Sorry to those of you who actually take this idiotic mess seriously. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST REDICULOUS THING EVER!!!! Does anyone else see the problem with this whole thing? 75,000 people voted, and 17% of them voted for Tina Belcher, arguably the worst character on "Bob's Burgers". Also, how the hell, how the actual HELL, did Sheldon Cooper not make it onto this list?! Who the hell is in charge of this thing anyway? I wonder how they feel about humanity stooping to such a level as to vote a cartoon character as "best character on TV". Not even a good cartoon character at that! -end rant-

  • lara - 10 years ago

i just knew about the poll today.i would have voted for benedict's sherlock.many don't seem to agree with the result though

  • Dave - 10 years ago

    No Rumplestiltskin?

  • Ecarghat - 10 years ago

So after a brief reflection these are how I think the rankings should be forgive me for not doing percentages . Arya Stark, Boyd Crowder , Ichabod Crane , Ron Swanson , Allison Hendrix , Monday Lahiri , Illana Wexler , Mellie from Scandal that Phillip dude from the Americans and Kevin Spacey's character from house of cards ... On a slight popular culture agenda note Sophia Bursset is an amazing character I love her depth and gravitas ,but she is more so lauded for being transgendered as opposed to be an amazing actress . I'm done . Dropped my mike

  • Ecarghat - 10 years ago

Ludicrous ... This Bob''s Burger's chick over Arya Stark ?? I like Sherlock Holmes but over Allison on Orphan Black... Ron Swanson is way too low as well as Mindy Lahiri I cry mutiny !

  • The Wise Guy - 10 years ago

Really? Only 4% for Frank Underwood?

This guy teaches you the way politics are in the real world and yet you don't seem to estimate it.

I really hope that it's just that people have not watched House of Cards yet. Please do.

I can't be the only one who finds John Watson to be the most interesting character on "Sherlock," right? I mean, sure, Sherlock is the flashier one, the star, the genius. But John is the quiet support, the one who manages to keep the high functioning sociopath tied to the real world. It takes a singular character to be able to do that. Additionally, I would argue that Martin Freeman's acting is far more full of subtlety and nuance than the estimable Mr. Cumberbatch. Yes, Benedict Cumberbatch thrills the ladies and gents alike with his striking features, lovely baritone, and all the sparkling charisma that goes with being a terrific actor playing a terrific character in an altogether terrific program. But I could watch Martin Freeman's face all day long and never be bored by how much he can convey with no words at all. Martin Freeman's John Watson is the heart and soul of that lovely show.

  • Alexandra - 10 years ago

Seriously?! Our collective mental age in this country is slowly creeping toward infancy. With all of the compelling, intelligent and ADULT characters that were named in this poll, the majority of the adults that voted chose a cartoon character. Get a job, get laid and grow up. Please. The gene pool is begging!

  • Natalie - 10 years ago

Melissa McCarthy - so funny - great actress !
    And Mike also.

  • louigan - 10 years ago

    TINA FOR THE WIN, BITCHES.

  • David D - 10 years ago

THANK YOU for recognizing Sue Heck as one the best TV characters. It's high time she and actress Eden Sher got some recognition!! I love The Middle and Sue is the best character on it. I love watching Eden Sher week after week bring life to one of the funniest characters in a sitcom today. Eden Sher is long overdue for an Emmy.

  • Brian Boyle - 10 years ago

Your list was rather UNinteresting. Kyle on 'Hit the Floor" and Sophie on "Two Broke Girls" are the charatcers that I have to watch their scenes over and over again, because they are written so well and so enjoyable!

  • Joanne Brigden - 10 years ago

My personal pick wasn't on the list - Roger the alien in American Dad. Funniest character on TV now, hands down.

  • lashantia - 10 years ago

Dan Mintz...nope. that show is gutter trash mediocre .
Sherlock...is the best!! he trumps everyone else on the list.

  • Kaycei - 10 years ago

Where's Reddington? James Spader made that character intriguing and addicting from the start.

  • Jimmy - 10 years ago

Billy Bob Thornton's character from Fargo. He was pure evil personified.

  • April - 10 years ago

Raymond "Red" Redington as portrayed by James Spader on The Blacklist and Sheldon Cooper as portrayed by Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory have both been mentioned, but I agree that they should not have been left off of this list. Olivia Pope as portrayed by Kerry Washington on Scandal and Schmidt played by Max Greenfield on New Girl were also totally snubbed.

