You have given us an impossible task choosing between these places!
It's like being asked to choose which of your children is your favourite!
As with others, I had 10 out of the first 20 before looking further down the list

Gary Turner's Gay Parita Station in Missouri is our favorite icon on Route 66. We first met him before he built the wonderful retro station, and spent a couple of wonderful hours in his beautiful stone garage. Each time we return, we are blessed by our friendship with Gary who is truly an ambassador for Route 66!

This list is great. But very hard to pick just 10. We were on the Route in 2009 with 4 PT Cruisers what a great time. We want to plan another trip sometime soon. I retire in 2015 and maybe after that. Would even be fun to meet others on the road and do a little traveling together for a little while. So thanks for a great poll but still hard to pick 10 only.

Great poll. Hard to come up with only 10.

This POLL just screams: "MEMORIES, GOOD TIMES, TURN UP THE RADIO & SMILE!"
I grew up on Route 66 in Joplin, Mo. We had folks pull in to my Dad's carlot (High Dollar Joe at Burtrum Brothers Motor Company) in a rusty flivver roll'n on their rims and motor out in a fine, chrome-trimmed car with a tank full of ethyl. It was an exciting, terrific childhood with delightful characters who would stop in for business or be walking past trying to hitch-a-ride. My Dad would feed Hobos before they wandered-on-their-way. Everyone was very trusting then. The world seemed to spin at a slower pace - slow enough you could stop during a journey to see 'n learn and make a friend. ROUTE 66 really was 'America's Main Street' but it was also a 'Highway of Life' and because of it being the street where I loved, I know I was greatly blessed.
I am anxious to see the final results of your poll. Votes were cast for my favorites; Frankly, its' like choosing amongst children - I love them all equally!
'Thank You' for presenting this ROUTE 66 site and helping everyone revisit what has loooong made it so very interesting.

I have traveled Route 66 "3" times and plan number "4" in the near future. The list that you have is difficult at best to choose only 10. Everything listed it worthy of a Top 10 placement! The people you meet along the way are undeniably the best. Gary's place in Missouri near Halltown was probably the most memorable for me, my son and my "BFF". We stayed all afternoon with Gary and spoke of days gone by while sipping on a icy cold root beer. No cellphones ringing, time clocks to punch, or deadline schedules to meet. Was absolutely one of the best visits along the 2448 mile trip. "LOVED IT"!

Some that I sure wish would be added.
The Diamonds Restaurant - Villa Ridge, MO (Currently for sale)
The Red Cedar Inn - Pacific, MO (Closed)
The Mule Trading Post - Rolla, MO Remains open and love stopping every time we go by.
This are disappearing every year. Enjoy them while they are still here.

Elbow Inn in Devil's Elbow, MO is the best little historic bar that I've ever had the pleasure of entering. Nothing but friendly people and the owners are just great folks. The food is amazing, you gotta see it to believe it... Check them out!!!

Elbow Inn in Devil's Elbow ROCKS! My husband used to catch the school bus at the stop sign across the street from the "Bow". Great times, great friends. Don't just stop to "look"! Try the great food. You won't be disappointed!

A great list to choose from. I saw or stayed in all the ones I chose. I am sure many of the others are worthy contenders. Thanks for keeping 66 alive and well.
Seeing the list of highlight of Route 66 10 is not enough for me. I was not half way and I had already 10 good memories. There were a few point I did not see in 2013. They will be on my list in 2015.
Would be nice to see al gps coordinates of the list in one file. I will work it over to find the missing point with my database.
Of course I had the big Texan in my list. Skipped it in favour if the Grand Canyon Caverns. A must stop for me. And Roy’s I would choose too. But as said the 10 is for me not enough.
Great poll sure hard to pick only ten. Thanks for doing this.

WOW, this is tough! Just completed the Route last May and saw probably 70% of these places so was hard to pick just 10. Thanks for your dedication of Rt.66!

Was surprised so many places that are post Route 66 are listed. Figured the icons would be places that were actually part of the Route back when it was a real US Route vie the businesses and such that have popped up since.

Difficult but I've made it.
I've already built scale models of 4 of this 10 places.
Good idea Ron.

Thank you for an interesting poll. I really like the El Trovatore Motel in Kingman. Sam has done a wonderful job with the restoration. Also, please check out Automobile Alley and Bricktown in Oklahoma City. Huge amount of work there!
