While I agree that adult franchise has its weak points in identifying the desrving individuals who can lead our commnity out of its myriad problems , what should be our alternative ? The earlier "Anjuman Committee" concept is also saddled with flaws that lends itself to manipulation.

If selection is the alternative to election then who is to select ?

One option could be for the current Board to make a one-time selection of seven Trustees, each with an impeccable record of leadership and leave all subsequent vacancies to be filled by consensus amongst the Trustees themselves.

An excellent idea, but difficult if not impossible, to enforce.

Election is a process of selection through adult franchise. The question is who is should select.....and the obvious answer is that it is the community which should select.....And how should it select.....obviously through elections. THE NEED OF THE HOUR IS TO HAVE A CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE ELECTIONS AND A FAIR AND TRANSPARENT PROCEDURE WHICH WILL LEAVE NO SCOPE FOR MANIPULATION. This ought to automatically take of the remaining problems.

HISTORICAL EVIDENCE IS PROOF ENOUGH TO HAVE A SELECTIVE BOARD.
