Im gonna miss that store Red all over like me I always wear red everyday shirt, hat, shoes, or sweater wish I lived in a place where it has target I would have shop there like everyday I don't care about high prices just like foot locker, and sport check I buy expensive shoes not the price but the design of the shoes if I like it and cost 200$ I will still buy if it's cheap shoes I rarely do since cheap shoes don't last as long as expensive.

I won't miss much, as there wasn't much in the stores to miss! Prices were the same as others (Superstore, Walmart) but without goods on the shelf. So, I won't miss much, as there wasn't anything to miss.

I'll miss Target because they kept WalMart in check - I worked and WalMart during Target's entrance into Canada. All of the in-store standards - like cleanliness, stocking and even customer service - were pumped up. Prices were dropped - employees (managers) were sent to Targets near their WalMarts with 2-page spreadsheets of "staple" items to write down the price - if Target was lower the prices were changed immediately to a lower price... everything from food, to baby products to pharmacy items.

Now that Target isnt threatening Wal-Mart's bottom line i supposed they'll go back filthy stores, rotten produce and paying worker's their crappy wages ... Wal-Mart's employees slogan should be - Work More Make Less !

I will miss Target! It was clean, employees were knowledgeable and if you couldn't find one you just pressed the red button and someone was there to help you in 60 seconds. Clothes were nice but perhaps a little over-priced and their cashiers adapted to changes in customer line-ups. Now, compare that to our local Walmart - aka dump. Since they changed our store to a 'Super Store' the aisles are so narrow carts can barely pass each other, main aisles are cluttered with pallets everywhere - sometimes you have to go all the way down an aisle to find a break in the pallets in order to get to the other side. Employees - when you can find one - don't have a clue and don't want one either. They added a bunch of check outs but they are never staffed so it isn't unusual to find line ups 15-20 people long with cashiers that don't know what they are doing. Its a painful experience!!

It should have just been "Target, bringing US prices to Canada," but it never happened.

Bottom line: They brought the brand to Canada, but not the prices we were expecting. Besides being over-priced, target did not the same products we would expect to find in the US stores.

Additionally, it seemed like they were trying too hard to be "Canadian" which was their second biggest failure. I believe Canadians are much wiser when it comes to marketing and advertising. We simply saw right through it. Target might have well just put up big US flags in the stores that said "we want your money" beneath them because that's what it felt like.

Maybe if they just acted like a US brand and gave us prices to match, we would have appreciated that more.

    Will miss
    The best muffins
Great prices on house brand OTC
    Excellent coffee aisle
    Very friendly, helpful staff
    Good quality/keen prices on housewares
Flexible checkout responding fast to changes in customer flow
Prices generally well below drugstores and grocery stores in our neighbourhood

target was almost like going to the Bay, except the bay had options. it was expensive with items that were cheep in quality and cost nearly 4 times, in some cases, then that at a regular store. honestly i'm not going to miss Target, too expensive and I would rather shop at walmart then go to target. missed Zellars though at least i could get a good selection of the things i use on a regular bassis like yarn. could have done with out the groceries in store at target. If they came in trying to compete with walmart they would have done better because i can shop at Walmart and stay in my budget. Also they have a bigger selection of EVERYTHING. Sorry target ya kinda sucked prarie oysters. i think if they would have asked the general populus they would have gotten told we like good stuff cheep.

I think they meant to put "nothing" in the last box instead of "other"

The only thing I'll miss about Target is...NOTHING!! That's all that their shelves consistently held. You could have held bowling tournaments in their empty aisles!
Affordable Fashionable brands? I don't know, never saw any in stock. So I can't miss that.
Housewares & Home Decor? Again, never enough of anything in stock to judge this by. Tryed buying a set of towels with what you could find there - one facecloth, but no hand towels in the same color and an unravelling Bath sheet. Now try to get a second set in the same color - good luck with that LOL!
One stop shopping? - Nope, not if you stopped at Target first. Because then you had to go somewhere else to find what you wanted.
Starbucks? - Uh, no. not only the worst tasting burnt coffee on the planet but there is a Starbucks about every 20 feet in most cities. They are never more than a few mouthfuls of bad coffee away if you really need them!
Lack of lineups? - Well of course there were no lineups, when there isn't anything to buy, no one needs to line up.
Couldn't really even tell you if the prices were any good - any time I went in there the items I wanted to look at for price comparison to see if they were equivalent quality to items elsewhere were out of stock.
Buh-Bye Target. I can definitely say I won't miss you.

