I think this system could work with any content, but one very interesting would be the Armored Core (video game) franchise. The mechs would be highly customizable like the game. Head, torso, arms, legs, generators, FCs, radiators, weapons, etc..
Airships. Flight path would be awesome for zeppelin battles. If we are willing to accept sufficient complexity, we would outfit each airship with different weapons in each broadside, as well as chasers. If not, a simple "primary attack" in each broadside would work just fine.
