  I had my rescue dog 6 months (she was 2 years old). She was getting tick preventive medication when she got diarhhea and vomiting. The vet said she was in kidney failure and her blood tests showed a raging antibody titer. I had seen the tick and pick it off. The first vet said dog's don't typically survive kidney failure. They would keep her hydrated but didn't expect her to live out week. Another vet, Jill Nogrady, had just returned from a conference on Lymes in dogs and wanted to try. My dog went on a huge concoction of drugs: antibiotics, vasodilators to help the kidneys filter out the grunge that was destroying the organ's filtration blood vessels, anti-ulcer medication to combat the pH changes that other drugs might produce, low protein food. I brought her every morning to the vet to be hooked up to i.v. fluids to help flush out the toxins and on weekends I did it myself. She survived and remained on medications for almost two years. She's 9 1/2 years old now and healthy but has remained on the low protein diet.. She never would have lived if Dr. Nogrady was not so up-to-date on the latest medical literature.
