How can anyone not consider Trevon Bluiett. Trevon has WON 3 STATE titles -- this one without Yogi. Averaged over 28 points in each of those State Finals appearances . His FRESHMAN year he was top scorer at the State Finals and when Yogi was being guarded like crazy and Trevon took over the last quarter to give PT a come from behind win. Trevon will end up in the TOP 5 of all HS scoring in Indiana History, averages over 35 points a game (even against larger schools) and 12 rebounds. He played against Lyles and I believe they had similar numbers. During the season PT took Tech to overtime. Park Tudor won the Marion County tournament and last I checked they play 3A and 4A teams to get there. So I call bs on saying it's all about the size of the school and who they play since he still puts up those numbers against them. If you watch him you will see that he can score from anywhere and also dishes the ball of to seemingly make plays happen out of no where. He is humble and always kind too :)

My problem with Lyles is this, I have yet to see him play anyone near his size, so maybe I am wrong. But he has a guy a foot or more guarding him and he is shooting jumpers, the kid is 7 foot and needs to be in the paint as a high schooler. I don't blame this on him at all, he is misused by coach Delaney.

Caleb, they actually played a game this season against each other. It was a total mismatch. Lyles dominated the game. I had people come back to me that were IU fans saying wow...we thought Blackmon was a great player, he looked like a Division II kid tonight, there is no way he should win Mr. Basketball. Lyles has played the toughest schedule in the state, playing national powers, the best competition in the state and has proven to be the best player. He deserves the award. We'll see what happens....if you are right, in there being no bias Lyles will win. As for Yogi vs Harris....it's a competition thing....even though Yogi was a IU commit, they couldn't get past him being at a smaller school, same is true with Blueitt, he doesn't get as much consideration as he should because of school size. If this award is state's best player, Lyles wins hands down.

I am here to call BS on all the "IU bias" crap. Yogi Ferrell....winner of 3 state championships. Gary Harris......winner of no state championships. We all know where those kids to go college and we all know how that voting ended. It's not about IU and it's not about results and it's not about career. It's about stats your senior year. That's all it's about.

Trey Lyles is the best player in the state. He has played the best competition and toughest schedule of all the candidates.Tech played more nationally ranked teams than Marion and of course Park Tudor.Trey lead a very talented Tech Titan team in scoring, rebound blocked shots and assist. Of course the media and heavily favored IU fans want Blackmon Jr. to win it.Trey makes everyone on his team better.Roncali coach said it best when Trey gets double and triple teamed he finds the others players.Hence his 3.6 average asst.

Trey Lyles deserves to be Mr. Basketball 2014 because of his basketball skills, his TEAM attitude AND his GPA. These are student athletes and the whole student should be taken into account, not just what is accomplished on the court.

Won't go to Lyles, he's going to KY. Blackmon because he's going to I.U. which is a big mistake.

bob - 11 years ago
No he sat out the last 6 game of that year. The indiana bias is crazy . Blackmon only has 1 sectional championship. Come on now just one.

Hey Bob, you do realize that Blackmon is right behind him in all time scoring in the state of indiana and the kid sat out nearly an entire year of basketball..

Bluiett Should be Mr Basketball hes averaging 35 points and 12 rebounds and hes gonna finish #4 in the states all-time scoring record. and dont say that he plays in class 2a basketball because James blackmon played 3 years in class 2a basketball.

How can a person be Mr. Basketball whose team cannot even get out of the Sectional. Theo object of the award is to also make your teammates better . Plus, Marion got drilled by Tech in a head to head matchup. This is the result of the media slant to Blackmon Jr. for staying in state for college. Lyles and Bluitt should be co-Mr. Basketball winners, case closed. or set a precedent and give the award to all three, They are that good.

This poll is so biased its unbelievable. Did anyone bother to watch the Tech vs Marion game? Lyles was dominant and Blackmon looked like a Division II kid. Difference, one is an IPS kid going to Kentucky, the other is at a traditional power and going to IU. Had their college choices been opposite so would this poll.
Mr Basketball should go to the state's best player. The best player in the state of Indiana is Trey Lyles. If the voters for this award give it to anyone else, their right to vote should be revoked. If the Indianapolis Star wants this award to mean anything or it to have any credibility, Trey Lyles is Mr. Basketball.

The IU bias is in full effect with this poll.
