Believe me, drivers. Hourly pay with detention time is not the way to go. Most of the carriers will push you to do more in the time available, even to the point of falsifying your logs to "get their monies worth". I've worked for hourly pay over the road and you wouldn't believe the pressure brought to bear to do more miles and move more loads. $2000 a week paycheques were great, my wife enjoyed spending them, although she says it would have been nicer if I was awake when home to help spend them. Percentage of load with detention pay is the best choice here, but salaried positions have a sparkle to them, as long as there is a way to protect the carriers from lazy drivers.
