Who in their right mind dreamt this one up!
Enter a job you have not worked in, at a senior level. The Army have Sandhurst to select and recruit in this way, the Police do not. From experience, most come with no common sense, they would therefore be better placed as an MP ... if they excepted direct entrants, but they don't.
    Why is that again?

There are many good, hard working Officers who deserve to become Inspectors but are frequently overlooked for either internal political reasons or because they are sensible, knowledgeable and have a good working relationship with the Troops. Many that are promoted unfortunately are totally useless and spend most of their time crawling around the SMT and avoiding any actual work. Direct Entry Inspectors? Can I enter Parliament as an MP please without being elected? A stupid, illogical and dangerous idea, which no doubt this Government will tout as a success. At the first sign of a riot they will adopt the WW1 senior Officers attitude of hiding behind a desk.