  • Yas - 10 years ago

    Hannibal Lecter!!

  • Stacy - 10 years ago

Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla, "Once Upon a Time"). You totally missed the deepest, most fleshed out, most heartbreaking , (and relatable) character on TV right now.
And the only bright shining point in a fairly crappy show.

  • Ann - 10 years ago

Hard to pick one. But the best character list should include Red Reddington from The Blacklist and Cyrus Beene from Scandal.

  • shiv - 10 years ago

Regina from Once Upon a Time would floor the rest :)
And at least put someone up from The Walking Dead. Seriously!

  • Mark - 10 years ago

This list made me so angry that for the first time I had to notify you of a horrible injustice!! I went through your list twice thinking surely you hadn't gotten it all wrong.
How in the hell could you leave off Donna from SUITS??? One of the best characters on TV EVER!!
You either want to be her, her BFF or date her. Brains, Looks and Wit? It is a crime Sarah Rafferty has never been nominated for a major award. I'm a guy and hell I would kill be as awesome as Donna.
I think award voters and your writing staff all need to be bitch-slapped for this. Even better if Donna herself got to do it!!

  • Jennifer weinbrecht - 10 years ago

Several of Tatiana Maslany's characters from Orphan Black should be here, not just Alison. What about Sarah? Cosima? And who could forget Helena?

  • Natasha - 10 years ago

    Jax teller** stupid autocorrect lol

  • Natasha - 10 years ago

In my opinion this list was severely lacking. Just to name a few.
Daryl Dixon-walking dead, Bo-lost girl, anyone from true blood, klaus-the originals, anyone from supernatural, Jacob teller-sons of anarchy, Sheldon cooper- Big Bang theory, Damon Salvatore-vampire diaries, Meredith grey-greys anatomy, Neal caffery-white collar, the Doctor-Doctor Who, Vanessa Ives-penny dreadful, kiera Cameron- continuum....I could go on I'm sure but the point is, this wasn't a very good top 25 there were very few characters I actually agreed with.

  • Courtney - 10 years ago

So sad Joe Carroll from The Following isn't on the list!

  • Nicole - 10 years ago

I do like Arya, but I think that Daenerys is definitely a better character from GOT. In terms of her character growth, she has arguably chaned as much if not more than Arya. Also, I know you didn't consider pilots, but as Penny Dreadful has a full season out I'm not sure if it was considered. I'm surprised no one from that show is on here, especially Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). Her performance is electrifying.

  • jeffree itrich - 10 years ago

You did a disservice to this list by omitting Robert Taylor who plays Walt Longmire on Longmire. Great character actor, great show!

  • Shantelle - 10 years ago

IDGAS VERA FARMIGA (NORMA BATES) DESERVES TO WIN. SHE IS SO TALENTED AND FULL OF CHARISMA, HER ACTING IS ACTUALLY SO LEGIT AND CONVINCING. LOVE HER ENDLESSLY.

    btw follow me baes

    @farmigafriends -insta

  • Laura - 10 years ago

James Spader as RED in "The Black List" and Johnny Lee Miller's SHERLOCK HOLMES in "ELEMENTARY"

  • Alan - 10 years ago

Hannibla Lecter! Daryl Dixon! Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham!

  • Shawna Lewis - 10 years ago

Seriously...no characters from Supernatural? Any one of them deserves to be listed. Dean, Sam, Bobby, Crowley, Castiel...take your pick, all AMAZING characters!

  • gina - 10 years ago

    sheldon cooper!!!!!!!

  • Kirsty - 10 years ago

I think two amazing chatacters have been overlooked: Damon Salvator, The Vampire Diaries & Darryl Dixon, The Walking Dead. I was seriously shocked that these weren't included.

  • Christine - 10 years ago

    Sarah Manning from "Black Orphan".

  • rommel - 10 years ago

    i love vera farmiga

  • Svenska - 10 years ago

Eyal Lavin from "Covert Affairs" (played by Oded Fehr) Absolutely!

  • lordelyn - 10 years ago

i like vera farmiga. and Vera Farmiga's nice. I loved him from his act to the bates motel movie .. all he has his superb act.i love her.. i love the role norma bates on bates motel!

  • Joyce - 10 years ago

After Outlander premieres Saturday, you will need to add Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) to your list!

