Readers! What's your type?

At first I thought it was odd INTJ is the largest vote on the poll, but, it does make sense that INTJs (or those that think they are INTJ) are searching and landing on this site, and then voting. Why would there be lots of any other type? As INTJ, I want to know what this site has to say about INTJ and see if I agree that it sounds like me, because the personality tests aren't super accurate. It's the only answer I ever get from several different tests, but I still scrutinize it.

This site has information primarily about INTJs, so of course there would be many of us on this site, being interested about learning about ourselves, and all.

Some people do fake it. But all I have to say is that the first time I took a 'personality test', I got INTJ, without have a clue as to what any of the letters meant. I've looked at all of the 16 types and the only decently close types to somewhat describing me are ISTJ, ENTJ, and INTP, although the INTJ completely nails it.

Cognitive functions are mostly junk unless you're trying to type someone. An ENTJ can use Ne, an ISTJ can even use a lot of Ni.

Here's the thing: a lot of these types just do not hang out on MBTI websites because they have no interest in this stuff and prefer to do other things (e.g. an ESTP friend hates Internet in general). Introverts gravitate most likely easily to these places, and I've noticed INFJs and INTJs love the MBTI stuff a lot. I've never seen so many INFJs in a single location as the intuitive FB group I joined not too long ago. Yet they are "rare" out there, just not online.

I couldn't agree more with Melanie here. - INTJ who's surprised at the ignorance, who also realized she really shouldn't be cause after all, *sigh* there really are people who just misses a lot of the important things when they employ what they think is valid reasoning.

It's hilarious that everyone is saying how INTXs must not be so rare after all, based on this survey. Everyone leaving these comments are obviously not great thinkers. It's obvious that readers of an article about INTXs would be almost entirely INTXs. -INTJ who's tired of ignorance

I was about to say the same thing as Karlo. Those of us who are rarest and feel the most misunderstood are more likely to gravitate towards the sort of thing. For example, I'm an INFJ. Reading about my type has explained so much about my life, and learning about my friends/siblings and their types has helped me to understand them better! For example, my big sister is an INTJ, and I've always despaired at her stubbornness and what I used to perceive as heartlessness/lack of empathy. Reading about INTJs has helped me to be more understanding myself because now I know the reason for traits that clash with my own.

I'm not sure that someone who felt totally secure about their place in the world would feel the same need to learn about themselves and others.

Josh is correct. it always amuses me how INTJs, INFJs, INTPs, and INFPs are supposedly so rare and unique and yet everyone and their mom claims to be one online. those tests are terribly biased and on top of that, people are usually lazy and don't care to study the types- much less the functions, which are the true indicators.

and many people just want to seem special and superior by getting the "cooler" types, then stubbornly hang onto it for dear life as if a psychological test validates their entire identity. sure, there's going to be more introverts online, but if intuitives make up such a tiny percent of the population, no way should there be this many.

And we do have to take into account how psychological biases can recreate one's identity and the basic flaw of those tests out in the internet.

  • Karlo - 8 years ago

It's only natural that the top ones would be the INxx personalities because they'd be the ones most interested in this shxx.

  • Josh - 8 years ago

I think it's generally hilarious how INxx personalities top the list on frequency and ESxx personalities barely register in the reported rank here. May be some personality-related response bias in who's visiting such websites as this?
