Should '19 Kids & Counting' Be Cancelled Over Josh Duggar's Scandal?

I am not a hater of the Duggars, however, I do feel the show should be cancelled. The Duggars need time to get things straight in their life before trying to be an example to others. I never was a fan of the show because from the first episode I watched, I remember Jim Bob talking about how the children are only allowed a very small amount of time to have access to tv and even it is what they approve (while I am not disagreeing with this because I monitor what my child watches) what I don't agree with is how they are condemning something for their children that they are selling to others. Does that not in itself make one a hypocrite? If I am against cigarettes wholly and think they are bad for me and my family, why would I create my own brand to sell to everyone else? If I am truly who I say I am and against, I would not something to make other do it.

People really need to quit. This show does not need to go off the air. Yes Josh messed up when he was a teenager went thru counseling and the family dealt with it. There is alot os familues that go through stuff it's none of yalls business. So much drama. All i can say is josh n anna stay strong live ur life take care of them babies.vthe duggars are a loving family. God forgives u repented and thats all that had to happen. Let your family heal as a whole. Praying for all of you guys. Continue to be strong.

I don't think TLC should cancel the show.. Why this was ever revealed all these years later is terrible.. Yes what Josh did was wrong but it was 12 years ago.. I think calling him a rapist is going a little bit far.. I feel it is worse for the victims to be brought up all these years later when their young adults when it's already been dealt with.. If the victims can forgive him everyone else should too.. I personally love the show and want to see baby Isreal grow up and see Jessas little one when its born.. The whole family is not bad and to me having one kid out of 19 that swayed from the proper path for a time is damn good.. Just leave the Duggars alone like enough already.. Look nobodys perfect he very well might be a changed man I think he's learned from his mistakes this happened a very long time ago who are we to judge? Are u perfect?? I'm not

  • Taylor - 9 years ago

I think that this just proves even a devotional Christian family can make mistakes. As Michelle Duggar has said, they are in no way, shape, or form perfect. Josh's mistakes twelve years ago should be used as an example of these things and the show should not be taken off the air. The Duggars still have good family values, even though Josh made these mistakes. I really enjoy watching this show about the Duggars. And also, to everybody calling Josh a rapist and child molester, just remember that he was 14-15 and a child himself when these events occurred. It still doesn't make it right or justify his actions but children make mistakes. He has apologized to the victims, his family, and the public so just please leave the Duggar family alone. They've [Josh, Michelle and Jim Bob, and the five victims] been through enough with the revelations of the scandal.

I love this show. This show is one of the best seen On tlc. I learn a lot of things since I watched. I been Watching them since they first started. Don't cancel the show just take Josh off. I want to see what happens in the future with Jill and her husband and family and sister jessa and her husband and family. I look forward to having the show come back every time and seeing new episodes. Don't cancel it.

The show must go off the air. No one should support parents who failed to protect all of their children, especially their daughters, do they believe 4 girls are worth less then 1 sick boy? This is 2015, gender equality, ring a bell? There is something fundamentally wrong with these parents, in so many ways then one. They hide behind their religion, they are surrounding themselves with coaches, PR people, local politicians who will put pressure on the local police, news stations that support them and are working to restore their fake imagine and all of this is made possible because of the money they made on TLC and of course their sponsors. The Rich and famous always find a way to get out of legal scandals, yet it is proven again. Jim Bob is simply protecting his son and his imagine. Perhaps Michele, Anna are so far gone in their religious belief that they believe they must stand by their man at all cost. Again - 2015! Its too bad for those precious girls. I have often heard that there's off things that happen in large families and are often hidden as the family is ashamed, but to stand and do nothing is another thing all together. The girls were clearly told to not speak about these incidents and that I feel would have come from the so sweet and calm Michelle. Social Services need to pay them a visit, its their job to protect children from abuse and neglect, which both have occurred in that house hold. How could such a show continued to be aired after all of this?

  • What's the world coming to? - 9 years ago

Saying it's "normal childhood curiosity" is disgusting. Say that to the victims. Also, I can tell many of the commenters have never had personal experiences regarding this. Saying "this family is the perfect example of a perfect Christian family" is pretty ignorant considering its a show and they're being aired...This world is so crazy.

