Should Yandere Simulator be an open-world game?

    Consider also two things:

Making an open world will also require balancing the world - the bigger it gets, the longer it has to be tested. If not, the game will become too easy and players will quickly find one surefire way of getting rid of rivals without much effort.

Secondly, volunteers are fine, but the situation may turn ugly. It's all free work until you make a lot of money and they want a piece of it.

Keep just the school, but design it better than a Half Life 2 level.

As you stated on the video, adding a town is difficult and time-consuming. And if you do it wrong, it will feel lifeless, without any interest, and it will be just a gimmick. It will also take away time that could be put to better use - one of them being thinking up new ways of removing rivals (which is the core of the game).

By limiting yourself to just the school, you will be able to design it in such a way to be full of surprises for the whole game. For example, allow Yandere to open shortcuts (such as the basement, to drag bodies around without being seen), or introduce new rooms week after week (such as a cafeteria being available after week 2). Make the school big and filled with students and faculty staff, and make it interesting to explore, and we won't ever need anything else.

I don't exactly know what you have in mind with the compromise, but you could, if anything, add a world map (or city map I guess) with a couple stores, a fast food joint, a gym, etc. which will be visited by students of the school. Yandere can go there too to interact with both the students and the store.

When Yandere Sim sells, and I'm sure it will, use the funds to make Yandere Sim 2 and then we can have an awesome town and live our fantasies of being a Japanese schoolgirl (I certainly would haha).

You should add the ability to date guys in the school so you can find out info about your rival, senapi, ect...

You should make it an open world game but not in a slice of life degre. I think this could create more variety to the game. For example you could plan more complicated more perfect murders by stalking/blackmailing people in town or just get items by blackmail if you couldnot afford it...

Also I think you should ask us for free volunteers, I'm sure there are lots of fans out there who want to help to you and maybe tey are skilled programmers. I'm learning programming right now and if I can I realy want to help with making this already awesome game complete!

    Have a nice day!

I really like the idea of a compromise~ C: having to model only certain environments (and hey, maybe there could be events!) would take less work than having to build an entire open-world, and thats what you did with Yandere-Chan's house. I feel like it would fit.

  • 李曼魁 - 9 years ago

    我投給了妥協。為甚麼呢?

    因為我認為Yandere本就是款為愛而謀殺的遊戲,但如果會無聊便可以增加它的環境而不需要開放的世界。因為開放了就跟GTA有甚麼兩樣呢..?

  • Hippy Chibi - 9 years ago

Stay with the focused idea. Get the school running, get the characters feeling right and get the game's core ideals functional.

Your own comments in the video said how much effort and extra everything the project would need to create such a game and I feel many of the voters are not taking the workload and difficulty into consideration while voting, and instead are focusing only on what they feel entitled too.

Also, as an indy project, and I'm sure others have pointed this out as well, but you have the option of post release content or add ons to add in extra things to the game.

If buying things is something people NEED (from the few comments I read), a shopping channel on the TV or phone should work just fine.

  • michael bennington - 9 years ago

I feel the game should keep the same general idea of murder to have your senpai, but I feel an open world game mechanic would help this game sufficiently. With the open world game mechanic, Yandere Chan could go into the small town and find her house to sleep and live. Also if you add the town you should be able to go into a shop to buy supplies to find and kill your next victim. The open world can also help with what you said about the characters vanishing into thin air. Your victims will go into their house and then you will be able to assassinate them there if you find a way to sneak in to their house at night time. But if you were to make the town you would have to make a police force to arrest Yandere Chan if she kills a person in the town and gets caught in the act. Everyone feel it is okay to take as much time as you need as long as we get the amazing final product you have promised to us in all of your videos. I am sure this game will come out as amazing as you've promised it to us. I am also wondering if once you finish creating the game and it is fully out on pc, if you will you put the game out on console (ps4,ps3,xbox one, xbox 360, exc.) Thank you so much I love this game and what you are doing with this awesome idea. If everyone is as supportive as I am then please take all the time you need on this awesome game. Please keep everyone updated on the development of this game. don't let the haters get to you. ^.^

I would love the idea of a different envoirment, but a whole open world will make the game too spacey with not enough action everywhere
A small town, not Tokyo, would be great, it could make skipping class/school possible or easier, the snitch achievement could be for telling
On delinquents skipping school and make multiple different reputation bars like a delinquent reputation and a teachers pet or social butterfly
Thing possible. I don't know a lot on game making, and a lot of the crap i'm saying could be totally ignored, but back to the main topic

A small town with a a few dozen or less houses, police dept, and hospital (if you can be injured out of school) and much more,
A police dept could be for stalling police of you plan on a crime or something like that.
I'm gonna shut up now. This is your game and you can make it anyway you see fit
But I would like to see a full game in reasonable game development time. I'm not rushing you dev. Good luck

  • RoseN - 9 years ago

An Open word would be fun as it would open up more ways to stalk people, hide their bodies in dumpsters or behind trash bags (if there's enough in the alley :3), A hair salon would be cool as that's a bee hive of girl gossip, same as a mall and a girl's bathroom.

I'm fine with waiting for this game.

  • Cat-tan - 9 years ago

Now, I voted for compromise, it would be really awesome if the game was open world, but it is also perfectly fine for it to be partial open world and partial not open world, ya know what I mean?

Basically, try to do it to however comfortable you are, Yandere Dev, because it's whatever you're going to be more comfortable with. Yes, us giving our opinions is a wonderful thing, but in the end, follow your heart bro. c: If you do decide to make the game completely open world, then I will not mind the wait. Haha, I bet a lot of the other people commenting and voting here wouldn't mind a lot. So yeah, that's all I had to say other then you have a wonderful game here I truly enjoy it. :'D Even if when I try to explain it to my Aunt + Uncle they think it's going to make people want to kill people themselves, but that's another discussion for another time. U w U Once again, a wonderful game you have here, I will wait patiently for the final product.

