Should hitters who purposely get hit by pitches be ejected?
Yes. If a hitter rolls the front part of his body into the strike zone and gets hit, the home plate umpire should eject him for cheating just like a pitcher is ejected for using a foreign substance.
No. This gives hitters an edge against pitchers by taking the inside part of the strike zone away from the pitcher. It is great strategy by the hitter.
If hitters utilize this technique, they should never be awarded first base. But they shouldn't be ejected either.
Ethically, it is wrong to purposely get hit by pitches. Coaches who teach this strategy could face a huge lawsuit if one of their hitters is seriously hurt.
