I voted for making an open world! Stalking senpai outside of school and picking up things he drops could add a collectible gameplay feature and the items could be displayed in the senpai shrine. You could also give the player the ability to enter their rival's home and find ways to destroy them. Also, stores that sell improvised weapons like in akiba strip!

I'd like to have a town BUT that doesn't mean you will need to extend the release date of it. You could continue making the game that you planned and then release it at the point where you are happy. Thats the v.1.0 then you can make updates such as the small town or other things such as new weapons or new ways to kill Yandere-chans rivals until you feel that the game is finished.

You should compromise and make just Yandere-chan's neighborhood, as suggested. Why would we need a whole open world? Only the school is relevant.
I voted for the addition of the small town. Here are some of my reasons:
First of all it is something you envisioned for Yandere Sim. I'm currently writing the story board for a visual novel I'd like to create, no matter how long it takes, and can empathize with the fact that you have a certain vision of how the game should look like while still taking the wishes of your fans, current testers and future players of Yandere Sim into consideration. It can be a hard act of balance, but I think if you work on something the way you think it should be, you gain a lot of motivation to do so, even if it might prove challenging. That will reflect on the quality of the game, even if the release date will be delayed.
Second reason would be that the town might be beneficial for the core mechanics that are implemented in Yandere Sim right now. You could include a mechanic where you have to actively dodge police officers which are called to school after a murder happened. Or maybe it will be possible to get rid of rivals not only on the school grounds, but also somewhere in town? Imagine you befriend the 'rival girl' in question just to lure her somewhere outside the school to get rid of her without the teachers noticing. For example pushing a not swimmer over the edge of a peer to drown in a lake or ocean, or something. The possibilities are countless.
Third reason would be that you could throw upgrades like different panties in shops in town rather than having all available at the start of the game. Or other upgrades like better tools for Yandere-Chan's studies to enhance learning points. Maybe she has to complete mid-term exams at some point and has to be at least decent to avoid any problems incoming from teachers? Or Yandere-Chan has the option to do something with her class mates to gain positive reputation? Like visiting the karaoke bar or socialize on other terms. Additions like these add a lot of depth to the game. Not only gameplay wise but also story wise. Which leads me to the third reason.
While it is definitely a good idea to focus on the aspect of the game to create as much unique ways to get rid of rivals as possible, I still think there has to be a little bit of story behind it. If Yandere-Chan has a deeper character to emphasize with, it might not only create possible ways to remove rivals from play without bloodshed, but also creates a deeper reason and understanding for Ya-Chans thoughts and actions. Having a town to play in will be beneficial to that. If, for example, you can socialize with other class mates to gain reputation and you come to like a certain girl that suddenly becomes a rival in love, Ya-Chan can consider if the girl should be killed for her greater goal or she likes her to much to think a way around the problem without to much bloodshed, depending on her inner conflict, which could weigh on her sanity as long as the conflict exists. Also it creates a form of authenticity and believability to the scenario of the game, which is beneficial in several ways.
In addition the actions the player make in school could also reflect on the town and the townsfolk. I think a murderer on the lose isn't only creating a bad atmosphere on the school grounds. Depending on how much of the news escapes to the public, of cause.
To sum things up:
There are a lot more examples and good reasons I'm able to come up with to be in favour of having the town in the game, but they don't fit in here, so these few important ones have to prove my point. The idea of the game itself is great, even as it is now. Still I think the extra addition will not only be nice to have for the players but will be important for the game and the way it affects the player. If it's also closer to your vision of what Yandere Sim could be, than it's a win-win situation to add the feature, even if it costs more time money and effort. Since a game in such detail is rare on PC it will also be a unique characteristic.

