Do you think Harry Connick, Jr. is too hard on the contestants?

Harry is on point with his criticism, EXCEPT, I think this is one of the most mediocre groups that Idol has seen in quite a while.

Harry is a true professional. He is trying to help them get better and maybe win. You can tell it's
'hurtful' when they are 'pitchy' and most of the time, most of them are. Also, they all need vocal
instruction on how to breath, have correct diction and say their words so you can understand them.
There are other various problems with all of these contestants and Harry has a pained look on his
face as I do at home listening. I am a musician of many piano and voice lessons. Very few people
have perfect pitch but there are some. I would imagine that Harry is one of those. Give him some
space to be a good judge and not 'sugar coat' performances. Randy, do the right kind of mentoring
and let the judges do their job. WE have seen your face for these many years - now take a back
seat when the kids are practicing and stop fomenting trouble....your jealous side is showing.

If those kids can't take a bit of criticism they better find a new career goal! They need constructive criticism to get better, not constant praise. The judges are doing a pretty good job. JLO though wants to be liked.

People listening at home (or me anyway) can hear the majority of the mistakes (not in tune, voice breaks, etc.) I think being there makes it more difficult to catch. I totally agree with Harry's honest critique of the performers. He is not a Simon Cowell who was cruel and hurtful in his comments.

I think this years talent is great, but there are some of them that just don't seem to have the charisma and interaction with the audience needed to show they can be the next American Idol. I give them all so much credit for reaching for their dreams but they really need to gain more confidence in themselves and get out there and perform. The American Idol is the whole package, not just an exceptional voice.

Jennifer, Keith and Harry are wonderful judges and show a lot of compassion for the performers. I think this selection of judges is the best we have had yet!

Harry is consistent with his critiques.
He's knowledgable and not afraid of ruffling feathers.

Harry hit it right on the head: he's a judge. JaLo is a big sissy; she has never provided critique that is helpful to a contestant. At least Keith offers good critique. If a contestant can't take constructive critique (which is exactly what Harry is providing), then they would never make it as an artist. Grow up, America! Quit being so dang politically correct!