  • lurie - 9 years ago

I feel they should of never went on TV knowing there family had a dark secret. They should of new one day a magazine will find it. I feel bad for the children cause everyone knows who they are. God don't judge no one so before you talk about someone being gay look at your own family secrets.

  • Nan - 9 years ago

I love the Duggars. How much better off this world would be if we had more Christian families like the Duggars. Josh was a child when this happened. Also it IS normal childhood curiosity. If TLC cancels this show I will never watch that channel again.

  • Nan - 9 years ago

I love the Duggers! If more families had the morals of the Duggers when it comes to raising children this world would be so much better off. Josh was a child himself when this happened. At 14 this is normal child curiosity.

  • Lisa - 9 years ago

Another comment. I've learned that, as a parent, my children and I are individuals. I can, and do, teach them right from wrong. But, they still make mistakes and sin. The same holds true here. I believe that the Duggar parents have taught their children right from wrong and are every bit as wholesome as we see on TV. However, their son, Josh, sinned. The whole family should NOT be held accountable for the willful actions of one of its members.

  • Lisa - 9 years ago

Thankfully, Christianity is the religion of second chances. Our mistakes, sins, effect people; that's for sure. In this case, Josh may not be able to overcome these particular mistakes in the political arena. However, his real repentance is between him and his God. God may not take away Josh's consequences; however, theologically, his sins can definitely be forgiven. A good piece of knowledge for those who don't know the Lord as their personal. God forgives.

    people stopped...
mind your own business I have a lot of children.I didn't do it for fame I did it because I wanted a large family ok
if Anna wants to stand by her husband that's her business not yours not mine
can you guys understand he was only 14 he was a child himself..don't you people get it
he's an adult now he's the father...she did mistake .. wrong mistake.now if you would have been 18 19 that would have been another story but he was the child when she did this...he's going thru a lot right now don't you think that's embarrassing for him..his life is down the drain that is enough punishment already leave this people alone if you don't like you they show don't see it don't watch it.
and problem is solve..I love the show and I don't think the family has to pay for what he did and I also don't think they we should pay for something he did...get him out of the show and show the 18 kids...
or what you want to crucify him like you guys did Jesus...let God do the punishment
that's not your job I'm sure the most of you guys have skeletons in your closet..so go get your classes clean..and let other people clean their own closets. ok there's no reason for the whole entire family to get punish..Oh what are you guys jealous or what is the problem this happened many years ago what are you going to do about it what is going to change nothing not only hurting this man..but you hunting the children also have you guys thought about the rest of the children his children the mom children.do you guys thought about it how these people are feeling right now...think about it don't think about the guy what he did...think about the families hot embarrassing this is for them put a lid on it and clean your closets
    you all need to stop

  • gerry. lima - 9 years ago

you cannot call a child child molester.
I know what he did was wrong but he was only a child curious child.
I don't think the show should be stopped for what he did..I know that parents kept it quiet what you do the same thing if your child would have done something like that.I think this whole thing is stupid he's out of the picture the show must go on..that's what I think...millions of people love this show including myself...why punish the whole entire family...Christians do mistakes too the not perfect....this happened many years ago...
let it go...put the show back...and its not TLC false either..I love this people by the way can you give them my number 1951-570-2574

Someone in their comments brought up President Clinton & how he lied about having sex with the white house intern. Too funny considering I saw a recent picture of President Clinton -with guess who--the Duggars!! I could care less what consenting adults do sexually with each other .but the Duggars & too many like them, can't mind their own business .President Clinton got in trouble for lying- not for having sex. And there's no comparison - josh committed a crime because of the ages of the victims. He got away with it because of ma & pa Duggar lawyering up, & lo & behold - their home state Arkansas- had a ridiculous statute of limitations on his type of sex crime- 3 whole years. By the time he got caught it was too late & his family took advantage of that. That & lying. Pretty sad when some of the victims are your own daughters. As of now only josh knows if he's not going to re offend. Its obvious when all this was going on his parents were so obsessed with having more children so they could capatilize on using them for fame & fortune, they couldn't be bothered getting josh & his victims the type of help he really needed. There are plenty of people who pretend to be someone they're not. Our prisons are filled with them