I don't see why people want open world so much. I understand it would be cool to be able to roam the town and do stupid shit, but at the same time you have to consider that it would take a loooot of effort to make it look at least O.K. The game is not even supposed to be a "high school life" simulator. It's supposed to be a cute high school girl killing rivals to be able to be with her senpai. I don't see why there should be an open world. What would you even do there that has anything to do with the point of the game? Eat dinner? Go play in a park? That's not what the game is about.
Saw someone suggest maybe a few environments for stalking people. This would probably be a good idea. For example 3 areas that repeat and alternate that are a rival's path home, there you can stalk her to find out where she lives and kidnap her along the way, but I still think that is a lot to ask for. Meanwhile other people saying how open world is a fucking excelent idea and it should be added. Think over your response before saying it.
To end it, I do not expect an open world, nor do I think that it is needed. It would be an extraordinary amount of work for one person to pull off and considering some people are saying that they cannot help the dev in any way and then go on to request features, this community does not even deserve so much attention.

The game really need more enviroments, but you don't need to build a small town, you can build Yandere's neighborhood. Few houses, an way to go walking to school , some extra npcs, someone selling weapons (or other stuff), student's parents, and these NPCs should make actions related to what happened with their children (crying, looking after the missing ones). And please try make the cops walk in the school and Yandere jump, when i play a game that my character does not jump the game seems to be incomplete (and some people like to run jumping)
Take your time to build the game.

While I voted for open world, I don't think you should add it just because we want it. I think that the world should somehow work towards expanding on Yandere Simulator's main goal: being a yandere simulator. I should be able to find special weapons in the open world, have special elimination techniques, be able to stalk people and sabotage their social life outside of school. Maybe there'll even be specific rivals who are only in the town. And, if there are quests, the rewards should somehow help you eliminate the rivals. Just because it's open world doesn't mean you can't have a singular goal.

If open world would be implemented, much must be changed for it to flow nicely and "be worth it", like the removal of a time limit and a more in depth character customization (i.e. the ability to buy new clothes and panties). Just the ability to stalk over a larger area will not be sufficient.
Compromise is the key. It would be great if you could just add a couple of after school activities, such as going to the mall or the beach (you can either overhear your rival talking to a friend about going places or befriend them enough yourself to be able to ask them out). Would be kinda cool if you could frame your rival for shoplifting or theft.
When it comes to voice acting, i dont really think its needed when it comes to direct conversations between the pc and someone else. That could mostly be controlled by text, but to overhear a conversation, on the other hand, is a bit different.
Mini-quests would be kinda cool as an effective way to increase reputation. One might be that a fellow student really want a new shirt, but cannot afford it, but penniless yandere-chan (the store wont allow panty shots as a valid currency) might get a five-finger discount if sly and cunning enough. If not, damage to reputation and banned from said store. A simpler one might be "help student X to study" or "confess to X in Y's place".

I can wait but I can't really help with the programming or funding part and that is why I chose the third option. But my main advice to focus on the objective of the game and, using the agile method (kinda like how you are working now), implement different environments in later when the complete requirements of the game is met.
The problem with open-air games is the dissapointment you feel when you find out that you can't interact with certain things you really wanted to interact with. One of the reasons why these things are not interactive could be that it is unnecessary and only used to enhance the features of the environment.

Compromise. Add different venues you can switch between, them unlocking each week. This would add variety to the world, and the difficulty of having to track down where Rival-Chan will be, and at what time.

I was reading the other comments, and I'm going to second what someone else said about incorporating a newspaper to detail how you killed a student. You wouldn't even have to do an open-world setting for that to work, just have it appear at the end of the day when the screen would fade to black. A big spinning newspaper would make its way into view with a headline explaining what atrocity had been committed that day.
This shit is ripped right out of Blood Money, but I mean, come on that was a big reason why that game was so replayable.

I think adding modular, self contained, environments is a better idea than making a whole open world myself. That way you'll don't need to make everything, just the interesting parts. ;)
It could also potentially help with future DLC. Say you made a summer fireworks festival DLC. You could add the village shrine & festival grounds as a new environment without having to have all made first. If you could also do something like make the environment free for everyone in a patch but you only get the festival content if you buy the DLC. That way everyone who plays Yandere Sim would have some benefits from the DLC, but it would add value to own it too.
Anyways, those are just my thoughts.