As much as I like the open-world idea and all the other options it would entail, I think you should focus on the "core" as in just the high-school portion first & get a complete game released ASAP. Is it possible to save the open-world idea for an expansion to the game at a later time? If not, then perhaps save it for a second game/sequel so you can have a series w/ different experiences to keep people interested over time (esp if adding open-world would drastically change mechanic, subgenre, mood, story, etc)

  • Anonturtle - 9 years ago

Having a full town would kind of go against how I saw the game. Even if it opens up to stalking events outside of school its still very hard to keep the game as focused as it was originally. I personally think you should simply make the school a campus. Adding vertical elements like stairs, a hill or a small park by making the school a campus both increases the area in a believable way and leaves it not feeling too big or too much work. Its normal for students living in a campus to not leave it for days at a time.

  • Elina - 9 years ago

    Hello everyone, Dear Dev,

I found if the game should be more open-world like... more places to go and watch the male or female students go home, you might be able to do something like do something while they go home or something like that. Of Course, your not need to do it,but it's my opinion. it could be fun to maybe.. spy students or something like that. or maybe more platforms on the game. it might be interesent. thanks for reading this stupid comment from me,like always... i'm sorry for my bad english. so ti could be fun! we never know! ;)

  • Gasai Yuno - 9 years ago

I Don't Know, But In My Opinion, I Think It Should, But I Still Think It Shouldn't. If It Had An Open World, I Think You Can Follow Senpai Home And Watch Him Through His Windows, Or Maybe Even Sneak Into His Home While He's Away, And You Can Follow Other Students Home To See Where They Live And Stalk Them, But At School, You Can Probably Hear More Secrets Like One Of The Girls Are Pregnant, And Gossip About It To Other Girls So It'll Spread Around. I Don't Know, But This Is Your Choice Yandere-Dev, So You Should Decide!! :) Cant Wait Till This Game Is Fully Done.

With a larger game, there can be a larger amount of features. You could stalk different people (or senpai) and see where they live, or what they do in their free time. You could use that to your advantage in the game. Other people seem to agree! You could also take classes or buy weapons and items that you can't get a school, whatever those may be.

  • SummerLeigh - 9 years ago

I believe that the game could be more fun if it was more open. Being able to move around more freely could be great. With the game taking as long at it is, it may take some time, but for those who are willing to wait patiently for the game's release, we'd say something like, "Take as much time as you need. We can wait." The progress rate right now is an okay speed. We need to pick up the pace to get it to where we'd like it to be. Give donations or help Yandere Dev out by being volunteers. Let's do this! ^.^

  • Jasmine - 9 years ago

I think that you should consider having people volunteer to help you code. Making an open world will not only create more environment but more events/methods of murdering a rival. And of course more things = more code. THANK YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD! KEEP IT UP

  • Austin - 9 years ago

I think the compromise is a much better idea. Create 3 or 4 more areas the player can access without creating an open world. I'd prefer a more focused experience that is impacted by the player more than another open world game. We already have enough of those and the beauty in this game is it's concise concept.

  • AshesSakura - 9 years ago

I would say that yes, adding a town would make the game more interesting but please let there be a reason for the town being there and not just added because you think it'd look cool. Like maybe learn where girls live and sabotage their lives there and also sempai lives or something close to that. Maybe if Yandere-chan kills enough people outside of the school the local police say there is a murderer on the loose and instead of it being linked to a high school student like your originally planned, maybe they could recommend students walk home in small groups to avoid being targeted?

  • Dakota - 9 years ago

    I say yes for Yandere Simulator having an open world. The game would be a little boring if it only focused on school, so having more places for Yandere-chan to roam around would make the game a lot more enjoyable. She can stalk senpai and her rivals, learn what they do for their own free time. It would be a lot more thrilling if Yandere-chan could kidnap someone and drag them out of town to her own house without getting caught. I was talking to my sister a while ago and we both agreed on Yandere-chan having her own diary, like Yuno Gasai in Mirai Nikki, and write in it about her senpai. Maybe you could design causal clothes for every student to wear outside of the school grounds. Having an open world would benefit more places and ways Yandere-chan could kill her rivals and get to "know" senpai a lot better. ;}

  • Bmhv - 9 years ago

Don't do it. Yeah there are a lot of votes on this but they didn't vote with reality in mind. In order to do this you'll have to bring a ton of mechanics, quests and activities along with it to make it not look like a barren, deserted town.

I'd recommend to look at Bully. It's about school life but it has an open world town with TONS of stuff to do. That's how you do open world right. If you really want a big world you should just do the campus Bully-style and just that. No towns, no overshooting for stuff. I'd rather play a well-made, satisfying game with a small scope than a big but barren wasteland for a game.

  • Mikasa - 9 years ago

I mean I would really like to play the game a.s.a.p but having an open game world could be really fun too. I mean like you could possibly raise your reputation by talking to the towns people or possibly buy things for Yandere San such as
    -More panties
Sure the ones in the closet are good but you could buy other special panties idk
    -Clothes
You could add clothes and make them like the panties but they would cost more and have more affects
    -Food
Maybe you could buy food to boost her energy or the powers of the panties
    -More weapons
If the weapon is powerful it could cost a lot but I wouldn't recommend this •^•
You could add in game money if you make the small town
Just some thoughts if you want to make the town..
OR... You could go to senpais house.. sneak in while he's at school.. steal his stuff and add them to the shrine.. steal his.. underwear...
OR... Go to your rivals house.. sneak in while she's at school and maybe find stuff about her to sabotage her reputation.. Maybe kill her parents so she could commit suicide due to depression.. Idk that's just a thought though. It'd be great to have a small town. I don't think you should make a big ass town. Since you could only play one week in Yandere Simulator. Unless you decide to put the b due date a little longer. ^-^ just something to consider

  • GreenteaCupcakes - 9 years ago

I see potential if you add a open world to the game. Maybe Yandere-Chan has to do quest outside of school to get the specific items she needs to kill the victim, or stalk the victim after school to see how she is in school life and home life. I think it'll be really neat if it's a feature in the game as long there is a purpose. I think it'll be more boring if its a open world game but you can only do events or quests at school only.

  • Shadow38383 - 9 years ago

I belive the open world approach is a great idea. This gives Yandere-chan multiple oppertunities to get away with murder in more creative ways and sometimed easier too depending on the targets habbits.

Open world is definately a task, but as long as its focused with the original goal in mind, it can become a role model for other games.

