Is overturning calls on ice good for the NHL?

To date I have been unable to get an answer to this question. The penalty was a delayed call. Usually on a delayed call, the goaltender goes to the bench for a sixth attacker. What would have happened if the goaltender did so and Chicago inadvertently shot the puck into their own goal? Would the goal have counted?? Would the refs had met to discuss it?
In over 60 years of watching hockey I had never before or since seen a judgement call overturned. We were told this was something new. So why have we not seen it since? Are we to believe that since that day the refs have not made a single mistake on a penalty call?