  • Jessica Williams - 10 years ago

Seriously...I said EXACTLY what everyone else said about The Walking Dead...so many great characters to choose from, but NONE were a choice, and YES the fact that fans would march on Hollywood and take out the writers if Daryl Dixon died is truth. Definitely should have been one of the choices. Come on EW!!!!

  • Therese - 10 years ago

I love Arya and had to pick her, much of her story from the books missing that truly bring the awesome - But if Daryl Dixon had been on he would have won for me- or Michonne (only reason not to include any of them would be if the choice between them was too hard) But come on. Daryl Dies and We Riot!!!
Also missing, and deserving to be considered:
    Pam from True Blood
    Irisa from Defiance
    Castiel from Supernatural
Max Black from 2 Broke Girls

  • Jodysan - 10 years ago

Walt Longmire should have been on your list from "Longmire". A great show on A&E. Lots of great characters on that show!

  • Donna Marie - 10 years ago

I have to say that not mentioning Hannibal (Mads Mikkelson) or Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) from Hannibal was quite an oversight! And even tho it's a new show Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) or Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) certainly deserve an honorable mention for Penny Dreadful

  • ali wahi - 10 years ago

norma bates!!! she's one crazy, physco, best woman ! phenominal.

  • kelly singwal - 10 years ago

    NORMA BATES all the way!

  • sara - 10 years ago

    NORMA BATES all the way!

  • DIANA - 10 years ago

NORMA BATES SHOULD WIN! SHES THE BEST ON TV, LEGIT!

  • Jenna - 10 years ago

Not one character from Walking Dead? I call BS! Darryl has a following (which includes me) that is ready to riot if he gets killed off!

  • Linda - 10 years ago

    Dr. Daniel Pierce on Perception!

  • Vliff - 10 years ago

Uhm... Where's the doctor.....?????? DOCTOR WHO!!! Are you people crazy!? :P

  • Angela - 10 years ago

What?! NO ONE FROM THE WALKING DEAD?!! There's so many to choose from, but maybe that was the problem...too hard to pick just one? I think I'd go with Daryl!

  • paula - 10 years ago

I cant believe there is no one from Thw Walking Dead in this poll. Im for Norman Reedus or anyone from the walking dead. " Lizzie look at the flowers"

  • JK - 10 years ago

Silicon Valley: Jared/Donald >>> Bachman all day, every day

  • Maryann - 10 years ago

My favorite character on tv is a tie between Timothy Olyphant's Raylan Givens on Justified, and Robert Taylor's Longmire. Of course neither of them is on your list.

  • Chloeann - 10 years ago

    Sarah/Allison/Helena/Cosima/Rachel?????

  • Omer - 10 years ago

    Where fk is Hannibak Lecter????

  • velvet - 10 years ago

ok so i picked Arys Stark but the i seen Tina Belcher was a choice and i gotta say..... Louise Belcher is only 50,000xs better than Tina.

  • Peggy - 10 years ago

How could you leave out Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) from Castle??!!

  • Alex - 10 years ago

Where are Emily Thorne and Kate Beckett ? Two incredible female character.

  • klewis - 10 years ago

Sheldon Cooper-The Big Bang Theory is truly the best character on tv!

  • Sandi McLaren - 10 years ago

Sam Heughan as James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser (aka Jamie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe as Claire Beauchamp Randall in "Outlander" (Sony/STARZ production headed by Ron D. Moore). Author Diana Gabaldon gave her blessing on the casting and the fans have seen the sneak peek of Episode 1 and they are OVER THE MOON thrilled!!!

  • Sherry - 10 years ago

I love Boyd Crowder, but I had to vote for Sherlock Holmes. But where was Oliver Queen(Arrow)????!!!!! That show is fricking awesome!!!!!

  • Lisa Taylor - 10 years ago

I agree with the Crowley comment but for a main role it would have to be Castiel for me! Sorry Jensen. ..you're still my favourite crush of all time! Also, Hannibal makes my skin crawl so i guess he's the best actor on today!

  • Debbie - 10 years ago

James Spader (the Blacklist) is the best.

  • Rick - 10 years ago

You forgot Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire

  • Kaci - 10 years ago

Sherlock is the best this season. The critics love it, the audience loves it. It has great writing, action and our favorite sleuth, Sherlock BBC.

  • Vanessa - 10 years ago

Paul Spector on The Fall - on Netflix. Creepy and fascinating. Jamie Dornan does an amazing job in this role!

  • Carlos - 10 years ago

I'm just glad Laverne Cox was on this list all the rest can lose for all I care #SophiaBurset

  • Drs - 10 years ago

As portrayed on TV Stephen Colbert is definitely a fictional character.

