My opinion of Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones:

He seemed to do pretty good work with Scherzer and Verlander. Both took some big steps forward when Jones was promoted. No idea if he could develop young arms since they don't seem to keep those in Detroit. Overall, average, which considering there are only 30 of these positions to go around means he is way better at it than us. Tigers have problems, Jones probably isn't one of them.

He's been dealt a starting staff of future HOFers (Verlander, Scherzer, Price) and WAY ABOVE average (Sanchez, Fister) to ABOVE average (Porcello, Smiley) pitchers. The bullpen he's had to work with can best be described as a hot mess. So, I don't think you can give him any (or at least, not much) credit for the performance of the starters because some of that good coaching, if it existed, would have been expected to bleed over into the bullpen, and it clearly hasn't.