There's been a lot of success in Kickstarter and such. I'm sure many people would aid with funding that way.

  • 北河 - 9 years ago

I am really hope you can make an open world, so I vote the 1st choice. This is what I expect the game should do. Btw, that is my hope only. I know it needs more effort and time to develop a small town, not even the 3D modeling, also the action of the NPCs. It is hard to make the NPCs like a real person. Just try the best to make the game. I am still happy to see the game finished even the game have not open world feature.

  • Elise - 9 years ago

Why could you not make a first version limited to the school only and then 6 months later release an add on with a town? That really makes for some replay value and the game doesn't just end with the first version either.

  • PJ Nery - 9 years ago

no... at this moment there's no need for an open world setting... it's the ideal game yes but the school should be enough for now... however a few additional areas that can accessible, like a convenience store, would be great.

Some gameplay mechanics I think maybe nice:

*Friends: Yandere-chan needs more friends... all yanderes are psychopaths deep within but they're never unsociable outside. And most of the time they're really nice and happy and friendly to people and everyone likes them. At the moment, Yandere-chan is a really shady character and seems like a true sociopath.

*Permanent Sanity Damage: For every X person killed, your maximum sanity decreases, making it more harder to kill people as you tend to become insane a lot easier making it a lot more noticeable to others... Because no one really keeps their sanity once they start breaking... :3

*Rival Cliques: A group of bullies who's got their eyes on you because they know you like senpai. They don't know you're a murdering bitch though unless you show it to them. They're there to make sure your reputation with senpai drops. And since they got their eyes on you, killing someone might be harder since someone is sure to see it. The easiest way to get rid of them is to murder all of them as usual, but as a yandere, that should always be the last option. The alternative way to get rid of them is to have a high reputation with the other students so that they would be the ones to defend you against the bullies. Eventually the bullies will stop and you'll be getting a positive reputation again. This should give some incentives to try and increase your reputation with other NPCs.

*Rival Yandere(s): Turns out you're not the only yandere in school. There's one hidden in school and you would only find out if some girl that you know likes senpai gets killed. Finding out who the other yandere is up to you, but once you know who she is, you can frame her in getting the blame for your crimes, provided that she doesn't know you're also one insane yandere. She'll be your greatest threat late game in case you don't find out who she is as she or some other girl would have had a higher reputation with senpai than you. If you know who the other yandere is, you can either go for direct assault or frame her up. Direct assault won't be easy as the other yandere will defend herself. But you can't just randomly kill girls up until you find out who the other yandere is by expecting her to defend herself, then load the game. Unless you know who the yandere is, all girls will succumbed to a rampaging yandere... :3

*Impromptu Assassinations: One morning, you find out that senpai recieved a love letter and their scheduled to meet up at a certain place after school. And you have no idea who the girl is... You have up until then to eliminate the target.

*Social Media Stalking: Stalk senpai, stalk your targets. This is how you'll find out who the girl that's planning to confess to senpai is. Check your phone or computer(home) for whatever the girls or senpai will be posting and plan your actions ahead of time. Seriously, yanderes do a lot of net stalking... :3

  • Hornet - 9 years ago

I'm cool with waiting longer if you want a bigger game. Ultimately, the choice is up to you. Having a small town around the school leaves room for more different approaches to things like taking out a target, or social sabotage.

  • Raphael - 9 years ago

That has a lot of potential Yandere Simulator Developer-san, but you don't need to go all the way and make an entire town. Why not make the game take place in like a small campus with a couple shops, a park and a few dorms. That way you could stalk senpai home, or stalk that purple hair girl while she stalks senpai, because she surely is doing that everyday. That bitch! Maybe follow her into a convinience store and slip something in her bag so people would think she is stealing. Ruin a date senpai would have in the park. Walking around at night offer a lot of new possibilities too. You see? There's a lot you could do without having to code a game a 100 times bigger with areas that in the end would not have much for Yandere-chan to do. Well, that's what I think ,but whatever you end up deciding gambate!

  • BoatAntlers - 9 years ago

I voted yes, but I think a compromise could work very well.

The shops ideas all sound very good, and what kind of stalker doesn't follow her victim home? You don't even need to enter: just a window and hackable camera/phone could work.

So here's a compromise idea: why not have almost everyone in an apartment complex? Less buildings, one convenient location, can include "rooms" in the building that function as small shops and a gym, etc. A fire escape could easily give you access to room windows, letting you enter or just creep. Senpai's parents could own/work in the building and have an adjoining, unique unit.

I think it could open the world a lot with a lot less complexity, as there is a perfectly good reason for it and for all the homes to look pretty much the same in an apartment complex.

As for the delays, I wouldn't worry. You already give frequent updates and builds. That's more than most, and tons of fun.

  • Suzy Kingsley - 9 years ago

You should make the game you want to make, YanDev. If you start making just what WE want, you'ld lose your amazing vision of the game that you have, and that's the game I want to play most.

I'm voting yes, just because you said that having a small town like this in Yandere Simulator was a feature you've really wanted for a long time. So, you should do that. You have an amazing fandom that really wants to support you and your incredible vision. We can be patient. ^-^ We're sick of crappy unfinished games anyway :P

  • Mario5000de - 9 years ago

This would be good but don't make it an open world add more envioments yes but no open world plz maybe add some houses and shops and maybe a mini game but don't make it an open world and it would be cool if you add something to get around quicker like a bike or a skateboard or even rollerboots and plz add sliding

  • Linux Von - 9 years ago

I would love the Idea on the open world...But looking on the team and budget it would very hard on YanDev since he's working the game in full FREE.

But the Idea on the Compromise is better... Larger map but not Semi-Open is a nice touch and will require less money and business hours.

But personally if the people want the OPEN WORLD>>> I hereby volunteer.
Not in my looks but I'm a trainee 3D animator also I could make tons of fan art for YanSim for advertising the GAME.

