I have eaten horse meat ... in Europe ... it was delicious. Australia has a feral horse problem and we export hundreds of tonnes of horse meat a year, but hypocritically, we can't eat it here! It's very lean and tasty. We have feral camels and we eat them. I also eat kangaroo, which is even more sustainable.

I was raised by a Dutch family, and smoked horse meat was always a Sunday treat in our house growing up. It tastes great! A note to those who think it's a 'forbidden' meat in the Bible...it's no more forbidden than pork. If you're worried that eating horse will make God unhappy with you, then you shouldn't be eating shellfish, or bacon, or ham or any number of other animals either. In this day and age of thorough meat preparation, horse meat is a viable option as much as pork is. Try it. If you don't want to go for a whole steak, go to a Dutch deli and ask for a taste of smoked horse meat. I think you'll like it.

Yes. I lived in the UK during and after WW2. and at times ate horsemeat (Vienna steak!) and also- SHOCK!, HORROR!- Whale meat.
When it is the only meat you can get off ration, you eat it. Both of them tasted pretty good to me.

I also love horses, however, you can't ride or hitch them all. And even the ones that you do enjoy riding or driving eventually reach an age where it is impractical to do so. It is the same as any other farm animal, the end product is protein... so please don't knock a horse steak, burger, roast or stew. It's every bit as good as any beef steak or burger that you have ever had. With the number of people starving in this world, the last thing that we need is for someone to get hung up about anyone eating perfectly healthy horses. If you ever get a chance to eat horse meat, please try it... it is also great smoked and makes delicious sausages. Horsemeat is served in many high-class restaurants throughout North America as 'chaval'. We as well as many other families in the neighbourhood enjoy horsemeat at least once a week in one form or another.

Sorry Karen, the Bible was writen by bored men wanting to control the world without the skills to actually do it. Horsemeat is fine so long as the horse was farmed to a good standard of welfare and humanely slaughtered. Don't let some book writen by aforementioned bored men put you off a really good meat that is also quite healthy when compared to beef!

Horse does not meet the Biblical requirements for clean (allowable) meats. They must have a split hoof and chew the cud, as sheep, goats, deer and cattle.

I voted yes, but my caveat is only if they were killed humanely. That's a pretty big "if". I wouldn't want to see beautiful animals suffer more than they need to, but if it's a viable food source there are too many hungry people to rule it out completely.