  • Chantelle - 10 years ago

Come on you gotta put Daryl Dixion on that list! If Daryl Dies We Riot!

  • medoner - 10 years ago

it was so hard to choose between alison hendrix and norma bates. i voted for alison but i still love norma.

  • Macala - 10 years ago

Where is the doctor? You can't have a poll without the doctor, the T.A.R.D.I.S., and his companion :D

  • Kelly - 10 years ago

You forgot Once Upon A Time! Regina or Rumple would have been ah-mazing additions to this list!

  • Kathy - 10 years ago

Sheldon played by the Emmy nominated Jim Parson from the Big Bang Theory.

  • Vashaune - 10 years ago

    Emily Thorne (Emily Vancamp)

  • Dwayne - 10 years ago

Oh and yeah, no Sheldon Cooper? :(

  • Dwayne - 10 years ago

I'm pretty disappointed that Stewie (Family Guy) is not on this list :( And I think Alex Vause is more deserving than Sophia Burset (Orange is the new black) but that's just me. But thanks for including at least one Modern Family character, especially Phil Dunphy!

  • adam - 10 years ago

    They haven't included 'Peter Dinklage'
Coz dey know den ds poll will b one-sided..nd unfair to other people in d list....

  • Kim Owen - 10 years ago

Johnny Lee Miller, Lucy Loo, Jim Parson????

  • Jeff Maehlman - 10 years ago

    Rick Grimes bitch!

  • Joe - 10 years ago

    Rick or Morty

  • Ainslee - 10 years ago

Where is Hannibal Lecter? The show named after him is the best on TV

  • Meredith - 10 years ago

    Stephen Colbert is not fictional...

Sarah Shahi's Shaw from Person of Interest would get my vote, but since she's not listed I'll go with Ron Swanson.

  • Jennifer - 10 years ago

Along with my previous comment of Dean Winchester and Ragnar Lothbrok, there is also Jax Teller (Sons of Anarchy) and Sheldon (Bing Bang Theory). These would definitely get more votes than many of those listed.

  • Brett - 10 years ago

Stephen Colbert is fictional? So much for the criteria.
And Arya from GoT? C'mon now, that's just silly.

  • Jennifer - 10 years ago

You definitely missed Dean Winchester (Supernatural) and Ragnar Lothbrok (Vikings)!

  • Lindsay - 10 years ago

I only clicked this link to vote for Daryl Dixon then to realize he didn't make the cut. The fact that fans would go crazy if he died makes him an obvious choice to be considered for best tv charachter

  • Drew - 10 years ago

Wow Phil did you read mine before you posted or are we kindred IASIP Bros. Posted nearly at same time.

  • Phil - 10 years ago

C'mon! Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito) from Always Sunny! DeVito completes the show and the fact that he embodies his character. The show, in general, deserves more respect and recognition.

  • Drew - 10 years ago

Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day, It's Always Sunny In Pilladelphia) You asshats!

  • duke - 10 years ago

Where's Nucky Thompson or anyone from Boardwalk Empire?

  • Nellie - 10 years ago

Schmidt from new girl should be on this list!

  • Greg - 10 years ago

Rodney from Legit is a straight-up MAC! I think he is the only one who can give Tina a run for her money.

  • Nelson Fox - 10 years ago

I am sorry Carol from Walking Dead was not listed - I would have voted for her in a heartbeat. She had an incredible storyline this season and watching her have to shoot the sociopathic little girl was shocking and riveting. She was robbed a best supporting actress nomination in my opinion. Melissa McBride is fantastic.

  • Susie - 10 years ago

How can Jax Teller (SOA) NOT be included here?!

  • cassi - 10 years ago

I think this would've been much better as a bracket instead of, pick one favorite from these 25 awesome characters.

  • LM - 10 years ago

    Daryl Dixon

  • Kim - 10 years ago

    Dean Winchester!

  • Kat - 10 years ago

Love Ichabod, Boyd and Diane, but surprised by the omissions on this list: Red (Blacklist), Vanessa (Penny Dreadful), Sherlock (Elementary), and I agree with the Crowley suggestion (Supernatural),

  • Chasity Williams - 10 years ago

Rick Grimes from "The Walking Dead". He may not make the smartest decisions but they always come from his strong moral core, which is the hardest thing keep in a lawless, dangerous world.