  • Sapphire - 9 years ago

I think an open world is a great idea!
Think of all the gameplay ovpertunities!
    - Rivals hang out in the local cafe to gossip
    - More places to hide a body dumpsters, rivers, bridges, etc.
    - an secondary kidnapping mechanic ( leadrag the girl to your house)
    - the option for yandere-chan to have a part time job for cash or for opportunities. Waitress- can poison customers food and/or overhear gossip. Chef- gain access to the kitchen full of weapons, poison food, and access to the dumpster. Clinic volunteer- access to styringes and poisons, possibilities to kill visitors, or a boost in reputation when you help an ingured classmate. Tutor- gain exp. for subjects, ability to sabatouge the students grades (bring down their reputation), ability to improve students grade and improve your own reputation. Etc.
    - change the secrets menu into an Easter egg hunt across town!
    - fetch gifts from the local market to give to rivals
-the ability to throw someone in front of a car
    - more operation items for panty shots in general
    - more stalking!
    - more places to send people to their deaths
    - areas to set rivals up on dates
    Etc.

I know some of theese sudgestions sound more ridiculous than Godzilla, but I hope you gain some (better) ideas from looking at mine. That is, if you're reading these. Hope the game goes swell!

  • Anonomoose x3 - 9 years ago

As a fellow game developer, I will highly advise that you stick to the original scope of the game and make sure that the gameplay of that ORIGINAL scope is completed first, and is actually fun with re-playability, before trying to expand your scope beyond your means.

There are a lot of problems and legal issues that arises from hiring other people, and a lot of your time will end up being managing these people and overseeing their work instead. There is a lot of back and forth time spent managing assets from other people, iterations of work, animations and textures that are subpar, and so on.

I think that a open city would be great. It doesn't have to be very big city, it could also be a small village...
I wouldn't mind waiting 6 more months or even 2 years, I already love this game and i'm going to buy when its finished.

  • Jane Wong - 9 years ago

And actually, u dont need to give us a new build when 1/15, u just have to send us some sceenshots if u r too busy. We will wait for u>

  • Random Guy that found you on YouTube - 9 years ago

Open world would be really great just make sure to make places that have a purpose to it one way or another that way it makes the option 3 people happy and it would make option 1 very happy. But I think you need to work on the school abit longer to get everything done there then you can move on the open world town. That way you have something that is complete done. The school is missing alot of things so stick to improving that untill its more or less completed. Then slowly build the open world with one street at a time.

  • Melody - 9 years ago

I liked the simplicity of the original scope. I think the game should stay set in school. You're going to spend most of your time in school anyway, if your character is a student.

There's no reason why a school environment has to be boring. You could include all kinds of different areas as well as classrooms. Lecture theatres, sports areas, libraries, kitchens... Areas that are harder to get into on your own, like janitor's closets, staff rooms and science labs. Imagine trying to figure out a way to murder someone noiselessly in the library. Imagine trying to pass of an incident with sports equipment as an "accident". How about trying to off your rival in the middle of assembly?

How about all the things you could frame senpai for, thus ruining his reputation and causing no other girl to go near him?

I'm against the small town idea.

  • Jane Wong - 9 years ago

I think a shop for the tools for murdering, disposing evidence and corpses will be great. Maybe a gym to train yandere-chan.Also a shop for gifts so we can be cupid...Anyway, a street is enough. You can place shops that may help us during the gameplay.

  • sambosz - 9 years ago

i think if you can create the open world, it will be better
Threat the girl in her house, take all about her information when yandere go to her house
    or other things
if you can create the open world, may be you can make the dead line more longer
Also, the system, school, npc, etc, i think that all are good
maybe you could finish the system and school, after that ,you can create the open world (a small town)
or create 2 version, one is finish the system and school, one is developed the small town with other function

  • Cen - 9 years ago

Take as long as you need to make this game great

  • Zaven - 9 years ago

you should just do just like a shopping center like in persona 4 or persona 3
bc it'll take a lot of memory if everything is in one place like that; have small sections so it can take its time to load
like u go to the gate and then theres a loading screen and then ur on the other side of the school gate where theres a bike rack(if you intend to add a bicycle feature) and u can roam the town. it'll lag a lot more if its all in one place

  • tao - 9 years ago

I stand by the idea that a game is better off taking two years, if it is made into a very well made, polished game. Instead of it taking, i don't know, six months, and being a overall weaker title because of that,

  • Toothpaste - 9 years ago

perhaps the game could be open world, but the bigger world would allow for more colorful ways to stalk and kill. Maybe you could get info-chan to bug someone's house, for a large amount of favors of course, and learn even more about them.

Maybe, you can ambush a student, and get some more info off them before you kill them, and if you didn't get a chance to learn about them from eaves dropping, you can force them to tell you things to create a suicide note.

Simply move the mechanics from the smaller version, and put them into the bigger version, and maybe even flesh them out more.

Thanks for making this game, I'm really looking forward to seeing it grow even more and discover new and sinister ways to sabotage my foes.

In my think YanSim better to be open world game. I think so because this open so much ways for making game more deeper, more interesting, more stealthier, and more fun. AND ADD SLIDING PLEASE.

  • Hana No Shima - 9 years ago

I think more environments is a great thing to extend the life of the game. But a whole open world might be a bit too much. Perhaps allow travel to a few areas. Like a bike in the school lot where you can fast travel to a park. Maybe things like that. It would vastly lower the amount of work and budget issues, while also adding variety.

    Good luck.

In my opinion, adding an entire small town seems mostly purposless and fluffy; what benifit could a game about murdering evil senpai stealers have from a town? What would be excellent though is a compromise of sorts. As definatly brought up by other comments, having certain important areas, like a beach or secluded shrine, avaliable would add more dynamics such as luring people there and such. Basically a true overworld is mostly pointless and is just extra uneeded fluff that doesnt accomplish what yandere sim is trying to do, but some extra areas of interest could provide more entertainment without distracting from the core gameplay

  • BLANK - 9 years ago

Increasing the are means more places to kill, maybe stores that sell weapons, a visible police station. more areas to stalk senpai

Open world stuff would be amazing, but I don't think you have to compromise the release schedule too much. Why not go with a expansion format? The base game could be released, ready to go and with good content, and then later you can release expansion packs of maybe different parts of town that you can go to and more ways to kill others?

