I think a open world game system sounds really interesting, it can help the players keep their passion last longer while playing this game as there are more features can be traveled. But the main point is, how could the town helps Yandere Chan to achieve her goal, like killing, buying weapons, collecting information etc. In fact, the goal that I mentioned above can be achieved in school area already. Adding a small town seems useless towards Yandere Chan. But, if there are going to add some new goals to Yandere Chan that can only achieve in the town, the town is a great feature towards this game.

I think a little town is OK. Not need too big, maybe some way to go to supermarket or other places. Then Yandere can go those place to buy something she needs. I mean even not need a town, just some way to go to some places, like Yandere go to school that.

I'd love to make a game like you, I have some ideas but nothing concrete.
About the open world, I think you should open it, but you should first make a close space and add some maps every now and then as a part of maintenance or just extensions for the game.
because of final exams I haven't read yet your log progress, but I'll make some time so I can ask a few questions about the game and hope to give some ideas for it.

In my opinion, open world is a great idea because we can stalk senpai and rivals or any other. I'm basically looking for a game wherein we can roam around and interact with stuff and all that. It's true that open world could make Yandere Sim better... but chances are higher that it would just detract from the game. It'd need to be very well made and designed, six months doesn't even start to cover a project like that.
First, make the game without open world. Then you can expand upon it later, either by an expansion or by making Yandere Sim2, which could be designed to be open world to begin with.
PS. Don't make the game that "your fans" want you to make... make the game that YOU want to make. This is important.
However, make a GAME. Not eternity project #78123 which will never be completed because it set its goals too high.

What I'd like to see in YS would be a town area where I can follow the girls from school to their homes , allowing us to spy them through the open windows or from a roof with the camera. Also being able to customize our character to make ourself prettier so our reputation would grow faster..and maybe one day reach a point where Senpai would notice us...or not. Haha
I'm not so sure about the weapon store but why not stealing item like scissors or knives from homes or school. Maybe even rabbit's hole in which we could get more point , like a stadium or a library..

I don't think open a town is a good idea. It's so waster resources and time. As you said, this game is a horror game. I prefer focusing on the game but not the environment unless the town have largely interaction for play.
However, you can make a route which is Senpai walks everyday. Yandere could follow, peek, stealing, or something like that to Senpai. It's doesn't use too many resources, but also have more fun based on a horror game.

I have a suggestion I hope you read my comment I think you should make it a open world game yes it will take time but it will be worth it but you should make it still the main idea of the story that a girl is in love with her Senpai and she is going to kill anybody or whoever she needs to make her goal complete but the open world will be also a good part of that you can follow Senpi home or any other person that you're suspicious of and also taking pictures instead of sending them through email you can go to the girls house that you're sending them to show her the photos so you have more things to do in the open world and you can also talk to people and have more options as in finding out things about Senpai asking other people that you see that talk to him you want to know what they were talking about or more information about Senpi but for them to tell you you have to do what they want you to do you might have to go out in the open world and do what they ask you to do and they give you the details of how to do it and for the weapons you should make it where the weapons are hidden and you have to find them or you can buy them in stores now I think you should make the week longer instead of just 5 days of completing your goal like for Saturday and Sunday since those will be days where you don't go to school you can either go to Senpis house and find out what he's doing over the weekend or anybody else you need to that is a suspicion to you about your Senpai or you can have a job and make money pay people to do things for you like take pictures of the girls panties and send them to you to go to the girls house or you can make it optional where you can send them or you can just go to a girls house just for the fun of it and the main idea for the panties is so they'll pay her even though you're making money to pay other people but its just for fun you can also use the money for other reasons and you need that money not to pay her but to do other things so you have underwear shots so they'll pay her you should make it more harder to kill people and really make It detailed you should make it where you have parents and you live a normal life just like Sims 4 or Sims 3 or any of the sims but not like that what I mean is like you have your life and everything but its only you go home you go to school you can go around places but your main idea Is to win your senpai you have parents and they can ask you about your day and things like that and if people are going missing in school cause you killed them you should make it like cops will come to school and be walking around and investigating instead of when you leave school and go home it says cops investigated and If u get away with It cops will be suspicious but won't be at school you should make it when you're in school cops will be there & walk around & investigate and they can question you questions and if you say the wrong thing you can give away information that you probably did it and looks suspicious and talking to students if you would commit a murder you can act like suspicious and everything and they can tell the teacher you're acting weird and the teacher can talk to you like that I hope that you read my comment and think about it I really want this game to be very detailed I want It be a very good game I really like this game I play this all the time and it's not even a full version it's only 9% done and I play it and I love it and as I play it I have so many ideas you can do for it but I most likely won't get any of my ideas in the game maybe depending on how your feeling about it or if you even read it which I hope you do because you don't know how bad I've been just thinking about this I wish I could explain this to you in a better way It would be better if I can just tell you because I'm not really good at explaining things but I don't think your really looking for an explanation on what you want added to the game I think your main thing was just an open world or not but

I think it will be great if you can make a open world! Maybe Yandere-Chan can meet the people who senpai knows and greet Yandere-Chan from his friends/neighbors. She can also become a goodgirl among her neighborhood after she solves their problem.Then senpaimay start to notice her.

I voted yes, but first and foremost I believe you should always try to work within your limits, bearing in mind how many resources you have and when you want to release the game. If an open world is just too much then please hold off. We can always have GTA Yandere for the sequel.

I support adding a small town or adding some special events to transfer all the students to another places such as school trips or camping. Also I would like to suggest the game's finish time can be prolonged to 6 months that can let students can have different activites and more different ways to be killed. For example, if there is a chance to have camping with classmates, you can just create some of the small area not a town, alsothe ways or methods of dying and killing will be more interesting. By the way, I would also suggest if you can make each students have friendship rate that if the rate has arrive to a high rank, the student can be invited to Yanderi Chan's home or invite Yanderi Chan to her house, this can make more fun for killing them in different places. These are me opinions. Hope that you will have brainstorm for your game~^^
An open world game seems to be a great idea but with just 1 person it might be difficult. I suggest having a community based system that you can direct. I also think that having an open world creates many situations for murder.

You could also add some interesting side plots, because I am easily bored with the violent aspects of most video games.

There are several reasons an open (or at least semi-open) world could be great for the game.
- Allowing interactions with classmates outside of a school setting. This gives much more room for gaining reputation and stalking rivals than a school with a strict schedule. Not to mention more time following Senpai and potentially adding items to the shrine(which could also be added in the school).
-Adding tons of items that could otherwise not be found in a school
-Potentially expanding on current features: having to take a kidnapped classmate home yourself(there could be a time limit until the sedative wears off), being able to see/hear the police approach from the station, reputation could determine whether you get invited to hang out places
-Seeing your effect spread throughout the town (missing kid posters, increased police presence, funerals, etc)
But these, and several others people have mentioned, are a lot of work. So I went with compromise since a small, but detailed town, is more than enough to add depth without delaying the game too long.

I think I might accept an open world but only if it acts to strengthen the atmosphere of the game. It's important to remember that this game is supposed to simulate the life of a yandere and a yandere only lives and breathes senpai. If one were to start introducing things like an open world, it may prove to be a distraction and the player might lose sight of their goal - something that a good yandere would never do.
For full immersion, I'd probably settle on more areas with specific purpose as opposed to an open world. An expanded school would be fun as well.

My Ideas:
An ally in the town where you could buy weapons from a creepy man and he could tell you the latest gossip.
Being able to stalk Senpai up to the point where you get into the vents of his house and can listen to his family discussions and more.
Being able to steal more items from Senpai and add them to your Senpai shrine.
Being able to see Yandere-Chan's dreams. (I'm not sure about this one because there would come a point where you've seen all of the dreams and it becomes repetitive).
Maybe your character could be coustomizable.
The rival and Senpai could be randomized each time so that you have to do a bit of looking around to find out who you want to kill and who you want to kidnap.
There could be a pair of panties with Senpai's face on it.
Being able to train to beat sensei. (Also not sure about this one because of the fact that you have only a week to finish)
***I do think that the game should be open world but another option is to have them live at the school so that it's easier to sneak into people's dorms (maybe giving you the option to suffocate them with a pillow while they're sleeping)***

There's multiple reaons why a small town is a good idea. You can get a part-time job and buy weapons, for one. For another, think of the social sabotaging opportunities! And the stalking oppourtunities! Or finding random panties to take pictures of! Or even murder possibilities! Just think!
And since I guess you've gotten quite a few volunteers for coding, it won't be much of a problem getting any. I think you'll be fine, and the final release of the game can wait :3

I think it should be open world but the town should mostly be full of the homes of your schoolmates. You could be able to stalk your schoolmates (or maybe even your teachers) in the town to find out more information about Senpai. Finding out more information would be able to help you find an easy way to kidnap him or do other things like murder students.

Scope creep is a dangerous thing. While an open world could be a great thing, it might be good to remember the object of the game. Prevent your rivals from taking your senpai away. Adding a few additional areas could go a long way towards making the game feel fresh, but there is no need to go Rockstar/Bethesda with it. This game at its heart seems to be a dark parody of many of the anime tropes centered around school life in modern Japan. A few more areas, or seasonal changes to the school based on common anime/manga themes in the genre will probably do more for the overall atmosphere than a haphazardly designed town for the sake of adding real estate.
Beach trip/indoor water park, school festival, an eatery popular with young teens. Activity tropes such as the school trip tests of courage and seven mysteries of the school could also be done to keep gameplay and atmosphere fresh while reducing the load on the 3D end.
A "town map" could be used to travel between areas instead of pointless bike riding or endless sprints. It will also easily allow expansion by adding more areas as you make them.
Open world games are successful because the games that feature them are supposed to make the player feel like they're free to do whatever they want, however they want, whenever they want. Yandere simulator really only needs the "however they want". Your game's "what" is make yandere chan's rivals disappear. The "how" is however you want to. The "when" is before your rival confesses to senpai. The player isn't projecting themself into the world, they're in Yandere chan's shoes. Yandere chan doesn't want to go climb the mountain in the distance because it's there, she wants senpai.
Now that I've written a book on the matter I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to you for your dedication and continued rapport with your anticipating fans. It's really shaping up to be a great project.