Having an open-world setting would not only add much more replayability to the game, but also serve to further what enjoyment could be sucked from each individual play. It would bring about not only a change of setting, but also an expansion of the concepts currently in play (such as using your skills from classes to assist in activities in the town).
Honestly though, you're opening a whole bag of worms here, dev. Because not only are you creating this town, but you're also filling it with enough content to justify its existence. This is the kind of thing that makes a game infinitely early-access, because the devs want to keep expanding and expanding without ever thinking of ending it. I voted for you to do it because I have faith you'll be able to steer this boat to its destination, but don't do it just because the votes tell you that you have to. Take the game in the direction you think it deserves to take.
Hey Dev! I think it would be both fun and realistic if the game took place in a small town. Here is why:
Yandere Simulator is a game about stalking and murdering, so you could do way more things in town.
You could buy, for example, gifts. What if Yandere-chan bought flowers, write her rival's name on it and put in someone's locker? Or write Senpai's name, asking her to meet Senpai at someplace, where Yandere-chan will be waiting to kill her (of course).
You could stalk your rival to discover with who she speaks the most when leaves the school, or leave something at her way to home. A love letter? A trap? What if you tell someone she wants to confess her feelings after school? What if she rejects him, he gets angry and gossip about her? (him reaction would be different according to who Yandere-chan sent)
And, of course, you could stalk Senpai. With who he speaks the most? Don't tell me he talks with that disgusting imouto all his way home. What if he dropped a book, or another apple for Yandere-chan's Senpai Shrine? Wait... What if Senpai Shrine is empty at the beginnin' of the game and THE PLAYER needs to collect Senpai's objects him/herself?! Waaait, what if the player won something at the end of the game if him/her collected ALL objects? Those objects would be at: his locker, his house, his way to home (if dropped), etc.
What if you overhead someone's conversation? A student and a non-student's conversation? Don't tell me someone dates a way-too-much-older person? That is a nice secret. It would be horrible if someone told EVERYONE about it. Unless - of course - that student do a favor for Yandere-chan. Like distracting the nurse so we can pick up the syringe and/or the tranquilizer, distracting students so we can get rid of a body or suspect things, and everything you probably already thought.
And you told us about another rival who would be yandere too. What if she stalk us in our way home? Creepy... What if we get caught?
It could make murdering outside school harder, I know, with police and all. So the player would be careful and learn how to murder and get away with that murder in both places.
It WILL and NEEDS to take time. The final version WILL delay. But who cares? I want to stalk Senpai all his way home, walk through the town, kill in a thousand different ways, inside and outside school. I would totally buy a game like that.

I think that to minimize having to make a house for EVERY student have some living in dormitorys. Also i think that a bit of randomness should be introduced into schedules of the students so that every day doesn't turn into the same predictable grind.

I think the game should take place in a town , i have more advice there , i think you can build a house yo let the students live , than there will be more way to murder , maybe hold the dead body in the house and find a time to ...... Ok than , and i think students cam have a lunch outside , or some student have a lunch in school , when the school are not many students , we can murder and handle the dead body more easy , I hope my advices helps.

Having a full on open world could be interesting. I like exploring those and having fun around, but it also seems a bit redundant for this kind of game, no? Sometimes it's a little overwhelming, as well. It depends on the kind of genre. However, I can't say that it wouldn't work with full accuracy, really.
I think compromising would be an ideal middle with quality over quantity.

i think it will be really good to have a open world feature for yensim. I dont care if it will delay the release date, I just need a really fun game (althougth it has already very good). Then, I have a little problem. Will yenSim have a complete story line or just "free style" killing. In my opinion, people may get bored very quickly after murdered several girls. A story line can push the player to contiune the game. Maybe very girls have a different background story? So they can only be killed by certain way. For example, one girl is always very positive, you cant just throw her from the top of the building because no one will believe she will suicide and the police will find out it is a murder by finding evidences such as maybe finger print on the letter. That is only my advice.

