Without question the finest young athlete in the U.S. He also was highly ranked in the World Junior Games. Kord won the Gatorade Athlete of the Year for Kansas both 2013 and 2014. His character is beyond reproach and has accomplished much in is young thrower endeavors. Kord is headed to WSU on a full scholarship for Track and Field and will become an integral member of the Shockers move to capture the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. He was the top recruit across the country for his discus accomplishments, Kord is my choice for the best high school athlete of the year because he is my oldest grandson. From the time he was a young guy, I have watched him grow into the man he is today. He would toss his bottle out of his bed as he finished it, and has continued to throw ever since. Kord and I would take the ole' white Dodge pick-up (we called it the doodie truck) to the donut store where we would order as many donuts as we wanted, along with chocolate milk. Sometimes this was on the way to a fishing lake where Kord and I would fish away the morning and then it was to MacDonald's for lunch then home for a nap. Yes, I know this young man extremely well and he is my one and only choice for the best high school athlete of the year. Not because Kord has been a "late bloomer" but because he has always been excellent in whatsoever things he set his mind to.
I watched him mature as he took on soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and track & field. With each new challenge Kord rose to a position of significance and leadership. The other young men listed along side Kord are apparently young men of reputable accomplishments. However, Kord is my choice because I KNOW him and who he is and what he has become. The best young high school athlete of the year.
