kid I would rather have Twilight date some pony with similar interests as she does. Science and Magic!

  • Mares and Fillies - 11 years ago

Hell No. Keep off my WAIFU! XD

  • Redtutel - 11 years ago

Wow. This poll is a lot more evenly split then I thought it would be.

  • Liliana - 11 years ago

They've already met! Did you even watch the movie?

  • Crel - 11 years ago

Face it people, the last episode of the 4th season may be Twilight's Wedding (That or the possible options as well, Star Swirl the Bearded will finally come or, all the Mane 6 will actually get to be more than regular ponies (Turning like the permanent Guardians of the Elements of Harmony(And no, I'm not talking about turning them into Alicorns, but they'll do get inmortality, at least, that's what I think))), or get married along with Twilight with random ponies.

  • Koonitz - 11 years ago

Whoops. Double negative in that comment.

  • Koonitz - 11 years ago

Personally? No. They already have a completely and utterly blatantly identical romance in the show. If anyone doesn't think Twilight and Flash Sentry isn't an identical pairing as Cadance and Shining Armor, you're blind. In fact, the similarities in name between 'Flash Sentry/Shining Armor' is almost as close as 'Twilight Sparkle/Sunset Shimmer' (only not as clever considering the latter's role in the story).

It's stupid and completely unoriginal to do it again, and we don't need it.

  • madmanmoon - 11 years ago

What if they are enemies first and then they will hook up later?

  • Rainbow Dash - 11 years ago

Besides, why would anypony want her to get hooked up with a generic high school jock, villains ex-boyfriend, love interest? There are way better choices for Twilight.

  • Rainbow Dash - 11 years ago

This poll is rigged to split the NO votes in half! RIGGED I SAY!

  • whatever - 11 years ago

I would like it if Twilight and Flash Sentry were friends but that would mean them talking and taking up time in the show that could be used for something else. Essentially giving him much more importance and screen time than other ponies that we know and (may or may not) love. So as far as I'm concerned Flash Sentry is sentenced to Limbo for the rest of eternity.

  • Kaka Carrot Cake - 11 years ago

    Sure.

I'm up for some canonical straight shipping.

S'a hell of a lot more meaningful than the badly-written lesbian fanfictions that this fandom is plagued with. Sorry for pointing out the elephant in the room, but... yeah.

  • DanteEX - 11 years ago

I find it a little silly that Twilight Sparkle would date a pony who hasn't shown any interests that she has. All we know is that his human counterpart played in a band and that his pony counterpart is a castle guard in the Crystal Palace. Having a crush is fine, and all she did was dance with him, but I don't think they were meant to be considered perfect for one another. He was meant to be a cliche and he played his part. Whether he was a good character or not, it's hard to defend that he's a good match for Twilight Sparkle given little what we know and what she knows herself. So don't expect to see him any time soon.

  • Swashbucklist - 11 years ago

Flash Gor-- Sentry existed for one reason, and one reason only: to show that there is a potential for romantic involvement in the future. His job is done. If another stallion is every introduced for a similar reason, people will temporarily forget about Flash and overload the internet with the new guy, then start producing a fresh wave of Flashlight ships depicting them as estranged lovers. You guys are silly like that. :P And the saddest part of it is that this will all probably happen before any such thing is done with Spike and Moondancer.

  • tl - 11 years ago

I strongly disagree to those saying "oh Flash just needs to be fleshed out more" because he was literally designed to be nothing but a stereotype character. No complications to this he literally does nothing but play the role of his archetype and his motivations and personality have already been revealed to be as shallow as expected. He just has no significance of the story and his character is as boring and typical as it gets. This would definitely be the wrong way to go.

  • Stephen - 11 years ago

I want Flash to be fleshed out more. He has potential to be a great character. I DO agree that a romance could undermine his and Twilight's character though.

  • Frith - 11 years ago

They've already met, Twilight kept bumping into him, at the beginning and at the end of Season 3.5, Equestria Girls (the movie). From what I've read, that's the end of it.