Would be great if there's an opportunity to stalk senpai/rivals when they are at home, this can make the game a lot more immersive if done properly.
I prefer an open world structure, but it really depends on how much more polished the game can be by compromising this feature.
For your information, the concept of this game is so attractive that I am willing to pay ~US$40 for it.

Make sure you have enough content for the open world towards the goal of eliminating the rival, improving Yandere-chan's stats, learning new info on students, having various things to do in the town to improve reputation, stuff like that...

i personally the game should be more focused, and keep it mostly to high school murder life, making sure it's doing my what it does do really well instead of only being okay at a lot of things. But, I like the idea of occasional environments. Perhaps it could function like the "meet me @" notes, saying you wanna see someone at the arcade or whatever and have a new set of challenges and tools to work around if you want to kill them.
There seems to be an overwhelming hope for open world, though, to which I say, only if there are benefits! Being able to stalk other kids (and senpai) as walk home from school would be neat!

I think Yandere sim could benefit a lot from becoming a more immersive open world, especially if it gives you the option to play the part of Yandere outside the school environment, run side quests for students to gain certain rewards.
Possible rewards could be things like; reputation for helping popular students, tutoring from smart or athletic students, or even damaging the reputation of other students by doing quests for delinquents.) it's fun to think about the possibilities of interacting with other students as well as killing them. If every student has a life or something they could conceivably contribute then it would make selecting your victims a much more srategic process than simply: "They are in my way, KILL!" and more like: "They are in my way, but can I benefit more by letting them live just a little bit longer?"
A more open world would also give you a great opportunity to add a day/night cycle to the game, stalk sempai/targets to a greater degree, and even plan out intricate home-invasion schemes. You know the house will be empty at this time (or you can call one of them out to a meeting to make the house empty) and use that as an opportunity to sneak in. Or, you could take a risk and try entering while everyone is asleep.
Possible reasons for home invasion: Gathering information, steal panties, planting surveillance bugs (make future home invasions easier as long as you hide them well) poisoning medication or food, or just setting up an ambush so you can abduct them.

I think that an open world game would be too much to add and while it would probably be more fun I just don't see you being able to do it, I think you should add things you can go to from your door or the school gates like senpai's house or maybe add a town cafe that all the students go to after school and you can choose to go, also maybe your rivals house but would open world be worth it if you can't go in every building? Maybe you can just add a street where everyone lives including yourself and there are social hangout spots and maybe an arcade to play mini games?

I think having a small open world would add quite a lot to yandere Sim for example: having to leave your house in the middle of the night and braking into the school to retrieve your victim and having to take them home without being seen or recognized would add alot to tension and fun to the game and would lose something if you were just told what happened, furthermore I really liked one Key concept YandereDev brought up, I idea of the school being like a slice of life anime to begin with but if Yandere-chan begins killing the school's atmosphere gradually becomes darker like something out of a horror/silent hill game, so what if the small town did the same ? the town starts off happy and cheerful the shopkeepers and townsfolk are talkative but as yandere-chan begins killing the town becomes bleak and desolate the shop prices would increase and there would be police officers on patrol making murder harder to get away with.

I feel it´s very important to have other places than school to work with. otherwise, it doesn´t feel realistic, which is something that most other aspects of the game is going for. an open world isn´t nescesary, but a school girl has more options than killing at school and preparing at school, and most people have personal lives, including your potential rivals. I suggest having maybe a shopping centre as a hub for different shops with different in-game purposes. if not that, I think at least an ability to go to different places from the menu at the door should be in there as an important part of the game. these are just my opinions though. do with them as you´d like.

