Even if the government says they're going to stop mass data collection, how do we know that they indeed have stopped? What happens if the governments says that they stopped and a couple years from now another whistle blower says that the government is still collecting meta data? What do we do then? How do we trust a government that has already violated our privacy and broken our trust? How do we confirm that our government is doing what it says it's doing? What ever the case may be, it is not just critical that our government re-built its trust with our foreign allies, but it is crucial that the US government re-built its trust with its people.