  • Jessica - 9 years ago

I agree with what pretty much everyone else is saying. Yandere Simulator shouldn't be an open world, however you should be able to go to specific important locations, like Senpai's house and/or our rival's house. It would be super amazing if Yandere-chan could sneak over to Senpai's house after school and maybe steal another toothbrush while he's not looking (idk! but adding to the Senpai shrine sounds cool to me) or sneak to her rival's home and poison her tea, or murder her in her sleep or something like that. Oooh, and if you added the option to sneak into their homes, maybe you could add that walk-against-walls mechanic that I think I saw in a very early build video!

Lol sorry if I sound demanding, I'm really just suggesting ideas, and don't feel forced to add them in the game. :) Also, don't force yourself to finish Yandere Simulator as soon as you can. I think this game will be the best when it's finished. Whenever I can, I always check your website for a new update. I really wish to see Yandere Sim on Steam in the future, and it will probably be my first Steam purchase.

People like you are what makes me want to get up and start brainstorming ideas for video games I'll probably never make XD You make it look easy, though I know programming is boring and hard and endless.

    Thank you so much.

i think you should extend the environment, maybe not as open world as it might be but increase it, there is more to school life than just school

  • Tomboyhippyprincess - 9 years ago

An open world game might be pushing the boundaries a little, but new areas that you can access from Yandere-chan's bedroom door would be really interesting! I will say that Yandere-chan having more places in her own home would be the most enjoyable in my opinion. A backyard would be a cool feature to bury bodies, or pick flowers to give to people and get reputation points. Or maybe give her a kitchen so she can cook treats to give people for even more points (and add "special" ingredients if needed). These are just ideas though, and I don't expect anyone to go through with these. I'm not the one making it after all. Either way, I can't wait to see what's in store for the next build!

  • Alexis - 9 years ago

An open world might be a bit over doing. I think you should add some little things
(Idea 1) Like maybe sneaking into senpai's house would be pretty fun and cool to do. You could steal stuff from him, take pictures and maybe even figure out if some girl likes him. You can even make Senpai easily wakeable, so you have to be extra careful walking around.

(Idea 2) Since we have a reputation bar, you should have some houses for some of the other school characters. Not all of them, but for certain characters who stand out (like the black and pink girl). You could visit their house to ask for favors, help them do homework to build rep, see if this person knows of a person who likes senpai and if you're very sneaky, you could even kill them in their home! But, you gotta be sneaky...

(Idea 3) If we had like a shop or something, we could buy little extra or bonus. We would get money from helping students with homework or such and we could be little things like a senpai plushie or a yandera chan photo of herself.
We could even have them sell little unsuspecting murder weapons, like some rope or something.

(Idea 4) We could expand on Yandere-chan's own home! We can add things like a kitchen to cook lunches for students (which would earn you rep and you could even poison them), have a living room to read books about romance or how-to's (because Yandere-chan is just a beginner) and maybe a bonus room/bigger shrine of senpai. We could invite students over to build rep, knock out/kill them or just talk to them to hesr rumors.

Maybe a little forest where could hide bodies up to a certain amount of days would be nice and maybe we could have a house for our little news reporter friend. We could get tips on yanderes and panty shotting if we're having trouble.

That's all the ideas I got. (A good feature I think would be cool to see would be customizing senpai's personialty. With different ones, we get different reactions. Like if he's cool and collected, he won't notice you so quickly, but he would have a short fuse so he would go off at small things like you touching him for no reason or something like that. And when we beat the game (if there's an end at all), we could reply it and have the roles switched up a bit. You woud be a senpai to your own yandere. Just a little bouns for maybe doing everything. ^-^

Can't wait for the game!! \^-^/

  • Katsumi-chan - 9 years ago

I think you should do this! Sure it asks for a lot more free volunteers and a lot of donations but it will be worth it , or att least I think so. You could even set specific houses for the students so yandere-chan can find out more about her victims. I don't think the town needs to be too big but maybe just have a village with a few shops, a park and a few houses for Yandere-chan and her rivals to live in.

I also think that if you perhaps make a train station you can make a multiplayer mode just for the fun of it. A multiplayer mode could get very interesting but could be difficult to code so I understand if you don't have the time to.

Either way, best of luck with the game development!

  • Becca - 9 years ago

I'm sure a lot of us are willing to donate as much as we can to this amazing game. I think the Yandere Simulator doesn't need THAT much open space. What I suggest is a route to Senpai's house and a route to your rival's house so you can stalk them for information or something that would benefit Yandere-chan. Stealing stuff from Senpai's house would be fun, obviously though, Yandere-chan shouldn't get caught. I think a fun gameplay mechanic like stealing from him and then returning it to him by making up a believable lie can make Senpai like Yandere-chan more and suspect her less of being a murderer, and maybe develop a crush on her over time like she wants. For the rival, stalking them at home would benefit if we saw the rival do something that's considered a deep secret to her and other students should not find out about it (kinda like the eavesdropping mechanic over lunch time). A homicide should also be able to take place at the rival's house.
Also, maybe add a convenient store where Yandere-chan could buy some easy weapons like razors, box cutters etc. instead of having them throughout the school if not already provided in a classroom. She could also buy some manga, like you mentioned before in a video, so she could act a certain way to students for her own benefits. Maybe you could also order things from the shop. Now that I think about it, what if Info-chan's family ran the shop? It'd be much easier to by drugs or weapons from the store or order them online from her computer without being questioned. There could also be a way for Yandere-chan to earn some money so she can buy those things, but that's totally up to you.

Anyways, those are just some of my ideas. I'm willing to wait as long as it takes for this game to be released, so take your time and perfect this amazing game :D

  • Mia - 9 years ago

An igen World with more things to do is a great idea! Maybe the students could live there so Yandere-Chan could stalk Them and ruin Them maybe find another they could date. An idea is that yandere-Chan could do i, stalk Them until they Are alone in their own House and do something, steal from Them or something Like that even yandere-Chan could Do something Else there Will kill Them in their own home, or their family...
Yandere simulator could also about that kidnaping maybe torture or something Like that.. Get some info out of the Girl she kidnapped.

  • onorub - 9 years ago

If you want to add more environments, you should do so on a possible sequel, when you have gathered more experience from the creation of the first game. Think of it as how Batman Arkham City became open world after the developers got enough experience from Arkham Asylum.