You should make the yandere simulator with school as Base Game, while if you ever decided to make an open-world game as an Expansion Game. an example yandere neighbourhood map as expansion 1, yandere shopping area as expansion 2 etc.. this is basically my opinion really. rather than compiling all in once, for players who want only play the Base game or who likes to add Expansion game kinda like playing The Sims with Expansion Game.
For Jumping like the one video you show earlier, i don't think its necessary but i could probably get an idea using it to access to steal photo from outside window just to capture Senpai Photo (Stalker mode) or overhear conversation??. Sliding is an interesting idea BUT remember yandere-chan is wearing a skirt unless she wear gym outfits or wear gym trouser under her skirt.
Need fat students npc, students asking favor? (possible), there should be some alley in school? or like a space between two buidings where deliquents usually hang out. For Saturday and Sunday make it yandere mc go to Expansion Area (if possible follow Senpai to shopping area?? in case if he got hit(flirt) by girls from other school)
The video you show earlier (Natsuiro High School) kinda reminds me of playing Persona Games.
So yea you should separate the yandere simulator to Base, expansion 1, expansion 2 etc...

Maybe you could save the town for a post-release thing? Do a DLC sort of set-up, I mean. You could use money from the game to get town-stuff going, and, hell, I'd spend 5-15 bucks to add a small town to Yandere Sim.

Honestly, I believe that Yandere Simulator should be an "open-closed world," where you are able to roam but certain events can happen at the right timing. Like, let's say, if you were to eavesdrop on a conversation , disliked/liked what you heard/heard a time and place, you could go there and set up a plan/sabotage a get-together/set up people. Also, you could make it so Yandere-chan has to work to obtain the panties, the prices varying according to ability and/or style. And in order for Yandere-chan to do said job, the player must control the situation at hand. This would also allow Yandere-chan to be able to buy her own materials and to "come to a conclusion" outside of school. It's Yandere SImulator, not Yandere High School, allow it to be more open, but not too open. Have people from the high school have a life outside that you can sabotage. Have more to where you could meet your Senpai, and it not seem to strange, just a coincidence.

I would love to see Yandere Sim become more open world, however it would have to be to a much lesser degree than the example game. Yandere Chan is no social butterfly as far as the game is set up currently, and the strength of an open world enviroment in this type of game (I can only imagine as a non-dev currently) would be built around side quests, further stat, skill or "social link" style character/relationship building, mini-games, collectables, unique kills (I thought about all the enviromental hazards you can use and interesting new dumping methods like an anime Hitman), ect. However, for this game with such a simple premise to be expanded to a full on open world it could be too much on you to do and could damage the game for being too big for the concept, no matter how much I would love to see Yandere Chan freely roam the streets and become a much more diverse game than originally intended. Sure you can have a giant open world, but with the game being built around staying at the school as a murderous sociopath there's only so much you can do. I thought about it in the way Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was open world, where you can explore the surprisingly huge and detailed hub world but can do pretty much nothing with it but look at the pointless scenic vistas. Yandere Chan would have to be almost completely different in terms of interaction in order to make an open world seem necessary, so a complete overhaul of the mechanics would basically be a necessity, like going on dates or something akin to that (which is something you've previously stated you don't want this game to be.)
I'm going with the compromise choice, for now at the very least, because another commenter on here had a really good idea I wanted to expand upon: Much like Persona 3 and 4, a hub world with new environments such as a Shopping Mall to buy new weapons or clothing, build stats after school, have mini-games or side quests, have incredibly fun interactables in the enviroment to kill your rivals, or gather intelligence from stalking Senpai or other students would be an incredibly fun way to have open world elements without having to change the core gameplay style as drastically and still feel natural to the original premise.
I would volunteer to help make the game since I desperately want to get into game development, but I have basically no experience in the field so I'd have to be taught everything from scratch. Hopefully I'll be have the skills to help develop Yandere Sim 2: Yandere Harder, but for now all I can do to support is give my 2 cents.