Even though many people are saying this game should be focused on just the highschool, I think it should be an open map because it would make peiple want to play it again and again due to because of differnt ways to kill rivals. I also think that maybe you could stalk senpai in public and see what he is up too.
I think compromising is a much more safe approach to this.
We can wait longer for it since that leaves you much more time for polishing the game and reviewing things a little better but it could also as you are aware make some people restless and bored just in the wait but the game will eventually release and they will love it nevertheless.
Also, I think brainstorming absolutely everything in yandere simulator to have a functionality and giving plenty of content to mess around so players can achieve the main goals of the game however they want to could obliterate the factor of Yandere Sim becoming "boring" too quickly.
Some more locations like a school trip with new ways to get rid of rivals or adquire new and unique items to use them later in the highschool also sounds cool. There is plenty more than just a small town with a fake sensation of open world like the one Natsuiro Highschool gave me. It felt dull and uninteresting plus many things are obviously without a point and just decor whereas in Yandere Sim you could totally do something about it.
Fire extinguisher? Now useful! Random fire event to improve reputation and stance with senpai! or to murder someone in the process and look like a hero in the end!
Tree? Spy people and maybe even rivals with high-tech spy gear. Also drop down heavy stuff to kill people.
Bushes? Hide corpses or illegal stuff in it! Warning: might be found at random!
Jumping? Maybe just add it for fun? Also to see Yandere's panties in case we forget which we are wearing? Okay no it seems pretty pointless.
Better camera = Better pantyshots = ¿More favor points? or ¿Better favor options?
I trust you greatly with the development of this game and I like the way its going so far, its a pretty ambitious task and its a lot to work with but I hope we can help you achieve the game we and you deserve.

An open world yandere Sim would be amazing. One idea is to consider making the school a boarding school so there are dorms for boys and girls.
So, if you do a compromise. My wife had suggested doing a residential area, if you do this, this could lead to more ways to dispose of competition, such as framing them for murdering other students, or, in the case of like purple hair, you could allow us to murk someone close to the character (her father) and frame them for that? Or, you could include an area or jobs for some of the various rivals, and finding out where they work, we could use that to our advantage, such as one that works at a food delivery service, we could call them for a delivery, and then murk em then, but we'd need to dispose of things like vehicles.

I don't think it necessarily has to be an open world town per say. You can just have a town map with key locations like a dating sim game does. Perhaps one component of the game could be following Senpai around town to learn things about them which may be different for every playthrough.

I think that you should definitely create some sort of small town for Yandere Simulator, but at the same time, keep the focus of killing off your rivals so that you can be with Senpai. However, I think that there should be some sort of "punishment" as well. Maybe if you're out in the town too late (miss class, late evening) you are restricted to a certain area. Just a thought. Really excited to see the final game, even if it does take longer!

I can totally understand what you want to create, and the fact that you're afraid that the game might become boring more easily and faster if you don't make it open world. But to be honest: I guess that the focus will be much more on open world in the end than in the features I would like to see. I mean Yandere Sim shouldn't be a special game because of the many places you can visit and explore (there are enough games of this kind already), it should be unique because of just being a crazy Yandere bitch who will most likely kill half of the school and scare the hell out of her Senpai while keeping up the facade of being the cute girl next door. If the town may has some nice features in it (like trolling the police men in the police office with setting wrong tracks up so they won't consider you as the murderer, setting houses on fire and watching the firemen show up and take care of everything, stalk Senpai while in town, read books in the libary to get a better education (and other nice tips) , style yourself up in a beauty salon (in case you want to make it possible for Yandere-Chan to seduce other students this might be very helpful), discovering more dark secrets about your rivals (like watching them take drugs or something, and then replace the drugs with poison, without getting noticed, or make it an overdose so it looks like an accidental death), grafitti the walls of the town etc. I would totally go for it. But not because of open world or the town itself, no because of the features that will still make this game a Yandere Simulator and not a regular "Japanese Highschoolgirl who has a big crush on Someone - Simulator". But even this could take it's turn into the wrong decision. As long as you will work hard on the school building everything will be fine, which is for sure the case. Just keep on being creative with killing (and harrassing) methods! I hope there will oneday be a chance to join the Illuminati and brainwash Senpai into loving you... hehehehehe or put embarassing panty shots onto the internet to expose the other students.. in hope they will get bullied from now on. That would be way more fun than a stupid town!

Absolutely, Yandere Sim should be an open world game! Consider all the amazing opportunities. The game as a concept is great right now, but it can only be better if it grows. That takes time and work, but it will be well worth it. This is coming from somebody who's incredibly excited about the game and can hardly wait to play the completed version.
Speaking from my own experiences with writing, truly great work starts as a seed and grows. My own novel, about an artistic serial killer and his (western Yandere equivalent) wife, started as a short story. I've written it and rewritten it for seven years and two or three years ago had to totally alter the scope when I realized what I was trying to communicate with the book.
It's the same sort of thing for Yandere Sim. I think the game's true heart is a kind of yandere girl/serial killer open world game. Imagine a town with a couple of abandoned buildings, or buildings you could make abandoned--body storage, hideout locations, placing to bring kidnapped victims. Quests where you have to somehow keep the police from investigating you--even being questioned by the police, where the right choices get you out of trouble, like the guidance counselor you showed in Natsuiro. There could be a body dismemberment mini-game. Delivery/stealth quests where you have to go to the outskirts of town in the middle of the night to bury body parts you aren't able to incinerate at the school, because of course the school is guarded at night.
Listen, I can't code, but I think this project is amazing. If you need help with the writing, like the dialogue or the story, I mean, please let me know. I can send you a sample of my work so you can see if you're interested. If you don't need my help, that's fine, but please really look into expanding this game to what it really is at its heart: a slice of life from a girl who's life is anything but normal.

Hi, first of all, i apologize for my awful English, it's not my mother tongue, but i promise that i re-read it in order to fix some mistake that I made. I hope that you won't be gouging your eyes at the end :'3
I think that Yandere Simulator should be the "compromise" between a open world game and the way it actually is. Of course, i would really be happy to walk Yandere-chan around in her town (i'm already happy with the school and look forward to its final form), but i don't think the "point" of a Yandere is to have "distractions". I'm not sure how to put it, but to me, Yandere-chan should focus only on Senpai and the rivals that want to steal Senpai from her. If there is no Senpai involved, i don't even know what purpose she would have in her town. As a player it would be fun, but i don't see how it would really improve the experience of Yandere Simulator if it doesn't add much to its concept.
Naturally, if the whole town would be devoted to be part of the gameplay of Yandere chan, and not """"just"""" an open world experience, i would really enjoy and support the idea at 100%
Now, about the compromise: i said that non-Senpai matters wouldn't be relevant to Yandere-chan IMO, but, that's where you can compromise i think. I'd think that Senpai is the type of person to hang out and chill on week end, or after school maybe, soooo, Yandere-chan shouldn't be too far (well enough to avoid being noticed). He could hang out with his friends from school to some karaoke session/arcade where girls from others highschool would be considered as an additionnal threat from Yandere-chan, and that would lead from some kind of mini-quest or something. Maybe not all week end or after school time because Yandere-chan still has to eliminate a rival per week.
I also saw someone talking about the issue of having a big highschool in a small town. I think that the school needs to stay the biggest and more important place of all Yandere Simulator. That's where Senpai is, that's where you improve Yandere-chan, that's where there is already a lot of way to kill someone etc etc. And the school is what makes it really look like a slice of life anime, but the game and its concept makes it unique.
Anyway, all that i said i only from my personal view, i don't know nor think that everyone would agree x) But we all look forward to Yandere-chan's journey to happily murder anyone between her and Senpai, open world or not

I don't think you should make a full open world. I think You should create separate maps you can fast travel to. I suggest focusing expanding the locations you already have. make the school really big. Have a track,field,pool, and secret areas. Something like Bully you know. I would like to be able to traverse Yandere chan's place. I would like to walk to the basement myself. I want to interact with her family and manufacture new ways to kill. If you add stores you will have to create a way to earn cash. New areas such as a park, shopping center and carnivals adds new challenges and ways to kill. Opening up the world also allow more ways to build up rep and gain intel in a more realistic manner. If you're going to make a open world make it just the school and a small town. I like the suggestion of using the Early Access model of releasing the core came which is perhaps just the school. Then you will have the time and money to make more locations and a whole open world. Then release them as updates or expansions.

I think it should be more of an open field game. This will give the player a better chance to stock on senpai and to interact with more people outside of school. Also you could make the game more fun by allowing the player to buy weapons at a local convince store. Another idea that might be interesting for the game is allowing the player to disguise themselves as another person in the school so they can manipulate a different student for killing someone.

Let's face it, everyone would definitely want an open world game similar to that video you showed, it would really be mind blowing since not not many games out there let you play as a Yandere, just imagining it is enough to rile you up, however--- the work and funds needed for such a mind blowing game must be put into consideration, there is also the issue of the time it might take before it is completed or before the project falls apart, the stress this would put on a single programer would be legendary no matter his skills- a professional team of programers would definitely be a must for a game of this scale, donations alone might not be enough to pull you through this, i have mixed opinions on this subject, my honest answer would be yes please make it open world i would love that, but my realistic answer would be no it would be too much to ask of a single programer.
alternatively-- maybe you could come up with an enhanced version that takes place inside the school but also has extra areas and more places you can interact with like a cafeteria with food for example or some club rooms would also be nice- this is a game about relationships right? might as well throw in a few relationships like a friend or a story branch.
also after successfully releasing said game as an enhanced version of the original- you should be able to gather some real funds rather than just donations- which might help a bit more when considering expanding the game by adding an open world or developing part 2.

You could do something like the Social Link system in the Persona series where Yandere-chan can become acquainted with people in the town that can help her murder the other students. Like say, an apothecary for poisons, or the clerk for a shop for kitchen appliances. To become friends with them, they'd ask Yandere-chan for Yandere-ish favors, like getting red of a certain student because they bullied a student they're related to in the school or other such things. The closer you get to them, they'll give you/let you buy more things that can kill more efficiently.

School Popularity - All the students will be among a hierarchy of popularity,
Favorite Hobby/Trait - Student will have a favorite place to go after class, easy way for Yandere to find them. Depending on their popularity, a number of students will follow them.
Transportation - A bike will do.
Parents - Will call cops if their child is missing.
Yandere's Parents - Yandere will be warned that her parents are coming to visit in ? days. If Yandere has a kidnapped student and the parents came to visit on that day... Yandere's Parents will call the cops. If Yandere has not kidnapped or hid the kidnapped student elsewhere and the parents come on that day... Yandere will recieve money.

