this isn't the first time a smell of this nature has been on campus, as a matter of fact i would be willing to suspect that it is an ongoing problem. i recall when they were renovating the Grille they had to call out septic tank specialist a number of times. if you walk past the bush on the side closes to the new Arts & education building you can sometimes still smell that putrid sewage smell.