  • feathers mom - 9 years ago

Of course anna duggar is going to support her husbands past crimes, but now shes lying!! I dont for a minute believe josh told her AND her parents about molesting & committing incest prior to them getting married. And if he did tell them how could she & especially her parents (Anna being another sexually repressed christian teenager ) how did they not question what treatment or help was sought for him?!? So an 18year old josh said "I went to work for a family friend for 3months away from home & said a bunch of words ( I mean prayers ) & I was cured". And Anna & her parents said " OK we believe you, that sounds like getting help to us". Sure Anna! I think the real truth is you were a homely teenager who couldn't & wouldn't pass up the chance to marry into the great Duggar dynasty! And look how it worked out! Who cares if you have to cover up the truth & lie. A small price to pay for being rich & famous & more importantly "A DUGGAR". And you also were finally able to get your teeth fixed!! One question did josh in his confession to you and your parents about his past crimes-- oops I mean " mistakes"-- did he tell you Jim Bob sent him to a family friend who WAS a state trooper for a "stern talking to"??? And then did he tell you and your parents that the state trooper was in prison for Child Pornography?? ( let me guess this ex state trooper-- Jim hutchens- is another god fearing christian?! ) i guess some crimes cant be " prayed" away! Just my opinion..

  • wyatt earp - 9 years ago

For all u bleeding hearts for the Duggars, save it for people who really deserve sympathy. Ttho I do feel sorry for the 19 clones ma & pa Duggar have unleashed upon the world. Brainwashed from birth. Yes now the family is rich & famous- but what a price to pay! No thanks. And for all the supporters of this hate filled family for anyone who doesn't view the world thru their close minded bigotry- its not so easy as "change the channel or just don't watch" . They are everywhere! Magazine covers, morning shows, books and on & on.! Now its the older children and there time in the spotlight. "Courting", getting married,& most important for them- having babies!! Oh boy! It worked for Jim Bob & Michelle Bob so we too can make having clones of ourselves BIG BUSINESS. Jim Bob & !Michelle Bobs motto - there's a sucker born every minute! Keep drinking the kool aid, viewers of these hypocrites. They're so busy on their anti homosexuality campaigns that they fail to take care of the crimes being committed in their home! And then to cover up & lie about it, & now minimize the seriousness of what Josh did and what they didnt do- I'm not surprised.just more in a long line of scam artists using religion to rake in the almighty dollars. They're only upset that the truth ( or as little of it as we' all ever know ) has come out ( no pun intended ) They're just a different version of the Kardasians. I wish they'd all go away. So much for " reality " TV...

  • rosie - 9 years ago

Jim Bob & Michelle Bob used these children as a way to become rich & famous. Josh got caught leaving his sisters room. And I guess Jim Bob thinks the Duggars are above the law. They never would have come forward with the truth- & are only upset that the truth(only josh & his victims really know how far this went) now the truth will cost them money. And how is josh going to work for a family friend doing construction counseling or therapy. And then Jim Bob sends him to get a "stern talking to" by another friend who is now in prison for child porn! The Duggars are hypocrites.. Attacking consenting adults sexuality while child molestation & incest are going on in their own home. Their children are clones ,not an original thought or idea in any of them.TLC knew about Josh yet still kept the truth hidden.what happened to "thou shall not lie"?? Oh & the older Duggar daughters writing a book on " growing up as a Duggar" will there be a chapter on incest? Pull the plug TLC.,

Josh shouldn't be brought back and I feel neither should the parents. They knew about it and he did not seek the right help. There is always that chance of it happening again and I fear for his kids and siblings. It is a sick illness that needs the proper treatment,it doesn't just go away in a few months. It's going to be a life time treatment. I love watching this show, but I think for now they should take it off. I think the family needs to take a break after all this coming out and seek the proper treatment. This would be a major blow out if it happen in my family, I would have so much hate towards my brother. But I would want him to seek treatment. Me personally, I wouldn't want to be seen because I would be embarrassed, but that's just my opinion . I feel that Gods the only judge here and that it's not my place to judge others. I really hope they all seek the proper treatment and counseling and be there for each other.

Let the show stay on. They should just not feature Josh & his family

  • Paula Gorski - 9 years ago

Isn't it interesting how quickly the "pitchfork brigade" awakens to judgment upon discovering "a chink in the armor" of one viewed as a religious personality? There is no justification for sin, which by the way, when it comes to confession and repentance is Heavenly Father's purview not ours.
Why cancel a show that delivers positive messages about the importance of family, a strong work ethic, kindness, service, selflessness, developing talent and self respect when there are so many shows worthy of that consideration.
When I was fourteen I acted, spoke and thought as a child and, hopefully, was learning righteous principles along the way to adulthood. Josh and his parents handled the situation the way is should have been handled. It's been dealt with so pack up your pitchforks or target a more worthy sinner!

