How much geography do you think cabdrivers should have to know about the area in which they're operating?
A lot.
They should know traffic patterns, side-streets, and the quickest way to get somewhere.
Just the basics.
They should know how to navigate to the city's popular landmarks, but not the obscure right-of-way in the its suburbs or outer boroughs.
Let the GPS take care of it.
They should focus on safety and security, and rely on GPS for navigation.
They shouldn't be tested at all.
It's unfair that Uber drivers don't face the same scrutiny for providing the same service.