  • Nagashi Edogawa - 9 years ago

Like much people said here, just make it like Persona, it will be great without have to spend lot of budget.
    Important places are :
Senpai's House (with little neighbourhood near it)
    Rival's House (same as above)
    Street (Shop, Restaurant, etc)

And some other places like forest or beach could do. This all place should has a strategic place to stealth killing so it won't be just killing at school. That's all from me

  • Andar - 9 years ago

An open world approach could turn this into a very different kind of sandbox game, but I think that it could actually turn into something very cool. Your work so far shows incredible polish, even in these developmental stages. Even if it's not a fully open world, adding a bit of variety to the locations opens up a lot of interesting options. For example, trying to spend time with senpai outside of school. Other classmates can creep in on your pseudo date and try to ruin the experience. You can take revenge on them at a later date with your yandere ways...or opt to craft a victim persona and use that to appeal to senpai, perhaps even attempting a 'clean' runthrough where no one gets hurt...except for yandere-chan herself, but hey, as long as she gets to be with senpai in the end.

  • Katy - 9 years ago

As long as open world adds new features

  • rinshankouhai - 9 years ago

It's all well and good to ask the community for their opinion, but make sure you think long and hard about this issue yourself. It's true: If you keep to the current scope of the game, Yandere Sim will be little more than a somewhat charming little indie time-waster, regardless of how much effort you put into it. The single environment is just a little too limiting to give the game real longevity, and you might feel dissatisfied with the lessened impact this gives to your final labor of love.

However, as you laid out, an open world game would be extremely difficult and time-consuming to make. I believe you're capable of it with the hard work you've put forth thus far, but you would need to make certain you have adequate funding and support to make that happen. You have a remarkable income from Patreon already, but are there enough Yandere Sim fans with enough disposable income to take it to that next level? And most importantly, do you know what you would do with that open world once you made it? An open world with plenty of secrets and little extras to explore and play with would absolutely give your game FAR more personality and lasting depth; perhaps you could discover hidden weapons outside of school, or find out where Info-chan's secret lair is so you can visit her no-doubt creepy command center full of panty shots. With the option to examine things and see Yandere-chan's thoughts a little more, it could certainly give your game more lasting impact. If you think you're capable of this and can really make it mesh with the gameplay, then you should do it. But ONLY if you can make it mesh. Make sure it fits well with the existing gameplay and serves to enhance it, rather than just being there to be there. The town doesn't have to be huge; it could just be a small mountain village, like they often have in Japan, a main street on a big slope with a few shops to visit, a handful of houses you could stalk your classmates to, and maybe even a Shinto shrine up a huge set of stairs where you can beseech the gods, or talk to some kind of eccentric miko character.

Of course, if you want there to be more locations, but creating an entire open world would be a little much, you could always go the Persona 3 route and have it so that when you leave one area, you can select from some others on an overworld map. That way, you could still have some interesting areas; a little main street, the neighborhood with students' houses, the shrine, the beach where Info-chan is hiding, stuff like that. It would limit the opportunities for hiding easter eggs and secrets, but it might fit a little better with the scope of the game, and make it a little easier to make. That way you'll still have those extra areas with plenty of interest and maybe a few secrets, but you can limit how much modelling you'll have to do to make the open world believable. That might be the most feasible option, and fit better with what Yandere Sim already has.

Whatever you end up doing, I think it'd be wise to first make sure that the school section is all properly fleshed out and polished to your liking. That way, you can already have a 'complete' version of the game for those who just want the school experience, and you won't have to keep them waiting as long. Then you can build the extra features around that at whatever pace you like.

I'm really enjoying watching you build this one-of-a-kind game, and I hope whatever path you go down, you do well in it!

Also, please learn how to pronounce 'Yandere' correctly. It's in the title of your game, for god's sake.

  • Dylan - 9 years ago

I don't care if it's 2 more years to the release date. There are lots of other games out there, I can wait longer if it means a higher quality (or at least higher quality imo) game. If an open world is developed I think it would be interesting to implement a currency system in the game, with legal and illegal ways to gain money, along with legal and illegal items or services to purchase.

  • YunoGasaiButNotReallyHer - 9 years ago

Well, I am just an useless Gamer who can just wait for someone's marvellous job. So I don't think my comment will be noticed (Notice me Dev-sama!) But yeah, I will be happy if you read this

I think I have enough reading so many comments from others, and makes me think like........... 'which one is better' but finally I got a decision by choosing Yes

I understand it will cost so many funds, energy, etc. But, as you said, this game has so many potential within it. And it will makes me want to play this over and over. Even the Build has spent my time so much. I don't know what will happened to my lyf if this becomes an Open World Game. Because I really enjoy Open World. And also, in case of this game, this can make us do so many things we can't do at just school. Well, so many example, like stalking senpai/rival, killing in many variations, and just to make this game more beautiful. And also, a shop for weapons/potions/others. It will be more realistic if there is one, rather than now (I know it just a build, and you won't make it in the real one, but, yeah)

I don't know much about programming but one thing I know is that it is very difficult to make Open World, but, me, and everybody here, are supporting you to our heart's content. And if it takes longer time, we will be patient. Well, I can only wish the best luck for you (xD) and keep following the development of YanSim. Not much I can say here I am not much a commenter, so that's all. Thanks if you read this :v

  • Tarynne - 9 years ago

As much as I would love it to be an open-world game I think @Some guy has a good idea, much like Persona sires where you can only go to certain locations, say like in the video you just posted you mention doing things for favors, one area could be that purple hair girl's house, and you could get rid of her dad, making her owe her life to you and become a lackey.

Or even in Yandere-chan's own home add a living room/kitchen where you could drug those you invite over or make food (cookies chocolate) but have it poisoned and leave it in your rivals locker with a note saying it's from a certain crush (if another NPC has a crush on that rival) or a secret admirer when no one is around.

I think then it would still keep to what you have in mind but make the game more "open" as to what you might go for. Again what I have is just an idea nothing more, but I think adding certain places (ones of which maybe you could kill your rivals as they head home) would be really cool and make players come up with more ways to kill students like if they had an "accident" on their way too or from school.
That's all I can think of but I hope it helps.

