Fr. Despard has been treated with undue harshness in that he has been removed while the investigation is carried on. The usual procedure in Canon Law is to leave clerics as they are, where they are, until judgement has been reached, hence the hullaballoo about the removal of priests during an enquiry regarding the abuse of minors. Compare the case of the "Galloway Three". All remained in their parishes until the Signatura had passed judgment - just as well, Bishop Taylor was found to have acted uncanonically.
