I'm actually somewhere between these two points of view.
I did my first circuit races last year (all three of them!), and thought I would probably be alright, but worried that I might crash and break my elbow...again! I don't come off that often (apart from CX racing, but that doesn't really hurt..at the time) but when I do, I tend to break an elbow.
