October 15, 2003, our house in New Paltz caught fire. We lost our 2 cats, 2 hamsters and a ferret, but our dog survived because he was outside on a run. No one was home at the time. The Red Cross came in and helped us a little that day. We stayed with family for a few days, and then moved into a trailer temporarily. Luckily we had insurance. I can not tell you how kind and generous people were to us! It really restored faith in humanity. My sons were small then, but the kindness of others really taught them (and myself) to be kind and to pay it forward when possible.

Yes it was on January 2nd, 2013 and my boyfriend and I lost everything but the clothes on our backs, we had no insurance (didn't realize how cheap renters insurance is) but friends gathered together and had a benefit for us and many people donated things to us, the red cross helped so much the night of the fire. Our cat survived!!!!! We didn't know about gofundme but that would have helped also. We took a loan at the bank to get us in a new apartment and now we are finally starting to heal. So big shout out to all who helped and who thought of us. Love ya all