Compromise. Along with others I think you should only add a few shops/a mall and Senpai's house or apartment,and maybe even rivals houses/apartments if you're up to it. Or maybe just enviorments that Info-chan tells you to go to,but not a small town. As much as I want an open world,I thought that would defeat the purpose of the game if you added a small town,because it wouldn't be Yandere Simulator anymore if you added,let's say,fishing at a dock or anything that doesn't have to do with killing your rivals. Plus,it would take a lot of time and effort as you said,asking for more donations,hiring for more people,etc.
However,it seems that the majority of people want an open world,so if that were to happen,I say try make it relate to killing,stalking,or kidnapping,shops where you buy poison,first aid kits,anything that you need to try to get rid of rivals. Maybe a clothes shop so when you're in town and a bit bloody,you don't want people to notice you and buy new clothes. I don't know. So to sum it up,just make it relate to what Yandere Simulator is SUPPOSED to be to you.

I'm an animator in traning for video game design at my school. i think it would be great to have an open world game like that and to be able to explore. I do think though it shouldn't be all open right away. Mabey do quests to unlock new part of the world.

Okay i love the idea but.... If its a small school you shouldn't make it a large town. Make it like a simple town where you can possibly kill your rivals and dump their bodies somewhere. You can take your time on it i am all for it. My one downside is that you could get lost or you have to be somewhere and you miss it because you forgot where you were. Plus it would take away some important keys because of sloppy or unfinished work.

I've absolutely loved your work on this game up to this point, and I hope you'll take the time to read this comment.
With regards to the prospect of adding more environments, I think that yes, that's an excellent idea! However, I think that the idea could be much more well executed if these environments were not part of one, massive world, but instead segregated locations connected by, say, a world map. I love the idea of having the school on top of a hill, but perhaps instead of having a real open world visible from the school, have low-poly models of a town, a park, and whatever other environments you might want to include be visible from the hill. When the player leaves the school (goes a certain distance past the front gates) a menu could pop up, saying "Where do you want to go?" With options like "Home," "The town/mall" (the Town/Mall could be interchangeable, as each could provide an array of stores, but one of them may be easier to pull off for you), "'s House" (this one could be done with two or three generic homes that is picked at random for each student, possibly with a randomized paint color that is determined upon first visit), or "Stay Here." This is just one option. Another would be to have a town map appear (A La Persona 3: http://bit.ly/1C3gsFS) and that could be used to select which environment to go to. This would also be beneficial to the game more so than an open world because it would eliminate the problem of finding a rival if they happened to be en route from one locale to another, similarly to how the segmented maps in Monster Hunter allow the player to more easily track a monster. Not only would this approach be more easily accomplished, I believe it would also lend itself towards a more solid gameplay experience.
Do you want bullet points? Because you're getting them! Here's why an open world would be the best for this game!
*An open world would be an awesome way to dispose of bodies. I liked that the short video at the end showcased some interesting locations for where to hide bodies: the sea, the lighthouse. It could be cool if there was a graveyard, and you just went there and buried a body. I mean, who would look there?
*It could be cool to have a town where people comment on the goings on in the high school too: if there's been a string of murders, random people in town would be crying or consoling each other, and family members would grow suspicious if their daughter goes missing. Maybe missing person posters could start showing up in store windows? It would add a creepy, guilty vibe to the game, knowing that people will always be on to you.
*THE BEST FOR LAST: STALKING SENPAI'S HOME. This is the biggest thing that would be cool: sneaking into or around his home without getting caught. Super bonus points for catching him slipping at night.
There's a lot of room for immersion with the town, and while it could delay the game for up to year or so, I would think the payout would be so much greater. It would take Yandere Simulator from a great game to an outstanding one. I'd be more than willing to donate my time and money to making this a reality.

I believe that you should stick to the school (for the time being). As a Dev it's hard work for you, and the interesting concept about YanDev is the methods of murder. Open-world is truly an interesting prospect but I hope that you won't lose sight of the original game elements first and foremost. It's entirely your choice however which path you walk down, and I'll respect it. Your work thus far intrigues me and I hope to see more pleasant monthly surprises. :)

I think that idea of adding a town to Yandere Simulator and making it an open-world is realy great! But I also think you should first take care of such things like game mechanics or finishing the first (school) map and THEN start to create a town :)

Hi YandereDev, I honestly think making YandereSim into an open-game would be awesome, but I selected compromise, I think open-world is a little too much for YandereSim. These are my ideas.
- Rival's houses
- Grocery/Hardware store for special chemicals and tools
- Parks where you could possibly spy or kill other students
- NPCs that provide quests or reputation loss/gain
I personally love the ability in games where you could roam around, and I think the town would add much more to the sim because it would provide more challenges/quests for the players to complete. Just hypothetically, if you incorporated a train station, a "push someone in front of a train" type of challenge if you get what I mean? A setting to go with a certain challenge. And of course new ways and places for Yandere-chan to eliminate her peers or get information on them that will later lead to their death.
Alongside, if you added houses for certain rivals, such as 2 or 3 intractable houses, you could possibly follow them home and then gain new info on their address. I have one last suggestion you could consider. If Yandere-Chan is able to get into the rival's bedroom inexplicably, by a ladder or other surface she could steal notes and depending on the notes she could receive more study points or new info. She could also murder by suffocating with pillow, or sleeping pills, (ideally some way not involving blood) if Yandere-chan could eliminate her rival without getting caught by her rival's parents or some other bystander, she will dispose of the body somewhere and the rival will be pronounced missing the next day.
Objects in the small town could supply uses for Yandere-chan. For instance, if she murders somebody out of school, she could dispose of bodies into nearby garbage dumpsters/trucks, open sewage holes/drains, bushes, etc. Also, new objects that can be used negatively upon students likes rocks, poison, etc. I liked in Natsuiro High School game where the character could travel on a bike
I realize that affixing this small town to your Sim will take tons of work, donations, and help and that it will extend the finish of the game date, but in my opinion things are more worth it when having to wait for it.

I voted for a compromise. Although an open world could be interesting I think it would need too much 'filler content' that would detract from Senpai. Seeing as the world revolves around Senpai, where Senpai goes Yandere Chan is sure to follow. For example, lets say Senpai is on a sports team, how could Yandere Chan turn down an opertunity to watch her beloved play or the chance to sneak into the locker rooms during a game to 'borrow' Senpai's uniform or other clothing or maybe even manage to get a sneaky picture of Senpai while changing for/after the game. In short any reasonable (for Yandere Chan) chance to add to the mighty Senpai shrine should be exploited. It could also provide more ways to eliminate a rival either directly or by having more ways to discover more secrets to exploit etc. But most importantly, as I see it it also provides something to do over the weekends when Senpai is VERY unlikely to be going to school.

Yandere-dev, my opinion is that you choose the small town.
You can cut out some work by placing areas that are completely unnecessary unaccessable so that some work may be cut off. I'd rather you finish the entire school FIRST. Then use the experience to then build an entire small town.
I think the small town should contain:,
schools,
homes or public apartments that are at least 3 storey high to save modeling time,
shops or shopping mall to save space,
potential dating locations,
beach,
shrine,
playground park,
cemetery
police outpost
a path connecting all of them.
This about covers all the possible anime persona favourite locations
Also I have a question, do you actually read the comments? If not, could there be any way I can hand in my suggestion on how the game should expand? I really love to brainstorm ideas.

Optionally you can create event maps for certain occasions such as a beyond-the-town school trip areas but only the area is accessable and not the entire town beyond it and is only after a certain amount of days pass.

I think the open world should be good for yandere because when at the end of each day we see that yandere-chan follow senpai we could really do it and stop girls who want to speak with senpai. It could add more game time each day for blackmail, track, spy, buy some cakes in order to poison rivals. There would be 2 phase of gameplay : in and outside the school. I think it could really improve the gameplay of yandere and even if the game is delay i don't see a problem because i think the better games are those that evolve permanently.

A semi-open environment with instanced areas would be the best for both gameplay and your sanity, just a simple town would add some interesting mechanics such as...
*finding weapons/tools you wouldn't usually see in a high school (e.g. knives, drugs, swords, etc.)
-sedatives strong enough to put an adolescent to sleep doesn't seem like something a school health room would allow for obvious reasons, maybe they could be found at the town's clinic or bought from a shady individual (although I hear street drugs are hard to find in Japan).
INTERESTING FACT: BLOOD THINNERS LIKE ASPIRIN CAN BE POUNDED INTO A POWDER, MIXED WITH WATER TO FORM A PATE AND THEN USED TO CLEAN BLOOD FROM CLOTHING
-aspirin is a very common drug and wouldn't be out-of-place in a nurse's office, hydrogen peroxide can also be used to clean up blood. Upgrading chemistry would allow Yandere-chan to clean a bloody uniform in the bathroom this way.
*buying more innocuous equipment
-buying ability panties or extra uniform at a clothing store (apparently school uniforms are quite expensive in Japan, only wealthier kids can afford spares), instrument cases or piano wire from a music store, books to increase stats or learn special abilities (old army training manual, fighting and grappling instructionals for Judo, art of seduction ;D )
-purchasing those face masks East Asians wear to prevent spreading illness, this could take up a weapon slot and be equipped on the fly. Wearing it would prevent witnesses in town from being able to identify Yandere-chan and prevent an instant Game Over (although I think town NPCs should be stationary and should be busy with something, and every day they change position to give an illusion of liveliness, only ever moving when they witness a murder).
*stalking prey in a more open environment
-school authorities would quickly crack down on the serial murders of students, especially on campus
-selecting to stalk a target after school to determine her pattern and thus the area she's in, or having Info-chan doing it for you
*acquiring teh moniez to afford things in town (buying things shouldn't be required, just more opportunities for different strategies)
-job system like Stick RPG where time just skips and you get paid for the hours you worked, nothing too complex like a mini-game, maybe the weekend should be a time for the player to get money in preparation
-Yandere-chan can find employment at the different businesses with some requiring different stats in return for higher pay. Library (higher Language skill = higher pay), delivery service (required Physical Education rank 3), Pharmacy (required Chemistry rank 3 at the least, increased pay at higher ranks)
-selling panty shots directly to male students after school for money rather than for favors from Info-chan
*gaining reputation by hanging out with students over the weekend
-going out to karaoke would cost some money but render more rep points, to a beach would be free but only give +1 rep for every student invited, shopping with another female student would cost even more (clothing is also expensive as fuck in Japan) but give like +10 rep, restaurant with one other student would give +5
-like GTA 5's hang out system. Call person, meet at place at certain time (if the player is too late they'll get mad and rep points are lost, the tardier the player the less points will be given), time skip, head off in different directions.
IN CONCLUSION, an open world is unnecessary for this game. Instanced areas with shops, a neighborhood, beach, clinic, and other extra areas just to walk around in are enough. However, if you are able to create a polished game WITH a whole town to explore then do so, I would jizz my pants with joy.
Just don't exhaust yourself buddy, take what you will from my advice and good luck

Why settle for a poorer product that might bore the players faster and make the game a "play it and forget it"?
The open world doesn't need to be as complex as Natsuiro, a simple village with some building and shops would do the trick and expand a lot the possibilities.
I would much rather wait one more year to try a fully developed game than a limited one that i would play and delete.

