What level of controversy was the Sanchez-Pearson decision?

The credibility of the UFC is on the line here. Either stick up for Pearson who was blatantly robbed by a hometown bias judge or draw a line in the sand Dana and say you think Sanchez won. The latter loses you and the UFC fans and subscribersm

    This is ridiculous.
Sanchez obv lost. His wild fighting style might've looked agressive, but he sure did not connect most of the times.
I doubt the judges have MMA experience. Rogan said some judges can not even recognize specific techniques such as the kimura, and that some or a lot have flown over from judging of boxing matches.

The UFC being the top of the MMA game deserve the best judges.

as an aussie, the poms are 'the old enemy' [not biassed for pearson] plus my son
and i both followed sanchez's career and were looking for a sanchez win..
iwe have all pride and ufc evensts etc.. i have dan grade okinawa gojuryu
my son has similar plus bjj.. typically we know who has won and who has
'won' based on the scoring system..

this is not tho, a matter of opinion.. there is no doubt whatsoever that the judge
who gave pearson 30-27 gave a rational, realistic, valid and appropriate score..

there is no doubt whatsoever that the other judge giving the revers total fight score
to sanchez cannot be explained in terms of genuine appraisal of the actual event..

the fact that, it should, never be left in the hands of judges, is not the point here!
nor does that fact change or in any way excuse this travesty of honest scoring..

this is one of the worste wrong decisions in ufc [and pride etc] history...
the only way of explaining it is that it was set up to generate interest in
the coming rematch.. if thats the case then we have been ripped off
both ways.. decisionmakers must now take serious effective action
to ensure that this cancer in ufc scoring is cut out as highest priority..

someone has made a lot of money from this bad and wrong decision..
corruption in sport is a demonstrated reality.. here it is again..

Ross pearson won that fight they need to get rid of these retarded judges and bring in ex fights to judge the fights

Ross easily won the fight and like many, I was shocked about the decision. I also saw Diego get rocked a few times in the fight on different occasions. What I'm sad about is the money list to Ross and his camp along with the mental aspect forum such a decision. It appears Diego's window has past and he should transition to coaching or another company, but this artificial win will continue his UFC career, for at least one more fight. Don't get me wrong, he is entertaining, but his days of being a contender are over, where Ross has a future.

To death monkey : the UFC has zero control of the judges. The only communication between them is through the media... and thats only if both parties are paying attention to it. The ufc would love for the sporting authorities to always ensure that the judges they employ make the right call every time. Humans get things wrong its a fact of life.

With the time and energy put into camps, decisions like this are devastating for the fighter. UFC must clean up the judging. To say "don't leave it in the hands of the judges" is easier said than done.

    Secure the win* sorry

  • David - 10 years ago

I agree with you Matt, being that Sanchez had to be the favorite for the fight, to secure the sun Pearson "had to" take him out. Just as in a title fight, to win you must literally beat the champ, but in NO way was this even a close fight. Pearson rocked him multiple times when Sanchez barely even got a great shot in on him.

I thought Brandon Vera vs Randy Coture was worse

There is no EXACT way to do this judging thing. They get some guideline criteria and the rest is a matter of observation and opinion. This is why EVERY FIGHTER KNOWS you gotta go for the finish, ALWAYS.
