The screenplay was interesting, and I think particularly the Flagg scenes were well done. But generally it departed in major ways from the book - I feel like the actual mini-series that was made stayed closer to the book that the screenplay did. And there were obvious "gratuitous sex inclusions," inserted in the name of it being a movie. I enjoy such scenes as much as anyone, but still regard sticking them in as something of a cheap shot.
Mostly, though, the screenplay just moved way, WAY too FAST. It didn't really do proper justice to the depth of the story.