I think a compromize could work quite well:
Either similar to classical adventures, that you have a few predefined places in the city, and can travel to it via city map,
or in the sense that you follow your longtime crush for several years,
including school transitions
-> find out where he will go
-> ace the tests there to follow him "by pure concidence"
-> ect.
Purly a open world, makes only sense, if you can actuall do something there.
A store texture on a city block where you cannot interact with and do stuff is not really usefull for the game. (If you could however poison cakes there -you know a girl buys them after school-, well thats a different mattter)

I don't mind waiting a little longer for yandere simulator, as I think it would really be worth it , if its the game you dream of having don't give up and only make it have of what you dream, as you have thousands and thousands of people who believe in you and want to see yandere simulator become all it can be.

I agree with Anna up there. Having the game limited to the school and just the neighborhood is a much better idea. While I LOVE the idea of having Open world, I cringe at the idea that some of the features which define Yandere Sim. would be left not as developed as they should be. Take for instance Just Cause. That has an amazing single player experience which fits well with the idea of the game. Now if they focused on it being Multiplayer a lot of those features would be not as good or worse, cut from the game.
It's a sad truth in how the gaming industry works. Though it's more than that too though. You don't want the devs being burned out in the middle of making the game either. So I voted for a compromise as I think it's the best solution to your dilemma. And I know that this might not get read, or my thoughts might not sway the populous enough. In fact, I have a feeling the vote is going to overwhelmingly be Open World.
If that happens, I will still love Yandere simulator of course. But I will be slightly saddened by the fact that it may be at the cost of the features that make Yandere, a true amazing Yandere.

I think you should have a mall, OR make the school LIKE a Mall with a lot more people. But mostly, I think you should make a place where you can buy stuff, like get more hairstyles, clothing, panties, etc. Or, after hours of school, you can explore and do those things!
If you're gonna make the town for the next update, don't make the whole town for the update. Add small things step by step. One update can have shops, one can have restaurants, one some parks, etc.

I think you should add more environments but make the school bigger don't make the town bigger (I mean if you think that's how it should go then fine) but make the school grounds bigger put in a library building, an old cursed building that contains ghosts or something that everyone is afraid of that will make killing them easier. Alright, I have no idea if you actually read these, but I believe you should finish the game with your current plans, release it on steam for a 25% lower cost than your desired price while labeling it under "Early Access", and then when you finish the town remove the early access label an mark it up to full price. This will allow you to hire employees, live comfortably, AND give the option to release the game earlier to those who have been following your builds. =)

I think it goes without saying that an open world would give the game more depth and richness. The main question is whether or not you want to commit the extra time to development. I know the community would happily help fund this project since it's such an exciting game concept. So if you feel it's worth the extra time to give yandere simulator that extra depth then you should absolutely do it. I definitely think the final game will be way better in that form and the best things in life are worth waiting for (Such as the perfect moment to murder one enemy and frame another rival for her death.)

i vote that you should make it an open world game, because it gives you more learning horizons and opportunities to get rid of your targets than just school.
for example, you could learn how to hide a body, or where to stash it in case you don't want it to be found. you could also possibly learn more skills for Yandere-chan that she wouldn't learn in school, like creating diversions for a large number of students around a target you have just killed, or hell, even making yourself into another person to get into certain places that Yandere-chan, as a student, couldn't get into.
i think an awesome feature you could probably use, if you had an open world, is being able to follow your target to his/her house, grab at their interests, like, what they're into (paranormal, be it if they're interested or terrified), and use it to your advantage as you follow them home, and map out how they get home. but you must also remember to kill them when their parents aren't home, so you study the certain times or days their parents are away. i mean, you're creating a world of high-schoolers, they must have parents.
but clearly, you'd need certain tools and skills to do that. you could let Yandere-chan learn how to properly cut the power of a household without hurting herself or becoming obvious, or learning how to set a fire to the household (with the body in it), without leaving any trace of yourself and make it look like an accident.
The possibilities are endless with an open world! Yandere-chan could do much more in an open world than just in school if she wants to get rid of her targets from stealing Senpai. i think an open world may also give here a way of knowing everything Senpai does, likes, interested in currently (important), where he lives, his hobbies, everything Yandere-chan would love to know about Senpai, since she can't talk to him herself. gives the characters backstory, more than what Info-chan can help you with. Info-chan may just give you little bits and pieces about them, but important ones, anyway.
either way, i think you should do an open world for Yandere Simulator. i believe that everyone's cool with an extended release date and having to donate occasionally, so as long as you keep up with the updates for Yandere Simulator and give us some nifty tips.

I vote to at least add a neighborhood environment because I honestly don't think that a yandere stalker that only stalks at school is very true to the idea of a yandere stalker. Sounds like she's only treating it like a part-time job, when a truly dedicated stalker would be stalking all the time, all over the place. In other words, if Yandere-chan truly loved senpai, she would watch over him everywhere he went, not just at school. :P

I voted for compromise because having an entire town to free roam through is a bit too ambitious. Why do I think having such a large open world map wouldn't fit as well for this game? Lets look at another game I'm waiting to be developed called Heat Signature.
All you need to know about heat signature is it's a game about free roaming a galaxy and breaking into space ships. Now, that being said the developer originally had many other plans for the game. Larger map, multiple player ships, and many other features were originally planned for this game. However, as the developer began to implement these features he found that many of them were almost entirely unnecessary and either added nothing of value or in fact detracted from the experience.
While I see the interesting in having a fully developed game world, considering the premise and the focus of this game I don't think we should really include that. As bad as this may sound, I would Rather have a MGS:GROUNDZEROES instead of a JUSTCAUSE2, meaning I would rather have a very small map that is very well refined and functional rather than have a large map with possibly more content but is guaranteed to have larger spaces of nothingness between the good stuff.

I think the open world in the game you showed is wayyy too big for Yandere Simulator. Realistically, I think you should only do the neighborhood and houses outside the school, because being able to explore too much of an open world makes it feel too free, too relaxed. Keeping it a small environment helps you get more into Yandere-chan's shoes, because it feels more more claustrophobic, narrow-minded, and obsessive like her personality. Even if it's the same environment, there's loads of things you could do with the school environment to have it remain fresh and interesting each day. Maybe have randomly generated events each day. Have you ever played City Trial mode on Kirby Air Ride? All you do is collect power ups in a tiny town while random events occur (Meteors, UFO, rail station fires, etc...) and it's so much fun. Never gets old. Anyways, back to my point. You could have randomly generated events occur each school day. For example, fires could break out, there could be a party in the courtyard or a school dance in the gymnasium, sports games and concerts in the gymnasium, the weather could be different from day to day, seasons could change, machines could break down, tree limbs could fall, students could celebrate their birthdays, clubs could have meetings in certain places, teachers could be out sick and cancel class, etc... and so on! Having the events be randomly generated would totally add to the replay value to see what events will occur on the next playthrough! Only a certain number of events would happen in each playthrough, so you'd have to play it through several times to see them all, and even then, it would likely not be the same exact combination. Things like events could either help or hinder your efforts as Yandere-chan, perhaps even cause you to rethink your plans. For example, maybe you prefer to murder someone on a rainy day, because the rain will wash their blood down a sidewalk drain, which would ease your cleanup.

After reading Vacxy's comment about adding someone's house such as the rival's house and senpai's house. If those are added then there should be an event where yandere-chan can sneak into the house all stealthy, that is one way to add a quest in how she obtained those things senpai use to have which is the things in yandere-chan's shrine. Senpai's things can be collectibles also. With the houses added, yandere-chan can visit the rival's house and frame the rival for murder by placing the murder weapons. She can also get dirt on the rival.

I think Yandere Simulator can work fine and be plenty interesting in just a school setting, Mr. YandereDev. In my opinion, it doesn't need to have a small town because there's already so much that works well in just the school setting alone. Like the idea that the school becomes more somber and the kids become more antsy as time goes on and murders keep happening. That stuff keeps the game interesting. Also having to earn class points to be able to do more things to get away with more is great. Now, the school could be a whole lot bigger in order to compromise. It could go the size of a University if need be. Have club rooms, a football field, a cafeteria, an auditorium, a locker room (I believe there is already a gym) and stuff like that. Maybe there can be more to the house than just your basement. Maybe you have an attic and a garage, too. Perhaps a backyard. In fact, rather than a whole town, maybe there can be a Cul-de-sac neighborhood for the school to be set in/near (which may also be a way to better despawn the students). That way you're still near enough to the school while also having a bit more space to navigate through. If Yandere-chan's house is in the neighborhood (as well as her rivals), rather than just spawning to school, she can actually walk to school and maybe she can do different things on the way (hiding weapons for an after school murder, going to her rival's homes to execute them there after you become popular enough, which also may mean you have to lure away the parents to carry out the crime, etc.). I think a lot can be added to the original idea and concept of the school without the need for a whole town, simply because I think the original setting is just a lot better thought out and there's no real need for other out of school environments.
I love the Idea of open world but, not something like Artificial Academy 3, better like Natsuiro version. (Sorry about my eng-ish-ese) . But if you gonna put buildings, like the house of Yandere-chan, they need a function for the game like: THE rival's house, the teacher's House and of course, The senpais's House.
Put the case: If some studient died, their family abandon the game, and a new family replace their with a new student for dont have a problem with the npcs number. Or another shops for buy items or new form to attacks rivals.
Another thinks is good, is NEW NPCS but with a Unique personality, and untochable for the players. I dont have to problem to wait, if is for a good game, 1 or 2 years is the limit. Good Work!
I voted compromise. I think having more environments could be really cool. I'm sure a lot of this has been said already, but I think if you tried something similar to how the Persona series does locations. "Fast Travel" from one area to another. I think that could add a lot to the game, regardless of how it's played. If you knew where certain students, or senpai, hung out after school, you could probably find new places and new ways to murder or sabotage them. You could make a murder look like an accident by throwing someone in front of a train or car. Or maybe some students engage in "unsavory activities" after school that you could use against them in various ways (maybe sneaking into adult places, or being part of a gang). Maybe you could find students with part-time jobs and get them fired. You could also get certain students to "accidentally" meet somewhere for a date you've set up. Possibilities are endless. Having it be open-world would be super cool, but I understand how much work that would take. I would love to be able to stalk students, or senpai, through the entire town. Or have the ability to find/buy/persuade someone to give Yandere-chan new weapons.
I think a open world game system sounds really interesting, it can help the players keep their passion last longer while playing this game as there are more features can be traveled. But the main point is, how could the town helps Yandere Chan to achieve her goal, like killing, buying weapons, collecting information etc. In fact, the goal that I mentioned above can be achieved in school area already. Adding a small town seems useless towards Yandere Chan. But, if there are going to add some new goals to Yandere Chan that can only achieve in the town, the town is a great feature towards this game.

