I've lived here all my life and remember when Main and Market Streets (indeed the whole city) were clean and people took care of the sidewalks in front of their business. We eat at Alex's on Sunday mornings. If you look up (east) on Main Street, all the public trash cans are overflowing and garbage is along the curbs. The City should schedule a couple of sanitation workers to start very early on Sunday morning and collect the trash from the night before. They could be given a day off during the week.

The Civic Center seems to be booking a lot more events, and we don't put on a pretty face for folks from outside.

The City of Poughkeepsie is a mess. I've lived here my whole life & I find every part of the city a terrible disgusting mess. I know the city is having financial problems but having a clean city is vital to tourism. I have an idea, how about the inmates at the jails, get them out there to clean up? I want to be proud of living in the city!

Some people just don't like to use trash cans. It's a cultural issue.

The garbage problem is everywhere. Please contact our County Executive (contact info below) to, hopefully, bring this to the forefront. Part of the problem is that people overfill their garbage cans and the waste companies don't enforce charging extra because they are afraid they will lose business to a competitor. In the Clinton Corners and surrounding areas, our garbage increased dramatically when the crossroads were closed on the Taconic increasing the side road traffic. The Town of Clinton is today, 4/18 having a roadside cleanup project which is very effective, but the county roads are the worst and its dangerous to be picking up garbage on those roads. A difficult issue that is hard to resolve and I believe it lands in the hands of our County government to run some sort of campaign. I've observed a game in Poughkeepsie where a driver stops his car, opens the door, and deposits upright a full bag of fast food wrappers and containers in the middle of an intersection,, then drives off. Apparently this is to see how big a mess other cars will make of it.

It is not just on the streets. In my area of the City, a lot of the yards are not well kept, either, Nor are the houses. It seems to be mind set of people nowadays. No pride in homes or yards. So very sad. Probably the biggest investment a person will make and they don't bother to do basic maintaintance of home and property.

Myers Corner Rd, across from Hannaford Parking lot (front of a house & the trees) is absolutely terrible. There should be a fine (enforced) for littering. Good way for the Town to pick up money for clean up.

There is a litter problem Everywhere. Since all snow has melted it has uncovered secret, dirty yet unwanted treasures. Best To use those who have been given community service at court to clean up the area.
