I am in fact waiting the announcements to be made by Apple in September.
If they announce a new MacBook Air with 12 inch but slimmer & lighter, it could replace both my iPad Mimi and my old MacBook Air. And an iPhone 6 or even 5s.

I was hoping apple would eventually come out with a larger iPhone like the android products so I could top carrying both products (mini and iPhone). carrying 2 products in my purse is too heavy and cumbersome. I will just buy the 1 product and forgo the mini.

I've just switched my 5s with galaxy s5. I like many of the features and hardware upgrades. The thing I dont like are the apps made for android. The ios versions are much much better. Softwarewise android is still behind ios, but offers some features that ios will never will. However I consider of switching to an iphone once again when the 6 comes out. My wish is for a 4.7-5" display, not larger. 5.5 is too freakin big.

I, like the writer in the article, am a fan of big screens. I currently have an iPhone 5, an iPad Air, and a 15-inch MacBook Pro from late 2009. I see my future iDevice upgrade path like this: iPhone 6 with 5.5 inch display; keep the iPad Air; and eventually, get a replacement MacBook Pro Retina 15 incher. (FYI, I know I'm am a couple of generations behind, but I have the 3.06 MHz Core Duo, it still works well and faster than the Windows laptop I use for work, and will support Yosemite. I probably won't upgrade until it dies or Apple makes a change in the form factor [and look] of the laptop.)
I think it boils down to functionality. Some people, depending on their specific needs, will substitute a 5.5 inch iPhone for an iPad mini or even an iPad Air. I will not. I love the iPad Mini, but I don't think I could get used to reading newspapers, magazines articles or even some websites on the smaller display. And I wouldn't read them on a 5.5-inch iPhone either. I find the iPad Air is still plenty portable. Maybe because I'm a guy (and a big guy at that), I gravitate to the larger versions of Apple's products. I even still own an iPod Classic (I traded in my smaller iPod Nano). BIGGER IS BETTER.

I think there are smart people out there that will buy the iPhone 6 and stop buying iPads. But I think there are more people like me that would prefer having both iPhone 6 and iPad just because we love Apple products. Lol. There is still a huge difference between 5.5 and 9.7.