I think a little town is OK. Not need too big, maybe some way to go to supermarket or other places. Then Yandere can go those place to buy something she needs. I mean even not need a town, just some way to go to some places, like Yandere go to school that.

It's true that open world could make Yandere Sim better... but chances are higher that it would just detract from the game. It'd need to be very well made and designed, six months doesn't even start to cover a project like that.
First, make the game without open world. Then you can expand upon it later, either by an expansion or by making Yandere Sim2, which could be designed to be open world to begin with.
PS. Don't make the game that "your fans" want you to make... make the game that YOU want to make. This is important.
However, make a GAME. Not eternity project #78123 which will never be completed because it set its goals too high.

What I'd like to see in YS would be a town area where I can follow the girls from school to their homes , allowing us to spy them through the open windows or from a roof with the camera. Also being able to customize our character to make ourself prettier so our reputation would grow faster..and maybe one day reach a point where Senpai would notice us...or not. Haha
I'm not so sure about the weapon store but why not stealing item like scissors or knives from homes or school. Maybe even rabbit's hole in which we could get more point , like a stadium or a library..

I don't think open a town is a good idea. It's so waster resources and time. As you said, this game is a horror game. I prefer focusing on the game but not the environment unless the town have largely interaction for play.
However, you can make a route which is Senpai walks everyday. Yandere could follow, peek, stealing, or something like that to Senpai. It's doesn't use too many resources, but also have more fun based on a horror game.

making now open wrold allows you to change/add later new features. For example, new place for "suiceide". Fining new compromising things in village for example. Or things like that.

I support adding a small town or adding some special events to transfer all the students to another places such as school trips or camping. Also I would like to suggest the game's finish time can be prolonged to 6 months that can let students can have different activites and more different ways to be killed. For example, if there is a chance to have camping with classmates, you can just create some of the small area not a town, alsothe ways or methods of dying and killing will be more interesting. By the way, I would also suggest if you can make each students have friendship rate that if the rate has arrive to a high rank, the student can be invited to Yanderi Chan's home or invite Yanderi Chan to her house, this can make more fun for killing them in different places. These are me opinions. Hope that you will have brainstorm for your game~^^

An open world game seems to be a great idea but with just 1 person it might be difficult. I suggest having a community based system that you can direct. I also think that having an open world creates many situations for murder.
Please notice me. I'm in favor of you making more videos because I love your voice and narration style. Extending the length of production time guarantees more opportunities for update videos. You could also add some interesting side plots, because I am easily bored with the violent aspects of most video games.
There are several reasons an open (or at least semi-open) world could be great for the game.
- Allowing interactions with classmates outside of a school setting. This gives much more room for gaining reputation and stalking rivals than a school with a strict schedule. Not to mention more time following Senpai and potentially adding items to the shrine(which could also be added in the school).
-Adding tons of items that could otherwise not be found in a school
-Potentially expanding on current features: having to take a kidnapped classmate home yourself(there could be a time limit until the sedative wears off), being able to see/hear the police approach from the station, reputation could determine whether you get invited to hang out places
-Seeing your effect spread throughout the town (missing kid posters, increased police presence, funerals, etc)
But these, and several others people have mentioned, are a lot of work. So I went with compromise since a small, but detailed town, is more than enough to add depth without delaying the game too long.
I think I might accept an open world but only if it acts to strengthen the atmosphere of the game. It's important to remember that this game is supposed to simulate the life of a yandere and a yandere only lives and breathes senpai. If one were to start introducing things like an open world, it may prove to be a distraction and the player might lose sight of their goal - something that a good yandere would never do.
For full immersion, I'd probably settle on more areas with specific purpose as opposed to an open world. An expanded school would be fun as well.

My Ideas:
An ally in the town where you could buy weapons from a creepy man and he could tell you the latest gossip.
Being able to stalk Senpai up to the point where you get into the vents of his house and can listen to his family discussions and more.
Being able to steal more items from Senpai and add them to your Senpai shrine.
Being able to see Yandere-Chan's dreams. (I'm not sure about this one because there would come a point where you've seen all of the dreams and it becomes repetitive).
Maybe your character could be coustomizable.
The rival and Senpai could be randomized each time so that you have to do a bit of looking around to find out who you want to kill and who you want to kidnap.
There could be a pair of panties with Senpai's face on it.
Being able to train to beat sensei. (Also not sure about this one because of the fact that you have only a week to finish)
***I do think that the game should be open world but another option is to have them live at the school so that it's easier to sneak into people's dorms (maybe giving you the option to suffocate them with a pillow while they're sleeping)***

There's multiple reaons why a small town is a good idea. You can get a part-time job and buy weapons, for one. For another, think of the social sabotaging opportunities! And the stalking oppourtunities! Or finding random panties to take pictures of! Or even murder possibilities! Just think!
And since I guess you've gotten quite a few volunteers for coding, it won't be much of a problem getting any. I think you'll be fine, and the final release of the game can wait :3
I think it should be open world but the town should mostly be full of the homes of your schoolmates. You could be able to stalk your schoolmates (or maybe even your teachers) in the town to find out more information about Senpai. Finding out more information would be able to help you find an easy way to kidnap him or do other things like murder students.

Scope creep is a dangerous thing. While an open world could be a great thing, it might be good to remember the object of the game. Prevent your rivals from taking your senpai away. Adding a few additional areas could go a long way towards making the game feel fresh, but there is no need to go Rockstar/Bethesda with it. This game at its heart seems to be a dark parody of many of the anime tropes centered around school life in modern Japan. A few more areas, or seasonal changes to the school based on common anime/manga themes in the genre will probably do more for the overall atmosphere than a haphazardly designed town for the sake of adding real estate.
Beach trip/indoor water park, school festival, an eatery popular with young teens. Activity tropes such as the school trip tests of courage and seven mysteries of the school could also be done to keep gameplay and atmosphere fresh while reducing the load on the 3D end.
A "town map" could be used to travel between areas instead of pointless bike riding or endless sprints. It will also easily allow expansion by adding more areas as you make them.
Open world games are successful because the games that feature them are supposed to make the player feel like they're free to do whatever they want, however they want, whenever they want. Yandere simulator really only needs the "however they want". Your game's "what" is make yandere chan's rivals disappear. The "how" is however you want to. The "when" is before your rival confesses to senpai. The player isn't projecting themself into the world, they're in Yandere chan's shoes. Yandere chan doesn't want to go climb the mountain in the distance because it's there, she wants senpai.
Now that I've written a book on the matter I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to you for your dedication and continued rapport with your anticipating fans. It's really shaping up to be a great project.
Even though many people are saying this game should be focused on just the highschool, I think it should be an open map because it would make peiple want to play it again and again due to because of differnt ways to kill rivals. I also think that maybe you could stalk senpai in public and see what he is up too.
I think compromising is a much more safe approach to this.
We can wait longer for it since that leaves you much more time for polishing the game and reviewing things a little better but it could also as you are aware make some people restless and bored just in the wait but the game will eventually release and they will love it nevertheless.
Also, I think brainstorming absolutely everything in yandere simulator to have a functionality and giving plenty of content to mess around so players can achieve the main goals of the game however they want to could obliterate the factor of Yandere Sim becoming "boring" too quickly.
Some more locations like a school trip with new ways to get rid of rivals or adquire new and unique items to use them later in the highschool also sounds cool. There is plenty more than just a small town with a fake sensation of open world like the one Natsuiro Highschool gave me. It felt dull and uninteresting plus many things are obviously without a point and just decor whereas in Yandere Sim you could totally do something about it.
Fire extinguisher? Now useful! Random fire event to improve reputation and stance with senpai! or to murder someone in the process and look like a hero in the end!
Tree? Spy people and maybe even rivals with high-tech spy gear. Also drop down heavy stuff to kill people.
Bushes? Hide corpses or illegal stuff in it! Warning: might be found at random!
Jumping? Maybe just add it for fun? Also to see Yandere's panties in case we forget which we are wearing? Okay no it seems pretty pointless.
Better camera = Better pantyshots = ¿More favor points? or ¿Better favor options?

An open world yandere Sim would be amazing. One idea is to consider making the school a boarding school so there are dorms for boys and girls.
So, if you do a compromise. My wife had suggested doing a residential area, if you do this, this could lead to more ways to dispose of competition, such as framing them for murdering other students, or, in the case of like purple hair, you could allow us to murk someone close to the character (her father) and frame them for that? Or, you could include an area or jobs for some of the various rivals, and finding out where they work, we could use that to our advantage, such as one that works at a food delivery service, we could call them for a delivery, and then murk em then, but we'd need to dispose of things like vehicles.
I believe having a open world in Yandere Sim would be an amazing addition to the game! Even if it takes longer and requires more funding there could be so much more to do and make it a great experience. Have you seen the game Fable 2? The open word made it so much fun!
I think you could have yandere simulator half of an open world like maybe she could stalk senpai to make sure hes not having a girl over or something. Maybe not completely an open world game but some aspects of it.
I don't think it necessarily has to be an open world town per say. You can just have a town map with key locations like a dating sim game does. Perhaps one component of the game could be following Senpai around town to learn things about them which may be different for every playthrough.
I think that you should definitely create some sort of small town for Yandere Simulator, but at the same time, keep the focus of killing off your rivals so that you can be with Senpai. However, I think that there should be some sort of "punishment" as well. Maybe if you're out in the town too late (miss class, late evening) you are restricted to a certain area. Just a thought. Really excited to see the final game, even if it does take longer!

