I really am not liking this weather, we are rural, we have livestock, its hard on them and its hard on me. And, to top it all off I've got the flu and feel like a real ball of poo. But they have to be taken care of no matter how I feel weather that means having to break ice out of frozen troughs or not. Everybody has extra bedding ahead of time and extra hay thrown to them. Heat lamps where you can put them up safely and hope for power to power them. They all drink more water when its cold to stay hydrated, no different than any other animal. you hope and pray the pump doesn't freeze and the ice doesn't get to thick to remove. It's exhausting but its all worth it in the end. Ya just have to do it....Just wish I felt better

I remember back in 2000 reading that the east coast would be flooded by 2010 due to . . . global warming? Ah, prophets! Or is it profits? I usually don't mind cold weather, but this is a little much.

I am not looking forward to this at all. Hate the cold.

I'm in Nebraska, and it wasn't this cold all of last year!!!!!! I will be keeping wood in the fireplace, and my furnace at 73!!!!! I am so ready for spring, and thunderstorms!!!

Not looking forward to the frigid temps. Really worried for the homeless folks.

At least the teens might wear their jeans up over their rears for a week!
Merrilee - 12 years ago
I said dreading it, but if you had "I'm sick of it" that would have been my choice. We live in Michigans' Upper Peninsula near the Canadian border and have had -22 degrees this week and more frigid weather all week. And now this cold coming in the next few days. I wish winter wouldn't have started so soon (snow on the ground since mid Oct.) Wishful thinking, maybe spring will be early this year?! LOL

I will tolerate it well as I have wood heat ... I am hoping we see some snow with our frigid temps .... my concerns are for the homeless & the poor/elderly that don't have heat or enough clothing to keep them warm ... praying that there will be a lot of well checks going on during this time & ensuring that they are taken care of... if you have animals please bring them into your garage/shed somewhere where they are out of the cold...

I am from Alabama, and I don't even like seeing the 32 degree mark. Needless to say, this bitter cold is not going to be welcome. It is times like this that I am so thankful to have an inside job where it is warm, because even walking from the parking lot to the hospital where I work is going to be awful!
Julie Frey - 12 years ago
I am dreading the extreme cold!! I'm just praying that the furnace doesn't decide to not work because I'm sure our local utilities companies will be very busy!! Our Gov. has ordered all K-12 schools closed for Monday due to the extreme cold! You can't stand at the bus stop in that kind of cold!! This is crazy although it is not the first time. I'm thinking about SPRING!!!!!!

Not looking forward to the bitter wind chills, but living in the Yoop (UP of Michigan) for nearly 30 years has prepared me for the cold. Just hoping that the vehicles all start so I can make home from work Sunday night and back to work on Monday morning. Some schools in the area have already closed for Monday, even a ski resort is closing Sunday and Monday.

I certainly don't like being out in it, but I am tolerating it. However, the worst part about it is that many people cannot afford it, especially the poor and the old. I feel bad for the old who will suffer from it, not to mention the homeless! I am not looking forward to the bills associated with that kind of cold. My animals are inside and will be nice and warm...PEOPLE PLEASE BRING YOUR ANIMALS IN DURING THIS COLD BLAST! Bring some snow with it and I will feel better about it. The snow actually adds a blanket over the house as a bit of added insulation from the bitter cold!

I was raised in Ohio and Kansas, so raw winters were the norm and kind of exciting. But I've been in Georgia for over 20 years, so I've been "desensitized." I also have severe asthma, and cold air is a trigger. BUT - would love to look out my window at some snow!!!!!

I wish that Mesquite,Texas was getting some snow with this cold air. I would take the snow any day.We hardly get any good winter weather. Please, send some snow this way.

I'm trying not to complain for I have a home and heat. The homeless have neither and many don't have adequate clothing. I feel so sorry for them.

don't like the cold. I work for the telephone company and have to work outside in it. It doesn't help the fact that I have COPD. I'm in N.C. and we looking at 25 yr. record lows.

I can't stand the cold, but as I call it, freezing temperatures. Anything in the teens is freezing to me, not COLD! And I like the snow but can do without the freezing temps and blowing wind! HATE IT! Been here in Indiana 53 years and wish that I could move somewhere warm all year round. After all, it's not like you couldn't go somewhere where there is cold and snow if you desired it. NOT!

My name is Chris, I'm from the Great Lake area and it's cold enough, I cannot be out in this I have a hard time breathing when it's this cold, I advise that everyone that it's better off to stay inside and keep warm instead of being in the cold.
Did we humans cause this record cold temps?