  • Ghastly Boo - 9 years ago

I never thought of the open world concept when it came to this game, but seeing that game you played made me want Yandere Simulator to be open and have more environments. Yes it could take much more time and money, but I would honestly think that it would be more entertaining and make the game last a whole lot longer. I could wait a while longer for the games release, as long as the game is at the best standard it can possible be at.

  • Ataline - 9 years ago

I think that's a great idea, Yandere-Chan could stalk people, go home, murder in a forest, go to karaoke, to buy some clothes and to a coffee shop !
I actually want some stuffs in the town
    -People, not just student
    -bicycles
    -A karaoke
    -Coffee shop
    -H&M boutique
    -A beach

    Well I think that's all

  • SvajoneSheona - 9 years ago

I really do feel like a small open world environment would be beneficial to the game. Many other people have offered ideas that I agree with, so I won't add any more to that list. However, I think that you should release a school-only version of the game first. Then you can focus on the open world area and we wouldn't have to wait for a full product! I think this is the best possible compromise you can reach.

  • nyanwaffle - 9 years ago

It would be interesting if the game was set in a small town. Instead of going to her door and clicking "School", she could actually leave her house and head to school. This would give her a short amount of time to watch other students, allowing her to learn their routes and where they live. Even if she is unable to enter their houses, this would allow a new style of playing, where you can truly feel like a Yandere [Stalkstalkstalk]. Senpai has to have a house too doesn't he?
Adding a town would add a whole new RP type to the game, since players will be able to explore, possibly buy things from a small store, stalk senpai, stalk their rival, or look for items to help them. A broken bottle in an alley? Could be used for slicing a girls throat open. A needle on the ground [ew]? Could be put into your rivals lunch.
There are a lot of possibilities that will make the game much more fun for players and ensure a long playing time. You don't necessarily have to make an open world; it can just be a town with the school inside it.

  • RealityCheck - 9 years ago

NO to open world, and for those people who wants the open world, please clean your ears... He said, he needs a lot of funds = budget = money for that and you guys not even helping/donating.

  • Karan - 9 years ago

I think a open world would be best, as it would allow for more possibilities in the game. You'd be able stock students in their lives outside of school, commit murders outside as well, carry out more complicated murders, and experience a lot more. These just being a few broad examples. I'm sure people wouldn't mind waiting, volunteering, or give more funding if its for the quality of the game.

  • Cassus - 9 years ago

With the way Yandere Simulator is i would say that adding an open world element would be the most beneficial. Yandere-chan's goal is to eliminate competition and confess to Senpai. Being able to follow Senpai and other classmates home would be a very cool thing to be able to do. It would also open up other options that could be implemented in the future like breaking into homes to "investigate" classmates and introducing a legitimate stealth element into the game. It would also give you more options as to where to hide special weapons that you normally wouldn't find at the school.
However the amount of time and effort that would be required to make this a reality would make it quite difficult for a small team especially with limited funding. Crowd funding is an option that really needs to be considered.

  • Javelinia - 9 years ago

Would make since to make it open world, except probably with alot of different environments like a forest area like one could easily find in a place such as this. :3 it'd only allow more ways of doing things that especially you would probably of currently had not realized.

    Like:

    Stalking by hiding behind things,

Can probably trick someone in a forest or there's a group you follow or vise versa and you slowly attack them all,

Can hit someone with a tree branch and make it a weapon,

Can impale someone on a tree,

Break glass and slam somebody into it,

Break class and make it a weapon,

Using the environment as a weapon,

Can pounce on someone from a tree,

Can tie someone up to the environment,

    Can use the environment,

The environment can give bonuses or disadvantages depending on what it is and where it is,

Can hide bodies in ditches or bushes,

Can kidnap people easier and in multiple quantities,

Can cause a indirect kill like causing something heavy to fall on someone, or something else which makes that effect the environment,

You know, things like a yandere can do :3 these are just some ideas which come with the ideal of a open world.

I don't mind how long it takes for a game, the longer it takes 68% of the time actually makes it longer and better.

  • Juju - 9 years ago

I loved the open world idea, it's awesome! We could do lots and lots of things.
We could develop good reputation with the people in the city, and if the police suspects Yandere-chan the people could try to protect her.
    You're awesome!

  • Bare - 9 years ago

I think making it open world would add a ton more ways to kill people.

  • AquaBlueit - 9 years ago

Yandere Sim is a great game! I belive it should be an open world game, but add more ways to kill the people, and stealth. It would be great to make it an open world, but it HAS to add more stealth and ways to kill people if you do add it. I would like it either way, but it cant be going away from the original plot of killing your rival to get senpai.

  • Shona - 9 years ago

Having a town and making the game open-world would definitely make it more fun, but don't go overboard with the idea. Instead of having a town as big as Natsuiro High School, make it so theres only a few shops where Yandere-chan could possibly buy more weapons or other things. Maybe Yandere-chan could visit a rivals house in the town if she becomes good enough friends with her?? Just an idea though. Perhaps after school some rivals could be spotted in town and Yandere-chan could continue murdering/taking panty-shots there.

  • Daniel - 9 years ago

I like the idea of a open world but i think you can add a map that auto travel insted of going around.

  • Unravel - 9 years ago

I think, YES, Yandere Simulator should be an open world! I love this game! And I love Open worlds, what else? Yes yes and big yes! Open world!

  • gasai yuno - 9 years ago

pls dont make yandere sim open world game it is not necessary

  • Some guy - 9 years ago

I think a good compromise would be having an area select screen similar to persona 4. with a lot of smaller areas you can visit. It would expand the game significantly, but also cut down on the necessary resources it would require to make an entire open world..

  • Ida - 9 years ago

I don't think a complete open world would be worth it. Adding some explicit useful locations to which you can travel by map, such as a store, hospital, park, senpai's house etc might be useful, but I don't think it is necessary to build a town around them. It would only make everything more complicated in trying to find things and just waste time on moving between one locale to another.

