I an a veteran and prefer to spend the day alone with my thoughts watching the National cetemony on Tv with no distraction from crowds. I was quite upset when during the ceremony I get a telemarketers call. The answering machine pickef up and I heard the speel. I can tell you I fired off a complaint to the company askung them to consider a policy of no calls between 10 and noon on Remembrance Day.
I stronly agree that Christmas advert should be after Remembrance Day. A city in our area had Santa Claus parade on Sat then some communities had Remrmbrance Day celebrations on the Sun. I find it strange. Like a wedding and then a funeral the next morning

Xmas decorations before Remembrance Day? not a biggie as that is one of the things we can celebrate - as we choose - BECAUSE of our veterans. We would do more to honour our vets by making sure our living veterans and soldiers' needs are better-served by our government, and our past veterans and fallen soldiers are remembered ALL year, instead of only one day of 365.

I already put up our Christmas Tree after Halloween. I was Born and raised in the Philippines and when September 1st start you can hear Christmas Songs in the air. for me, I don't think there is a rule of when are you going to put up your Christmas Tree. Its all up to you if you feel like doing it early or not and I don't understand with this people whose having a problem about when is the right time to put up the Christmas Tree. this is a free country all of us has our own choice .

I used to love Christmas but now I hate it when Christmas sales etc start so early. It has become way too commercial and the pressure on parents with small children wanting all the advertised toys must be horrendous. all the hubbub before Christmas did not make me get presents etc any earlier. I try to stay away from the malls as much as possible and only shop small local shops. Furthermore, for those of us who are alone at Christmas it just makes it that much harder to get through the seemingly endless Christmas season.

Some displays are so elaborate that it takes more than a month to complete! If they don't start early, they won't be done by Christmas!

Retailers have a short window of opportunity to do this business; as long as the endless playing of carols waits til later, I'm fine with the retail season starting mid month. For myself, I prefer to save Christmas until after Remembrance Day.

(my husband says he's disappointed that the selection of Valentine cards is so thin at this time of year - go figure)

If people really feel strongly on this subject, instead of ranting at min wage retail employees, go to the source, write letters and make phone calls to store managers., send e mails to corporate CEOs. Too often customers take the easy way out and voice their dissatisfaction with employees, who have no say in this matteR. Make a change happen.

I think due respect for our veterans should definitely come before Xmas....as does the holiday. We get xmas crammed down our throats far too soon in the season & I also am tired of the whole celebration by Dec. 25th.....and I love the holidays but please wait until after Remembrance Day. No commercials either, there's still plenty of time to buy gifts after Nov.11th.

I am fine with store selling Christmas stuff before the 11th (they do need to make money), however I don't like seeing NOT for sale decorations (ex. Garlands and banners in the malls) go up before Remembrance Day. I think it over-shadows the importance of the day, especially for children who already have Christmas on the brain. I am grateful that the majority of the business hold off on decorations in my community. Actually Target tried putting up their decorations before Remembrance Day last year and got a huge public back-lash for it. The schools here also do a really good job of covering Remembrance Day and its importance.

As much as I love a good celebration, I think a somber remembrance is appropriate for the veterans.

After November 11th, I think that decorations should be available for sale for people who like to plan ahead.
But there's no need to decorate or play ONE single carol before December the 1st.

If you want to really think outside the box, Global should take the lead and not show Christmas commercials until the 12th. Who's to say that it's too early? As for me, I personally get fed up with having an almost two month lead up to Christmas.

They fought for the freedom to let us have Christmas along with all other freedoms. Honor them by wearing a poppy and attending a remembrance ceremony!

People have already started Christmas shopping after Halloween. The only thing I see signifying Remembrance day are the poppy pins. It is a sad reality that there aren't a whole load of decorations or memorabilia attributed to the war heroes. My uncle is a war veteran hero and always will be remembered on Remembrance Day whether there are Christmas themes in the stores. The decor doesn't harm or change the memory of my late uncle.

Life goes to friggin fast as it is, let us just enjoy each holiday as it comes, Not rush into the next one before the first one is even here. We do not have lifespans that long in the first place---Slow Down!!!!

Going into a large International store last year (2013) on July 2 and seeing all the Christmas decorations up was way over the top, although they did wait until AFTER Canada Day! Everyone in t-shirts and shorts and we had to listen to Christmas carols at a loud volume!

What were they going to do about the Civic holiday in August, Labor Day in Sept, Thanksgiving and Halloween in Oct and Remembrance Day?

Every veteran I know(or have talked to) have said that they've never even considered being offended by Christmas decorations in November! People need to stop complaining about silly things. I respect anyone who protects our country and others as well. I will spend my entire Remembrance Day thinking of ways to show it, but this and any other decision I make, is my own! I say "Merry Christmas", but I'm not offended by "Happy Holidays". I don't speak ill of "Happy Hannukah". Our society needs to grow up. All these rules and whining about stupid annoyances people have, are what's making society so hard to live in! It's Christmas decorations, not anti-war decorations. Thank you to all who protect us and fought to keep our freedom.

... and please don't start the Christmas music "loops" in the stores until December 1st!

Unfortunately, it is the public demand that drives the retail industry.
Costco had the decorations up in July and most big retailers start in September.
Christmas is the big holidays of the year and that is were most of the bottom line is made or not for most retailers big and small.
