    That's a good question. My guess is that English colonists all around New England were substituting maize in their familiar hasty pudding recipes because that was what was available and that it didn't originate in a particular community. So New England pudding is another possible name.

    Was there a particular state or place where the Pudding originated? Could be called Newport Pudding for example.
