I think doing armies like genestealer cult and Chaos legions are excellent ideas if well developed and competitive. I don't want to pay $50 for a paragraph of rules, some lame relics, and even next to useless warlord traits. Also Squats can stay gone as far as Im concerned, though if GW brought them back Im not forced to buy them, though they could have made something I actually cared about.
I'm loving the ideas. I mean, if you can't come up with new ideas, why not use the old ones that were awesome? I rather recently came back to the game with 7th and am loving it. To me this edition feels more like Rogue Trader than ever, with both the good and bad that entails. It's a huge sprawling ridiculous mess and goddamn if it isn't fun as hell. I do agree that the model prices and that fact that the STC for a fucking Bedazzler seems to have become all the rage around the galaxy are insanely dumb, but... There's always been ridiculous balance problems. There's always been poor Codex decisions. There have always been a large amount of malformed, smells like bong water, needs some goddamn Selson Blue and a life coach style gamers out there that make you want to look in the mirror and ask yourself why in the hell would I ever associate myself with these type of failed human beings. Still, at the end of the day, I'm having fun painting and modeling, and I'm having ridiculous fun playing the game against a wider variety of armies than ever. I think it does help locally though we play smaller games. We play lots of games at 500 to 1250 points, which I find a much more fun points value to play at than 1850. You can bring your fluffy themed armies at these levels and still be competitive with just about anything for the most part as long as you have a clue what you're doing.
BTW: I agree with you on the Harlequins. They are fucking terrible. The models aren't half as good looking as any Dark Eldar model and twice as expensive. It's unfortunate people seem to like them.
Love the show. Keep up the good work, but try having some fun with the game again would you?
If the old idea is finally updating Craftworld Jetbikes - with a model that has been in existence for years - then yes. Otherwise, I share your general feeling of 'meh'.