  • M - 9 years ago

I think it should wh cancelled because of the cover up. The fact that he did it is bad enough but the family buried it and went on TV pretending to be something they aren't.

  • lindsay - 9 years ago

What just as suck is Anna new about it! And was perfectly okay with it sick suck s hi ck

  • Jackie - 9 years ago

I have been watching the program for a long time and sure would like it to stay on the air. We all make mistakes thru our life. He was a very young 14yr old.

  • Stephanie - 9 years ago

I understand where everyone is coming from I really do, but for those of you who keep saying that this was kept secret or hidden you're wrong. They took to the police. The only ones it was hidden from was the public and media.. I AM NOT defending Josh's actions. What he did was inexcusable but the show shouldn't be cancelled for this. I can see as well as understand not allowing Josh to be a part of the show, but everyone shouldn't be punished for the actions of 1. Just saying.

  • Bo - 9 years ago

There is forgiveness from all sins. That being said, you still are accountable for your actions. Someone who murders can be forgiven. They still have to pay the price for the crime. Anyone sin can be forgiven. That does not absolve you of responsibility5.

  • Martha - 9 years ago

Everyone makes mistakes thats why we need the Lord. When we confess our sins and are truley sorry, He forgives us as far as the east is from the west and remembers it no more. Josh, when the devil reminds your past, remind him of his future.
    Martha

  • Dani Litman - 9 years ago

There are ramifications for his actions that were NEVER carried out!!! Make his sick sorry excuse for a human being register as the sex offender he is!!!!! The fact that his elders and his church hid this is deplorable shame on them. They are just as guilty as he is for not protecting the innocence of those girls. And as far as everyone stating he needs prayer get over yourselves. He is only sorry because he got cought! Sorry means you won't do it again.

  • Pearl - 9 years ago

I believe that instead of bashing the Duggars we need to pray for them. We are not the judge. He was young when this happened. Come on people we are all human. Just because they are on T.V. It gets so much media. If it was you or I no one would of known about it. I will be praying for the family and praying that TLC will not cancel the show. This family is a Very Godly family. I love the Duggars.

  • Luz Elena Arriaga - 9 years ago

Josh was almost a child when that happen, Probably his misconduct is a consequence of that very exaggerated restrictions raising kids as The Duggars family way. Just hopping that Josh is not a victim of sexual abuse too.

  • m.d.hoffman - 9 years ago

Josh was honest about his sexual misconduct. He was only 14 yrs. old and what he did was not
an unusual act nor unforgivable. Don't forget that former President Clinton lied to the entire
world that he didn't have "sex". I don't agree with Josh's religion or Clinton's politics, but that
doesn't give me the right to judge either one of them. Obvious to me that politics are involved
    here.

  • Suzanne - 9 years ago

The show should remain, but Josh should be removed from it.

  • Pamela uchrinscko - 9 years ago

michelle wants us to accept them as an imperfect family dependent on the grace of God . But when it comes to her own sister or Josh's sister-in-law , it's another story. The show is a charade. It needs to be taken off the air.

  • Saddened - 9 years ago

Shame on the fans for judging. "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at him." If it happened 12 yrs ago that would make Josh about 15 or younger, wouldn't it? Of course it was wrong but it sounds more like a child discovering feelings that he didn't quite understand & experimenting in away he should not of done. Josh was not an adult when this happened and this HAPPENED 12 YEARS AGO PEOPLE, FOR GOODNESS SAKE! If it had not of been for the way he was raised he would of never felt the conviction at such a young age in order to go to his parents to confess and seek counseling. How many young people raised in the this world would of ever felt conviction in order to confess to his parents AND know to ask God for His forgiveness as Josh as done. I know God has forgiven him and I know that this is Satan & his followers like Oprah & the rest of the entertainment world out to destroy any flicker of light left in this world. May God have mercy on all of us if we allow this to happen to this precious family and shame on you Mark Burnett if you cancel the only program out their that shines that light. May God Bless all the Duggars.