I can totally understand what you want to create, and the fact that you're afraid that the game might become boring more easily and faster if you don't make it open world. But to be honest: I guess that the focus will be much more on open world in the end than in the features I would like to see. I mean Yandere Sim shouldn't be a special game because of the many places you can visit and explore (there are enough games of this kind already), it should be unique because of just being a crazy Yandere bitch who will most likely kill half of the school and scare the hell out of her Senpai while keeping up the facade of being the cute girl next door. If the town may has some nice features in it (like trolling the police men in the police office with setting wrong tracks up so they won't consider you as the murderer, setting houses on fire and watching the firemen show up and take care of everything, stalk Senpai while in town, read books in the libary to get a better education (and other nice tips) , style yourself up in a beauty salon (in case you want to make it possible for Yandere-Chan to seduce other students this might be very helpful), discovering more dark secrets about your rivals (like watching them take drugs or something, and then replace the drugs with poison, without getting noticed, or make it an overdose so it looks like an accidental death), grafitti the walls of the town etc. I would totally go for it. But not because of open world or the town itself, no because of the features that will still make this game a Yandere Simulator and not a regular "Japanese Highschoolgirl who has a big crush on Someone - Simulator". But even this could take it's turn into the wrong decision. As long as you will work hard on the school building everything will be fine, which is for sure the case. Just keep on being creative with killing (and harrassing) methods! I hope there will oneday be a chance to join the Illuminati and brainwash Senpai into loving you... hehehehehe or put embarassing panty shots onto the internet to expose the other students.. in hope they will get bullied from now on. That would be way more fun than a stupid town!
I think yandere chan should have a sister. Then in the final week Yandere should have to kill her sister. Or he sister could help her to kill other students, in a 2 person mode. I have been thinking about that for a while. It would be pretty cool I think.

Absolutely, Yandere Sim should be an open world game! Consider all the amazing opportunities. The game as a concept is great right now, but it can only be better if it grows. That takes time and work, but it will be well worth it. This is coming from somebody who's incredibly excited about the game and can hardly wait to play the completed version.
Speaking from my own experiences with writing, truly great work starts as a seed and grows. My own novel, about an artistic serial killer and his (western Yandere equivalent) wife, started as a short story. I've written it and rewritten it for seven years and two or three years ago had to totally alter the scope when I realized what I was trying to communicate with the book.
It's the same sort of thing for Yandere Sim. I think the game's true heart is a kind of yandere girl/serial killer open world game. Imagine a town with a couple of abandoned buildings, or buildings you could make abandoned--body storage, hideout locations, placing to bring kidnapped victims. Quests where you have to somehow keep the police from investigating you--even being questioned by the police, where the right choices get you out of trouble, like the guidance counselor you showed in Natsuiro. There could be a body dismemberment mini-game. Delivery/stealth quests where you have to go to the outskirts of town in the middle of the night to bury body parts you aren't able to incinerate at the school, because of course the school is guarded at night.
Listen, I can't code, but I think this project is amazing. If you need help with the writing, like the dialogue or the story, I mean, please let me know. I can send you a sample of my work so you can see if you're interested. If you don't need my help, that's fine, but please really look into expanding this game to what it really is at its heart: a slice of life from a girl who's life is anything but normal.

I think that Yandere Simulator should be the "compromise" between a open world game and the way it actually is. Of course, i would really be happy to walk Yandere-chan around in her town (i'm already happy with the school and look forward to its final form), but i don't think the "point" of a Yandere is to have "distractions". I'm not sure how to put it, but to me, Yandere-chan should focus only on Senpai and the rivals that want to steal Senpai from her. If there is no Senpai involved, i don't even know what purpose she would have in her town. As a player it would be fun, but i don't see how it would really improve the experience of Yandere Simulator if it doesn't add much to its concept.
Naturally, if the whole town would be devoted to be part of the gameplay of Yandere chan, and not """"just"""" an open world experience, i would really enjoy and support the idea at 100%
Now, about the compromise: i said that non-Senpai matters wouldn't be relevant to Yandere-chan IMO, but, that's where you can compromise i think. I'd think that Senpai is the type of person to hang out and chill on week end, or after school maybe, soooo, Yandere-chan shouldn't be too far (well enough to avoid being noticed). He could hang out with his friends from school to some karaoke session/arcade where girls from others highschool would be considered as an additionnal threat from Yandere-chan, and that would lead from some kind of mini-quest or something. Maybe not all week end or after school time because Yandere-chan still has to eliminate a rival per week.
I also saw someone talking about the issue of having a big highschool in a small town. I think that the school needs to stay the biggest and more important place of all Yandere Simulator. That's where Senpai is, that's where you improve Yandere-chan, that's where there is already a lot of way to kill someone etc etc. And the school is what makes it really look like a slice of life anime, but the game and its concept makes it unique.

I don't think you should make a full open world. I think You should create separate maps you can fast travel to. I suggest focusing expanding the locations you already have. make the school really big. Have a track,field,pool, and secret areas. Something like Bully you know. I would like to be able to traverse Yandere chan's place. I would like to walk to the basement myself. I want to interact with her family and manufacture new ways to kill. If you add stores you will have to create a way to earn cash. New areas such as a park, shopping center and carnivals adds new challenges and ways to kill. Opening up the world also allow more ways to build up rep and gain intel in a more realistic manner. If you're going to make a open world make it just the school and a small town. I like the suggestion of using the Early Access model of releasing the core came which is perhaps just the school. Then you will have the time and money to make more locations and a whole open world. Then release them as updates or expansions.
I think it should be more of an open field game. This will give the player a better chance to stock on senpai and to interact with more people outside of school. Also you could make the game more fun by allowing the player to buy weapons at a local convince store. Another idea that might be interesting for the game is allowing the player to disguise themselves as another person in the school so they can manipulate a different student for killing someone.

Let's face it, everyone would definitely want an open world game similar to that video you showed, it would really be mind blowing since not not many games out there let you play as a Yandere, just imagining it is enough to rile you up, however--- the work and funds needed for such a mind blowing game must be put into consideration, there is also the issue of the time it might take before it is completed or before the project falls apart, the stress this would put on a single programer would be legendary no matter his skills- a professional team of programers would definitely be a must for a game of this scale, donations alone might not be enough to pull you through this, i have mixed opinions on this subject, my honest answer would be yes please make it open world i would love that, but my realistic answer would be no it would be too much to ask of a single programer.
alternatively-- maybe you could come up with an enhanced version that takes place inside the school but also has extra areas and more places you can interact with like a cafeteria with food for example or some club rooms would also be nice- this is a game about relationships right? might as well throw in a few relationships like a friend or a story branch.
also after successfully releasing said game as an enhanced version of the original- you should be able to gather some real funds rather than just donations- which might help a bit more when considering expanding the game by adding an open world or developing part 2.

I think you should stick with the school, but make the school bigger, like adding a garden, pool, a small groove or something like that.
You could do something like the Social Link system in the Persona series where Yandere-chan can become acquainted with people in the town that can help her murder the other students. Like say, an apothecary for poisons, or the clerk for a shop for kitchen appliances. To become friends with them, they'd ask Yandere-chan for Yandere-ish favors, like getting red of a certain student because they bullied a student they're related to in the school or other such things. The closer you get to them, they'll give you/let you buy more things that can kill more efficiently.

Black Market - Can buy "special weapons"
Town - A home for Senpai and the rest of the classmates. You could even stalk Senpai or a random classmate for information.

Relationships - Yandere's relationship with the students. The student's relationship with the students. Even Senpai's relationship with the rest of the students. [Can be obtained by Info-Chan. Stalking, eavesdropping, and talking.]
School Popularity - All the students will be among a hierarchy of popularity,
Favorite Hobby/Trait - Student will have a favorite place to go after class, easy way for Yandere to find them. Depending on their popularity, a number of students will follow them.
Transportation - A bike will do.
Parents - Will call cops if their child is missing.
Yandere's Parents - Yandere will be warned that her parents are coming to visit in ? days. If Yandere has a kidnapped student and the parents came to visit on that day... Yandere's Parents will call the cops. If Yandere has not kidnapped or hid the kidnapped student elsewhere and the parents come on that day... Yandere will recieve money.
Compromise. Along with others I think you should only add a few shops/a mall and Senpai's house or apartment,and maybe even rivals houses/apartments if you're up to it. Or maybe just enviorments that Info-chan tells you to go to,but not a small town. As much as I want an open world,I thought that would defeat the purpose of the game if you added a small town,because it wouldn't be Yandere Simulator anymore if you added,let's say,fishing at a dock or anything that doesn't have to do with killing your rivals. Plus,it would take a lot of time and effort as you said,asking for more donations,hiring for more people,etc.
However,it seems that the majority of people want an open world,so if that were to happen,I say try make it relate to killing,stalking,or kidnapping,shops where you buy poison,first aid kits,anything that you need to try to get rid of rivals. Maybe a clothes shop so when you're in town and a bit bloody,you don't want people to notice you and buy new clothes. I don't know. So to sum it up,just make it relate to what Yandere Simulator is SUPPOSED to be to you.
I'm an animator in traning for video game design at my school. i think it would be great to have an open world game like that and to be able to explore. I do think though it shouldn't be all open right away. Mabey do quests to unlock new part of the world.
Okay i love the idea but.... If its a small school you shouldn't make it a large town. Make it like a simple town where you can possibly kill your rivals and dump their bodies somewhere. You can take your time on it i am all for it. My one downside is that you could get lost or you have to be somewhere and you miss it because you forgot where you were. Plus it would take away some important keys because of sloppy or unfinished work.

