Cheap alcoholic drinks promotions encourage people to over indulge in strong drinks and in the main people who do not have surplus of cash for everyday spending and that can be young people/students. Its prob natural for those students to be tempted to go with the flow and while the booze is free/cheap get in as much as possible and do not think of the circumstances. We have all seen the footage of the mean streets afterwords and its embarassing, worrying, very scary and apalling and I am not saying everyone who goes to these promotions end up puking on streets or walking into traffic but a lot do. We do not see the damage to the internal organs, the patrons the following morning who have to be in pain, the queues as a result in A&E's around the country, the problems for police and hospital staff and yes some ensuing suicides. The promotions have consquences beyond the pubs or clubs or hotels.....also what about the long term damage to liver or general health of these patrons. The drinks industry do not care or think of the ramifications they just want to promote their new drinks and use the good looking guy or gals who promote these drinks to give people a night they think was brilliant if they can remember half of it but that in the mind of the promotor equates to a great alcoholic drink and the tills will ring. Yes these promotions need to be banned in their current format....have them but definitely limit the number of drinks each person is allowed and there has to be a way to do that. Alcohol business has to take responsibility when it comes to the use in promotions of their product which is an addictive drug. Head shops were tightened up and prob need more done so why not do same with these promotions. Make changes in any industry that hurt and damages people and puts lives at risk and we know lives have been lost in the melee of too much alcohol. Our youth are drinking too much and on the shots where as years ago it was the pints which did not alter the brain as much it seemed. A lot of students who may work abroad seem to be still of the same mindset and again we see the damage and loss of life from fights relating to excssive drinking in some of thse countries. Someone has to take responsibility for these people returning to their families in body bags or coffins. Good example and sense had to come from the top down and that starts with government and business coupled with advice from professions e.g medical and mental health experts and rules arrived at that will keep people safe when being offered drinks.
