Is it time to phase fighting out of hockey?

When I played Jr., we needed to take a couple of lessons at our local boxing gym and as a player I would have absolutely said fighting is part of the game...now as a parent having 2 young children and watching playoff hockey, international hockey.. I am firmly in the other camp... What does a hockey fight prove?
Yes, the NHL may keep it in but only for fear of losing revenue... The guys that fight as always the goons anyway.
What the NHL needs to do is to get way tougher (and consistent) with their suspensions.
As a parent, I am embarrassed to see a fight when my son is watching a game... I always say why...when the fight breaks out.

Another thing...when did it become expectation that if you throw a big hit...you have to fight?
In my day..you got hit like that..it was hey keep your head up! Now it's not the guy getting hits fault it's the hitters fault...it's ridiculous and dangerous, as guys will not worry about having their heads down because if they get hit, someone will fight the hitter for them