With regards to the prospect of adding more environments, I think that yes, that's an excellent idea! However, I think that the idea could be much more well executed if these environments were not part of one, massive world, but instead segregated locations connected by, say, a world map. I love the idea of having the school on top of a hill, but perhaps instead of having a real open world visible from the school, have low-poly models of a town, a park, and whatever other environments you might want to include be visible from the hill. When the player leaves the school (goes a certain distance past the front gates) a menu could pop up, saying "Where do you want to go?" With options like "Home," "The town/mall" (the Town/Mall could be interchangeable, as each could provide an array of stores, but one of them may be easier to pull off for you), "'s House" (this one could be done with two or three generic homes that is picked at random for each student, possibly with a randomized paint color that is determined upon first visit), or "Stay Here." This is just one option. Another would be to have a town map appear (A La Persona 3: http://bit.ly/1C3gsFS) and that could be used to select which environment to go to. This would also be beneficial to the game more so than an open world because it would eliminate the problem of finding a rival if they happened to be en route from one locale to another, similarly to how the segmented maps in Monster Hunter allow the player to more easily track a monster. Not only would this approach be more easily accomplished, I believe it would also lend itself towards a more solid gameplay experience.

*An open world would be an awesome way to dispose of bodies. I liked that the short video at the end showcased some interesting locations for where to hide bodies: the sea, the lighthouse. It could be cool if there was a graveyard, and you just went there and buried a body. I mean, who would look there?
*It could be cool to have a town where people comment on the goings on in the high school too: if there's been a string of murders, random people in town would be crying or consoling each other, and family members would grow suspicious if their daughter goes missing. Maybe missing person posters could start showing up in store windows? It would add a creepy, guilty vibe to the game, knowing that people will always be on to you.
*THE BEST FOR LAST: STALKING SENPAI'S HOME. This is the biggest thing that would be cool: sneaking into or around his home without getting caught. Super bonus points for catching him slipping at night.
There's a lot of room for immersion with the town, and while it could delay the game for up to year or so, I would think the payout would be so much greater. It would take Yandere Simulator from a great game to an outstanding one. I'd be more than willing to donate my time and money to making this a reality.
The rival could go through the town after school. You could spy and look for weak points to harm her. The house of senpai would also be awesome, like, really awesome. (O_O)
I believe that you should stick to the school (for the time being). As a Dev it's hard work for you, and the interesting concept about YanDev is the methods of murder. Open-world is truly an interesting prospect but I hope that you won't lose sight of the original game elements first and foremost. It's entirely your choice however which path you walk down, and I'll respect it. Your work thus far intrigues me and I hope to see more pleasant monthly surprises. :)
I think that idea of adding a town to Yandere Simulator and making it an open-world is realy great! But I also think you should first take care of such things like game mechanics or finishing the first (school) map and THEN start to create a town :)
Hi YandereDev, I honestly think making YandereSim into an open-game would be awesome, but I selected compromise, I think open-world is a little too much for YandereSim. These are my ideas.
- Rival's houses
- Grocery/Hardware store for special chemicals and tools
- Parks where you could possibly spy or kill other students
- NPCs that provide quests or reputation loss/gain
I personally love the ability in games where you could roam around, and I think the town would add much more to the sim because it would provide more challenges/quests for the players to complete. Just hypothetically, if you incorporated a train station, a "push someone in front of a train" type of challenge if you get what I mean? A setting to go with a certain challenge. And of course new ways and places for Yandere-chan to eliminate her peers or get information on them that will later lead to their death.
Alongside, if you added houses for certain rivals, such as 2 or 3 intractable houses, you could possibly follow them home and then gain new info on their address. I have one last suggestion you could consider. If Yandere-Chan is able to get into the rival's bedroom inexplicably, by a ladder or other surface she could steal notes and depending on the notes she could receive more study points or new info. She could also murder by suffocating with pillow, or sleeping pills, (ideally some way not involving blood) if Yandere-chan could eliminate her rival without getting caught by her rival's parents or some other bystander, she will dispose of the body somewhere and the rival will be pronounced missing the next day.
Objects in the small town could supply uses for Yandere-chan. For instance, if she murders somebody out of school, she could dispose of bodies into nearby garbage dumpsters/trucks, open sewage holes/drains, bushes, etc. Also, new objects that can be used negatively upon students likes rocks, poison, etc. I liked in Natsuiro High School game where the character could travel on a bike
I realize that affixing this small town to your Sim will take tons of work, donations, and help and that it will extend the finish of the game date, but in my opinion things are more worth it when having to wait for it.

I voted for a compromise. Although an open world could be interesting I think it would need too much 'filler content' that would detract from Senpai. Seeing as the world revolves around Senpai, where Senpai goes Yandere Chan is sure to follow. For example, lets say Senpai is on a sports team, how could Yandere Chan turn down an opertunity to watch her beloved play or the chance to sneak into the locker rooms during a game to 'borrow' Senpai's uniform or other clothing or maybe even manage to get a sneaky picture of Senpai while changing for/after the game. In short any reasonable (for Yandere Chan) chance to add to the mighty Senpai shrine should be exploited. It could also provide more ways to eliminate a rival either directly or by having more ways to discover more secrets to exploit etc. But most importantly, as I see it it also provides something to do over the weekends when Senpai is VERY unlikely to be going to school.
Maybe go for a set up similar to the Persona games where you choose on a map to go to different locations rather than making up a whole lot of travelling ground you can just have a handful of smaller settings to go to
Yandere-dev, my opinion is that you choose the small town.
You can cut out some work by placing areas that are completely unnecessary unaccessable so that some work may be cut off. I'd rather you finish the entire school FIRST. Then use the experience to then build an entire small town.
I think the small town should contain:,
schools,
homes or public apartments that are at least 3 storey high to save modeling time,
shops or shopping mall to save space,
potential dating locations,
beach,
shrine,
playground park,
cemetery
police outpost
a path connecting all of them.
This about covers all the possible anime persona favourite locations
Also I have a question, do you actually read the comments? If not, could there be any way I can hand in my suggestion on how the game should expand? I really love to brainstorm ideas.

Optionally you can create event maps for certain occasions such as a beyond-the-town school trip areas but only the area is accessable and not the entire town beyond it and is only after a certain amount of days pass.
I think the open world should be good for yandere because when at the end of each day we see that yandere-chan follow senpai we could really do it and stop girls who want to speak with senpai. It could add more game time each day for blackmail, track, spy, buy some cakes in order to poison rivals. There would be 2 phase of gameplay : in and outside the school. I think it could really improve the gameplay of yandere and even if the game is delay i don't see a problem because i think the better games are those that evolve permanently.
A semi-open environment with instanced areas would be the best for both gameplay and your sanity, just a simple town would add some interesting mechanics such as...
*finding weapons/tools you wouldn't usually see in a high school (e.g. knives, drugs, swords, etc.)
-sedatives strong enough to put an adolescent to sleep doesn't seem like something a school health room would allow for obvious reasons, maybe they could be found at the town's clinic or bought from a shady individual (although I hear street drugs are hard to find in Japan).
INTERESTING FACT: BLOOD THINNERS LIKE ASPIRIN CAN BE POUNDED INTO A POWDER, MIXED WITH WATER TO FORM A PATE AND THEN USED TO CLEAN BLOOD FROM CLOTHING
-aspirin is a very common drug and wouldn't be out-of-place in a nurse's office, hydrogen peroxide can also be used to clean up blood. Upgrading chemistry would allow Yandere-chan to clean a bloody uniform in the bathroom this way.
*buying more innocuous equipment
-buying ability panties or extra uniform at a clothing store (apparently school uniforms are quite expensive in Japan, only wealthier kids can afford spares), instrument cases or piano wire from a music store, books to increase stats or learn special abilities (old army training manual, fighting and grappling instructionals for Judo, art of seduction ;D )
-purchasing those face masks East Asians wear to prevent spreading illness, this could take up a weapon slot and be equipped on the fly. Wearing it would prevent witnesses in town from being able to identify Yandere-chan and prevent an instant Game Over (although I think town NPCs should be stationary and should be busy with something, and every day they change position to give an illusion of liveliness, only ever moving when they witness a murder).
*stalking prey in a more open environment
-school authorities would quickly crack down on the serial murders of students, especially on campus
-selecting to stalk a target after school to determine her pattern and thus the area she's in, or having Info-chan doing it for you
*acquiring teh moniez to afford things in town (buying things shouldn't be required, just more opportunities for different strategies)
-job system like Stick RPG where time just skips and you get paid for the hours you worked, nothing too complex like a mini-game, maybe the weekend should be a time for the player to get money in preparation
-Yandere-chan can find employment at the different businesses with some requiring different stats in return for higher pay. Library (higher Language skill = higher pay), delivery service (required Physical Education rank 3), Pharmacy (required Chemistry rank 3 at the least, increased pay at higher ranks)
-selling panty shots directly to male students after school for money rather than for favors from Info-chan
*gaining reputation by hanging out with students over the weekend
-going out to karaoke would cost some money but render more rep points, to a beach would be free but only give +1 rep for every student invited, shopping with another female student would cost even more (clothing is also expensive as fuck in Japan) but give like +10 rep, restaurant with one other student would give +5
-like GTA 5's hang out system. Call person, meet at place at certain time (if the player is too late they'll get mad and rep points are lost, the tardier the player the less points will be given), time skip, head off in different directions.
IN CONCLUSION, an open world is unnecessary for this game. Instanced areas with shops, a neighborhood, beach, clinic, and other extra areas just to walk around in are enough. However, if you are able to create a polished game WITH a whole town to explore then do so, I would jizz my pants with joy.
Just don't exhaust yourself buddy, take what you will from my advice and good luck
Why settle for a poorer product that might bore the players faster and make the game a "play it and forget it"?
The open world doesn't need to be as complex as Natsuiro, a simple village with some building and shops would do the trick and expand a lot the possibilities.
I would much rather wait one more year to try a fully developed game than a limited one that i would play and delete.

A tough decision, but the open world would grant more freedom to play with which would be beneficial to this sort of game.
I think a compromize could work quite well:
Either similar to classical adventures, that you have a few predefined places in the city, and can travel to it via city map,
or in the sense that you follow your longtime crush for several years,
including school transitions
-> find out where he will go
-> ace the tests there to follow him "by pure concidence"
-> ect.
Purly a open world, makes only sense, if you can actuall do something there.
A store texture on a city block where you cannot interact with and do stuff is not really usefull for the game. (If you could however poison cakes there -you know a girl buys them after school-, well thats a different mattter)
who care about the time it takes the most important is the quality of the game and an open world will be so awesome imagine all the possibilities
I don't mind waiting a little longer for yandere simulator, as I think it would really be worth it , if its the game you dream of having don't give up and only make it have of what you dream, as you have thousands and thousands of people who believe in you and want to see yandere simulator become all it can be.