I am one of the thousands that will not miss Target.
They opened too many stores too fast and did not fully understand the Canadian market. It took Walmart a few years to get it but they finally did and have succeeded. I don't shop Walmart at all but they got it.
Would I like to see Zellers back, yes but doubt that will ever happen.
Poor selection if at all, poor quality, overpriced and staff not understanding the customer service side of their job.
The extremely bad logistics division for not getting the product to the stores.
I don't think I ever saw more than one flyer in the local paper. How are you to sell a product if you are not promoting it.
Went into my local Target and was amazed at the highprices. Could buy from Canadian stores at alot lower prices.
They didn't learn from their mistakes as the days went along. It was easier to stick their heads in the sand and hope that we as consumers would just buy their product because it was Target.
Guess that won't be happening for long.

I will miss the red balls....

I have absolutely no sympathy for Target or its marketing person and executives who should know their jobs better. They did not do their homework. They thought they would march into Canada and we would flock like sheep and buy the crap that was out on the racks. The shoes were horrible, the clothing was sub-standard, the groceries priced too high (especially toilet paper), etc. etc. I don't give a rat's a - - what the prices are in the States. I don't go down there anyway. I am a local shopper and compared Target's prices with other retailers in my small city and Target was not at all competitive. When they finally got around to putting a sales flyer in one of the local papers, there was nothing in it to entice me to make a special trip over there. To heck with them. I'm glad they are gone!

    Target is finally leaving

I'm not sure what all the negativity is about, but I'll miss Target. The biggest problem is it never delivered on American pricing here in Canada nor did it stock the items the US store had. Target was clean, organized and had decent stylish clothing that didn't break the bank. Had they opened a few stores initially and adjusted their operating strategy they could have expanded more easily. Instead, they tried to take advantage of a situation and it failed miserably. It's sad because the consumer loses in the end.

Target was just Zellers painted red. They basically took Zellers and changed nothing except the logo. What's the point of that? Zellers wasn't doing any better when they exited Canada but they took a failing business changed nothing, (except the colour) and expected Canadians not to notice???

I won't miss Target at all! I honestly didn't like anything about it. Ya the TV commercials were kind of cute but otherwise, not a damn thing! Empty shelves, high prices...no thanks. Sure they have no line ups because there is no customers! Walmart could use some more cashiers but at least there is customers there to make up those long line ups. I went to Target to buy a cheapie stroller and the cheapest they had (even after staff looked all over the store for me) was $70, Walmart has ones as low as $12-$15 and they have them all the time. The comment of us Canadians shopping with our wallets, well doesn't everyone? A flag isn't going to feed, clothe, shoe or entertain your family. It's not whether you are Canadian or American owned/based, it's if you have what people want for the price they want to pay. I know a lot of people don't like Walmart but I do and I prefer to shop there, they are a lot more competitive and I don't mind waiting a little while in a long line up. If they pay less staff they can pass those savings onto the shopper. The only thing I feel bad about Target leaving is the staff losing their jobs. Just my opinion, and being a proud Canadian, I am entitled to it!

I definitely don't miss Zellers....ours was dirty, messy, nothing was on the shelf where it should be and there was no staff. When it closed we never got a Target and the building is still empty today. We do however need some competition for WalMart.....I've heard Giant Tiger is interesting.

  • Karen - 9 years ago

I wont miss this retailer, hated that store as much as I hate wal-mart.

One thing I don't understand is why so many people want Zellars back, it was bout by an American company along with Hudson's Bay and other sister retailers. Zellars was not Canadian when it folded, it was American.

We need more Canadian big box retail stores, or if you are like me, I just buy everything on Amazon.ca

I won't miss a thing about the Canadian version of Target. The first time I went in, I went straight to the things I buy at Target in the USA, and walked right out after seeing poor selection and DOUBLE the price! I can see maybe 20% difference, but 100%? I will continue to shop at Target in the USA though...love it.
In response to Bob Slug's comments about the clean aisles, yes, that was probably the only nice thing. I have talked to managers and written head offices about why the hell they stock in the middle of the day so that customers have to dodge huge carts and pallets and employees who don't want to move out of the way for the customer. Not to mention the product isn't on the shelf when the store opens! What's up with that Walmart and London Drugs? Get with it!

  • AL - 9 years ago

Wont miss them at all. I miss the stores and people they killed off to barge their way into Canada. Bring back Zellers. Learn from your mistakes of letting them buy up Zellers govt of Canada. This is what happens when you let them kill off Canadian retailers

  • Bob Slug - 9 years ago

I will miss the CLEAN aisles. Used to have to dodge pallets in the stores full of stock in Zellers stores, and now its happening in Walmart.

  • Anonymous - 9 years ago

definitely will not be missed, products were way too over priced!

    I hope zellers come back

  • Tooly O'Toole - 9 years ago

Won't be missed in the slightest. Way too pricey when there is a Walmart across the street, and frankly the brand completely missed its 'Target' consumer.