  • Tomsie - 9 years ago

Yandere dev, as tempting as it is to expand upon ideas such as the theme, and the environment yandere sim takes place in, I think that your focus should not be on adding new areas to the game until you have nailed down how the game will be played, and all the game play features that come with it. Put thoughts of expanding the world aside until the game play exists in a finished state, so that we arrive at a fulfilling yandere experience which updates to give us new areas to stalk senpai and do away with rivals in, instead of a large world in which we have nothing to do.

Of course, if this was already your plan of action, we have nothing to worry about. I'm just sure most people would appreciate fulfilling game play before they would appreciate an open world.

It is a lovely idea, however, and It will be wonderful to see the game expand to that scope, Just keep it low on your priorities list.

  • transfer student - 9 years ago

When Yandere-chan is about to leave the school, she walks in to the 'pink zone' and automatically appears in her house.
At the pink zone, there should be an option 'follow the X student', where Yandere-chan automatycly appears at the 'X' front of the house. There she will be able to watch X via the windows, or come to the back yard. This way she will be able to learn about X's secrets.
It could be also fun to spend the study points on an 'Art' section. If Yandre-chan manages to steal the X's house key, she could make a copy, and then returns the original to X before X doesn't find out that he had lost his key.) This way Yandere-chan would be able to pick up some items, that would help her to use as evidence for a murder, or even commit a murder by her self.

  • BubblegumPatty - 9 years ago

While an open world would be awesome, considering your just a one man and a small handful of volunteers, an open world would be too much to tackle. More areas to visit besides Home and school would work, like shopping areas to buy stuff (Like Weapons otherwise unobtainable in school), and Generic hang out places to kill students outside of school. stuff like that.

  • Marlowe - 9 years ago

I think that having a small town outside the school could be used to stalk senpai/your victims more so you can either gain more items for your Senpai Shrine or learn more information about your rival so you can off them better (for example, if you have enough points invested in biology, and you learn they have a weaker leg, you can perhaps gain the ability to use this weakness to your advantage, or if they have a social weakness, such as them having a dislike for a classmate that could be used to gain a slight advantage for their reputation loss), but that's all just my opinion. Yandere sim is amazing, and if you choose to ignore this, then that's okay.

  • Kanaev - 9 years ago

This poll would kill the game. People want a bigger game, a town, but they don't understand the undertaking it requires. This game does not need a half baked town and to create a decent one is a task near to impossible for a small team. So it's better with no town.

Environments on the other hand sounds good. Like if Yandere-chan's class would go for an excursion into a museum. That would require only to create an inner environment for one building. And you can create an opportunities to kill in a place like museum. Or to think of other locations a school class can go to that are first off - indoors, for ease in creating the environment.

  • Epic_Lou - 9 years ago

At least start out with giving other options to leave the house, like a park to go to on the weekends, or a movie theater, ect. That could also give other optional places to kill people like in a small portable restroom, or while the lights are dim in the theater.

  • XxX_YandereFTW_XxX - 9 years ago

I like the idea of having a town, but don't make it Open-World. I like the fact that you can murder students at school, but maybe have so like you can buy items, use the items you buy for different ways to murder, gather information on your rival by sneaking into her house, and gather information on who Senpai likes. Also, maybe add First Person Mode, for the completed version of the game. My opinion, might be good, Cya later Yandere Dev.

  • Y1 of the Plebs - 9 years ago

I always feel that ambition is a good thing for any creator. If the dev thinks he'd like to expand the project than I'd pretty happily support a kick starter. Also, make more videos. I love your deadpan delivery and humor more than I like the feature previews. Also, I always wondered why it wasn't an option to track your rival to their living address and kill their dog. I mean, seriously. That's like, stalking 101.

  • OtakuSenseiHig - 9 years ago

the only reason i agreed with open world was because i thought of all the benefits of it. like a possible police or teacher chase , or the kids running from school getting caught only to be seen by others and having to escape, not to mention the possibility of yandere chan going to out to eat for something like ramen while getting information from info chan in person and such. randomly getting blackmail on the phone seems boring to me

  • Sniek - 9 years ago

I think the dev should focus on building a solid gameplay and make it the dev's uttermost priority. I don't see how making the enviroment larger contributes to the game at this state. For now, the dev should add as much gameplay mechanic to the game as possible. When the gameplay is at the state it should be, and the dev move on to program the rivals, maybe adding more enviroments to diversify the murder scenarios would be nice.

I vote the town and school social life because there are things that can be added to the game, So it's like different outfits, different weapons and different story path that creates different endings to the game

By the way, I think it shouldn't be a town but a city because there are certain buildings that can be seen in cities like Martial arts, to learn fighting skills to fight other bad people in the game like for example, Thieves in senpai's house and Rivals that are in the martial arts club

The Hotel, After a escape from the police, using a fake name and fake currency from info - chan

The shopping mall, to buy panties and outfits that can be used to make senpai notice in the right time

... In the video that led me here, you said something along the lines of wanting to make a game that WE (the fans) want... though... I still don't see any plans of adding a gender choice for the player... y'know... so the player could be a Yandere-kun... HMMMM? (You're still doing an awesome job, and as my name says, I'm just being really nitpicky. You don't exactly HAVE to add this feature. I'd love it if you did, though.)

Yandere Sim is not a life simulation game. It does not need a town or other features. I voted for compromise since it would be cool if there where shops across the street from the school where one could buy scissors or box cutters, a clothing shop to buy panties for power ups, and it would also be cool if there was a dark alley in which Yandere-chan could buy weed, or some other contraband, and place it in another girl's shoe locker to get her in trouble. Theses would require currency in Yan Sim, so Yandere-chan could be able to steal money from girl's lockers, bodies, or just have an allowance that Yandere-chan recieves from her mom every week. Maybe there should be a cafe nearby of which yandere-chan could stalk some girls into and listen to their conversations to gain information. I am for a small town across the street, but nothing too big. The town shouldn't contain anything unrelated to the current game.

it would be awesome to stalk your rival in search of things to down her reputation.. or to gather info to blackmail someone.. or even stalk senpai-kun and get things for your shrine...
visit info-chan to negociate things or get quests and info about the other students life outside the school.. idk.. maybe kidnapp them outside the school ? shop for ugrades and panties..

BUT.... i really think that you should finish the school area first.. AND THEN~ add more stuff..
