er, that should have been withholdings...

Since I manage my deductions so that my return is around one paycheck, it's nothing to get excited about.
Letting the government squander your money interest free for the year is foolish, imo.

    What tax refund?

I just wish somebody would teach finance in high school. Perhaps so many people wouldn't be in debt right now. People need to learn about money. It's just too easy to get in debt these days, especially when our currency is being destroyed.

3.000 refund? Where are the good jobs out there?

  • Tom - 10 years ago

If you have debt saving is pointless unless your getting a better return then the interest rates on your debt. I don't get why people save at .10% and when they are paying 4.5% or more on your loans. Just a thought.....

Not really a "Buying Spree" but I plan to replace aging home appliances.

I already received my refund. I paid 3/4 of my credit card bill and then the rest ($400.00 that I had ear-marked for this purpose) went to airline tickets to visit my daughter in California.

To the person who asked the question about the difference in the polling results:

The polls are different because they were taken from different populations. The first poll was probably more random. On the other hand, the only people who take this poll are: 1) People on the internet 2)people who then click on financial and/or tax articles 3)People who then care or are willing enough to click on a poll.

tax refund paid off the last $1900 on my car loan, $1100 on credit card, $2800 on student loan, and $3000 on 401k loan.
debt free now but for the mortgage, finally!

mampdx, you realize the only reason you get a tax deduction for mortgage interest is because you are paying a bank interest. Are you going to not pay off your mortgage to keep the deduction? Most people don't itemize and at some point, you end up paying less interest each year. If you want to keep taking the itemized deduction, you can send the money you send to the bank to a charity and get the same deduction.

    What's a refund?

A lot of people are lying about this. I have been looking for a cheap car for my son recently and was told by several used car dealerships that cars in the under $5000 range don't stay on the lot for more than a couple of hours this time of year due to tax refunds being used to buy cars. One told me he had sold 50 in the last week and his lot held maybe 15 cars. There is a ton of shopping going on with EIC, just as there is every year.

    Refund? What refund?

  • grampatc - 10 years ago

Like most people living in Illinois my refund is going to pay PART of my Real Estate taxes.

  • mampdx - 10 years ago

Like Reza, my income tax refund goes straight into my property tax account -- which is why talk of eliminating the mortgage deduction (for first homes, at least) makes me nuts.

I MAKE SURE TO OWE THE IRS YEARLY! WHY WOULD YOU GIVE THEM AN INTEREST FREE LOAN YEARLY?

  • rgb - 10 years ago

Never get refund. Bank during year (use credit union pay deduct if necessary) and calculate "refund" jan1. VoilĂ  instant return.

I use mine tax refund to pay my other tax that is due on April 10 -- the property tax. What tax refund?

So how can your poll and this poll be so different? Just goes to show you when you, the more you poll the potential for different results you can get.

  • Mark - 10 years ago

I used mine to pay ahead on my 2015 self employment taxes.
