Should police departments publish mug shots on Facebook of every person arrested for drunk driving?

An arrest is not a conviction. A DUI charge does not mean I was "driving under the influence". If the police or others want to deter crime, then publish convictions....not mere charges. Shaming someone before guilt is established is simply wrong!!

If the LEO's are looking for someone who has committed a crime, then yes, post away. The tips that are generated will eventually lead to the arrest of the suspect, which is a good thing. But, posting pictures & details of an arrest before they have been to court and proven guilty, regardless if it is an OUI or something else, is not appropriate. Prosecutors, I'm sure, frown on this action because it could jeopardize the outcome of a case, which may put a criminal back on the streets instead of in jail where they belong. How about a little common sense.

Once a person commits a crime, they should be exposed. There is always the possibility that it might make the person think twice before committing another crime. Also, when the police department posts pictures of a person being sought for committing a crime, it raises their chances of finding the perpetrator with the public's help.

Arrests are public information. Are we supposed to save the news so that only newspapers can make money from it?
Embarrassment, financial and other consequences are some of the more powerful factors that cause someone to seriously consider their behavior.
