What should be done now to address Alberta’s revenue shortfall?

I think there is no single solution. I would venture, first you need to restructure the flat tax rate to something more progressive with higher rates for high income earners.

Second, I would venture a small sales tax (2-3%).

Thirdly, a combination of roll bank in government spending and a possible carbon tax.

Kelsey, you are correct. Hank, you are not correct. Dont suggest Ideas that this government could grab more money from our pockets. We already pay enough.

How about another option D: A carbon tax program like BC's, but not revenue neutral. It works for BC, why not for Alberta? Surely we can afford 7 cents added on to a liter of gasoline, especially with the current big drop in crude oil prices.

Hospitals and school should be a priority not something that might need to be held off until there is more money or better oil prices, or until we're out of debt, how about choice D. Government should stop spending tax payers money for their own agendas, instead of spending it on improvements that better everyone. Or even E. All levels of government take a pay cut for things to 'balance out'
