I received a citation during last winters
ice storm. Waited to pay because of
controversy. Received a $25.00 "late
penalty" charge along with a threatening letter stating they were
turning it over to legal council for
collection!!!
I paid the $100.00!
The City of Arlington is the CROOK!!!!

The non-payment rates cited are about 30 and 36%. Since Texas law prohibits a per-ticket fee for camera use, this means the cameras are paid for on a monthly contract. It is unlikely any city is making money if so few tickets are paid, especially considering things such as employee costs for police to review tickets. This is one more reason why turning law enforcement into a for-profit scheme is a bad idea- it is not always for-profit.

twice I have gotten a ticket in the mail for turning right on red. I came to a complete stop before I turned because it was a very busy intersection. There was no sign posted that said no right turn on red, so I disputed both and both were ruled in my favor. On another occasion I received a ticket in the mail stating that the light had been red for .01 seconds when I ran the light..... Seriously!!? I think this is outrageous. They are wasting time and money with these red light cameras in my opinion. Everyone is looking for a come up smh
I have personally watched several times as the camera flashes while NO ONE HAS EVEN MOVED! Some fool will pay because he is afraid and doesn't remember whether he ran a light or not- and the cities are counting on that. A whole lot cheaper to just install a timer chip rather than the whole sensor system required to actually catch red light runners!

I have gotten 3 two for right on red and now I turn so slow I get honked at I am now a liability but I am not getting another ticket. My third one was a rainy night the light went yellow and I didn't feel it was safe to stop turned red before I got all the way through. That one bites!

Seems to me there are at least three issues:
Red Light cameras are simply a way to make money. There's no proof that accidents has diminished significantly where they are in operations, or I guess the article would have said so.
In many instances, people who get Red Light tickets are told, in writing, that they are guilty and pay up. They no longer has a Fifth Amendment right to be silent (self incrimination).
Also, in many instances, the driver is surprised at the rapid change to yellow. Slamming on the breaks also can cause an accident, via a rear-end collision.
