Suicide is a leading cause of death in the U.S., yet stigma remains that prevents people from talking about it. How closely has the epidemic touched you?

I have lost a family member or close friend to suicide.

I haven't lost anyone personally, but I know people who have lost someone close.

Neither I nor anyone I am close to has lost someone to suicide.

My 25 year old son commited suicide with hose and car exhaust. He had been on drugs since his
teenage years. I think he realized he could not stop his drug use , and felt that suicide would be
his way out.. He had failed at suicide a few other times. He left a short note saying he felt this was
the only way out. Sometimes, I feel that it was an heroic deed on his part, not wanting to trouble his
family and friends anymore.
I tend to agree with him many times-----since his problems of living life are over.