I agree with Anna up there. Having the game limited to the school and just the neighborhood is a much better idea. While I LOVE the idea of having Open world, I cringe at the idea that some of the features which define Yandere Sim. would be left not as developed as they should be. Take for instance Just Cause. That has an amazing single player experience which fits well with the idea of the game. Now if they focused on it being Multiplayer a lot of those features would be not as good or worse, cut from the game.
It's a sad truth in how the gaming industry works. Though it's more than that too though. You don't want the devs being burned out in the middle of making the game either. So I voted for a compromise as I think it's the best solution to your dilemma. And I know that this might not get read, or my thoughts might not sway the populous enough. In fact, I have a feeling the vote is going to overwhelmingly be Open World.
If that happens, I will still love Yandere simulator of course. But I will be slightly saddened by the fact that it may be at the cost of the features that make Yandere, a true amazing Yandere.

I think you should have a mall, OR make the school LIKE a Mall with a lot more people. But mostly, I think you should make a place where you can buy stuff, like get more hairstyles, clothing, panties, etc. Or, after hours of school, you can explore and do those things!

If you're gonna make the town for the next update, don't make the whole town for the update. Add small things step by step. One update can have shops, one can have restaurants, one some parks, etc.
I think you should add more environments but make the school bigger don't make the town bigger (I mean if you think that's how it should go then fine) but make the school grounds bigger put in a library building, an old cursed building that contains ghosts or something that everyone is afraid of that will make killing them easier. I beleive it doesn't have to be open world just make the school bigger and interesting. And we could have loads of fun just in the school area.Thank you
Alright, I have no idea if you actually read these, but I believe you should finish the game with your current plans, release it on steam for a 25% lower cost than your desired price while labeling it under "Early Access", and then when you finish the town remove the early access label an mark it up to full price. This will allow you to hire employees, live comfortably, AND give the option to release the game earlier to those who have been following your builds. =)

I think it goes without saying that an open world would give the game more depth and richness. The main question is whether or not you want to commit the extra time to development. I know the community would happily help fund this project since it's such an exciting game concept. So if you feel it's worth the extra time to give yandere simulator that extra depth then you should absolutely do it. I definitely think the final game will be way better in that form and the best things in life are worth waiting for (Such as the perfect moment to murder one enemy and frame another rival for her death.)

i vote that you should make it an open world game, because it gives you more learning horizons and opportunities to get rid of your targets than just school.
for example, you could learn how to hide a body, or where to stash it in case you don't want it to be found. you could also possibly learn more skills for Yandere-chan that she wouldn't learn in school, like creating diversions for a large number of students around a target you have just killed, or hell, even making yourself into another person to get into certain places that Yandere-chan, as a student, couldn't get into.
i think an awesome feature you could probably use, if you had an open world, is being able to follow your target to his/her house, grab at their interests, like, what they're into (paranormal, be it if they're interested or terrified), and use it to your advantage as you follow them home, and map out how they get home. but you must also remember to kill them when their parents aren't home, so you study the certain times or days their parents are away. i mean, you're creating a world of high-schoolers, they must have parents.
but clearly, you'd need certain tools and skills to do that. you could let Yandere-chan learn how to properly cut the power of a household without hurting herself or becoming obvious, or learning how to set a fire to the household (with the body in it), without leaving any trace of yourself and make it look like an accident.
The possibilities are endless with an open world! Yandere-chan could do much more in an open world than just in school if she wants to get rid of her targets from stealing Senpai. i think an open world may also give here a way of knowing everything Senpai does, likes, interested in currently (important), where he lives, his hobbies, everything Yandere-chan would love to know about Senpai, since she can't talk to him herself. gives the characters backstory, more than what Info-chan can help you with. Info-chan may just give you little bits and pieces about them, but important ones, anyway.
either way, i think you should do an open world for Yandere Simulator. i believe that everyone's cool with an extended release date and having to donate occasionally, so as long as you keep up with the updates for Yandere Simulator and give us some nifty tips.
I don't mind the game being delayed if it'll become a much greater game as a result. Crowdfunding for Yandere Sim would go a long way, Yandere Dev.

I vote to at least add a neighborhood environment because I honestly don't think that a yandere stalker that only stalks at school is very true to the idea of a yandere stalker. Sounds like she's only treating it like a part-time job, when a truly dedicated stalker would be stalking all the time, all over the place. In other words, if Yandere-chan truly loved senpai, she would watch over him everywhere he went, not just at school. :P
I voted for compromise because having an entire town to free roam through is a bit too ambitious. Why do I think having such a large open world map wouldn't fit as well for this game? Lets look at another game I'm waiting to be developed called Heat Signature.
All you need to know about heat signature is it's a game about free roaming a galaxy and breaking into space ships. Now, that being said the developer originally had many other plans for the game. Larger map, multiple player ships, and many other features were originally planned for this game. However, as the developer began to implement these features he found that many of them were almost entirely unnecessary and either added nothing of value or in fact detracted from the experience.
While I see the interesting in having a fully developed game world, considering the premise and the focus of this game I don't think we should really include that. As bad as this may sound, I would Rather have a MGS:GROUNDZEROES instead of a JUSTCAUSE2, meaning I would rather have a very small map that is very well refined and functional rather than have a large map with possibly more content but is guaranteed to have larger spaces of nothingness between the good stuff.
i vote for open world cuz, duh... there would be so many opportunities. maybe we could find new information from asking people or eavesdropping - nice! and also please add some heart events for Senpai ._.
ah one thing about going open world... how about changing uniform? i mean, we should change bloody uniform into a clean one, right? and the corpse tho.. we will need some incinerators in the town.
I think the open world in the game you showed is wayyy too big for Yandere Simulator. Realistically, I think you should only do the neighborhood and houses outside the school, because being able to explore too much of an open world makes it feel too free, too relaxed. Keeping it a small environment helps you get more into Yandere-chan's shoes, because it feels more more claustrophobic, narrow-minded, and obsessive like her personality. Even if it's the same environment, there's loads of things you could do with the school environment to have it remain fresh and interesting each day. Maybe have randomly generated events each day. Have you ever played City Trial mode on Kirby Air Ride? All you do is collect power ups in a tiny town while random events occur (Meteors, UFO, rail station fires, etc...) and it's so much fun. Never gets old. Anyways, back to my point. You could have randomly generated events occur each school day. For example, fires could break out, there could be a party in the courtyard or a school dance in the gymnasium, sports games and concerts in the gymnasium, the weather could be different from day to day, seasons could change, machines could break down, tree limbs could fall, students could celebrate their birthdays, clubs could have meetings in certain places, teachers could be out sick and cancel class, etc... and so on! Having the events be randomly generated would totally add to the replay value to see what events will occur on the next playthrough! Only a certain number of events would happen in each playthrough, so you'd have to play it through several times to see them all, and even then, it would likely not be the same exact combination. Things like events could either help or hinder your efforts as Yandere-chan, perhaps even cause you to rethink your plans. For example, maybe you prefer to murder someone on a rainy day, because the rain will wash their blood down a sidewalk drain, which would ease your cleanup.
After reading Vacxy's comment about adding someone's house such as the rival's house and senpai's house. If those are added then there should be an event where yandere-chan can sneak into the house all stealthy, that is one way to add a quest in how she obtained those things senpai use to have which is the things in yandere-chan's shrine. Senpai's things can be collectibles also. With the houses added, yandere-chan can visit the rival's house and frame the rival for murder by placing the murder weapons. She can also get dirt on the rival.
I think Yandere Simulator can work fine and be plenty interesting in just a school setting, Mr. YandereDev. In my opinion, it doesn't need to have a small town because there's already so much that works well in just the school setting alone. Like the idea that the school becomes more somber and the kids become more antsy as time goes on and murders keep happening. That stuff keeps the game interesting. Also having to earn class points to be able to do more things to get away with more is great. Now, the school could be a whole lot bigger in order to compromise. It could go the size of a University if need be. Have club rooms, a football field, a cafeteria, an auditorium, a locker room (I believe there is already a gym) and stuff like that. Maybe there can be more to the house than just your basement. Maybe you have an attic and a garage, too. Perhaps a backyard. In fact, rather than a whole town, maybe there can be a Cul-de-sac neighborhood for the school to be set in/near (which may also be a way to better despawn the students). That way you're still near enough to the school while also having a bit more space to navigate through. If Yandere-chan's house is in the neighborhood (as well as her rivals), rather than just spawning to school, she can actually walk to school and maybe she can do different things on the way (hiding weapons for an after school murder, going to her rival's homes to execute them there after you become popular enough, which also may mean you have to lure away the parents to carry out the crime, etc.). I think a lot can be added to the original idea and concept of the school without the need for a whole town, simply because I think the original setting is just a lot better thought out and there's no real need for other out of school environments.

I love the Idea of open world but, not something like Artificial Academy 3, better like Natsuiro version. (Sorry about my eng-ish-ese) . But if you gonna put buildings, like the house of Yandere-chan, they need a function for the game like: THE rival's house, the teacher's House and of course, The senpais's House.
Put the case: If some studient died, their family abandon the game, and a new family replace their with a new student for dont have a problem with the npcs number. Or another shops for buy items or new form to attacks rivals.
Another thinks is good, is NEW NPCS but with a Unique personality, and untochable for the players. I dont have to problem to wait, if is for a good game, 1 or 2 years is the limit. Good Work!
I voted compromise. I think having more environments could be really cool. I'm sure a lot of this has been said already, but I think if you tried something similar to how the Persona series does locations. "Fast Travel" from one area to another. I think that could add a lot to the game, regardless of how it's played. If you knew where certain students, or senpai, hung out after school, you could probably find new places and new ways to murder or sabotage them. You could make a murder look like an accident by throwing someone in front of a train or car. Or maybe some students engage in "unsavory activities" after school that you could use against them in various ways (maybe sneaking into adult places, or being part of a gang). Maybe you could find students with part-time jobs and get them fired. You could also get certain students to "accidentally" meet somewhere for a date you've set up. Possibilities are endless. Having it be open-world would be super cool, but I understand how much work that would take. I would love to be able to stalk students, or senpai, through the entire town. Or have the ability to find/buy/persuade someone to give Yandere-chan new weapons.
I can't wait for this game to be finished!