I don't think a such open world will really improve the game, unless the town offer some new and interresting features more than "stalking senpai" or "kill rivals out of school". but the idea of the hill is great, and it make me think of something : what about a "school neighbourhood" with cool stuff like an abandonned building, a river with a bridge, school facility, club locals like cooking room (so much possibility to kill someone in a kichen, i would like so much to sabotate an oven !), computer room where you can log in with one of your rival ID (if you manage to found it) and go to forbidden web site so she get expel. also it coul be great to sneak inside the school at night to built some more "elaborate" trap or turn the innocent ghost hunt of your rival into bloodbath ! yeah, instead of an open city, a think that a bigger school with other stuff around could be better. here a last thing i want to say : your work is GREAT ! I always hungrily wait for your videos, the sad thing is...... I can't play your game, my computer is shitty as hell, I must wait to have a better one. I WANT TO PLAY YANDERE SIMULATOR DAMMIT !

It's your passion project, so ultimately you should do what you feel is right. That said, my suggestion would be for you to focus first on adding as much detail, interactivity, and variety within that limited school environment. At some point, possibly even post release, you could add outside events, stalking senpai on dates (whether you sabotage the date or flat out kill the girl could be different options) or school trips that could introduce varied challenges and gameplay options, like festivals with large crowds and fireworks to hide noise, beaches with open lines of sight but lots of ways to "accidentally" die (and m...miszugi), and so on.

+Yandere Dev I like the idea, but would the open world be part of the main objective to kill senpai's admirers? OIr would it just be an added mini game to keep us entertained? If you could make it so that you followed senpai home, avoid being seen when kidnapping a girl in the music box, killing girls outside of school that would be worth the wait, if its to do random things that dont link to the main mission i dont think its worth it.
Maybe that could be another game you make after, an extension perhaps.
For now i am happy with how yandere simulator is progressing with the stealth kills and npc interaction.

You could add more locations and make them travel based such as the basement or when you go from your room to your school. Instead of when the school finishes you go to sleep add a sleep option so the player decides when the day is over, and if they want to travel to the beach, club, etc. Stalking senpai could help to hint out the locations he will be, or other npcs.

The problem is you would have to make it a "living" open world like GTA5, where it seems like every person have a routine and a individual life. Otherwise would fall flat on it self, yes open world means more locations, but if they are dead (or npc just stands/walks around aimlessly) it looses its meaning.
I would say you should make school-"event" based hubs, that present a different environment at the same location (sports day, school festival, maybe even a field trip to the forest if you wanna go beyond).
Think like the Hitman games, where you have a open map but still a very closed up eco-system for your npc to walk around.
By the nature of you game (the day mechanics) it seems like such system would benefit greatly for the gameplay, the day before the schoolplay you can set up some heavy sandbags where you know your target gonna perform during the big night and that way plan ahead to create more "secure" takedowns if you prep and coordinate for the right moment.

Whilst I think an open world yan-simple would be awesome I think that just adding more environments I. E. Beach, bathhouse etc would more than likely be best. Also if you ever want a volunteer to make some building models and such i'd be more happy to help (I'm currently studies games development)

I think it could be a cool addition as long as you dont loose sight in the original goal (the school stealth murder game) it could a good idea for a mini game aspect like jobs shops and stuff.
But the most important thing is that you dont bite off more then you can handle!

Damn, people sure are damn greedy, remember guys, this is ONE man doing this and if he were to get a team of people, coordinating them is even harder then working alone.(Let alone the drama) I've seen a team of game devs fight over each other for what they want, ONLY ending up them leaving the project in the dust.
Stick with something simple and go with school THEN expand to something more. Start small before going big just in case shit hits the fan.
I would like to see more areas but I think a a town is a little bit too much. I can't imagine how the town would work game play wise. I think the best thing you could do would be make the school larger add base ball pitchs and tennis fields(not sure what they are called.) music rooms so you could steal the instrument cases yourself for when you are kidnapping a student and many other things you would find at school, like clubs which students went to after school it would make the school feel more like a school. And as long as you make the school large enough there won't be a need for a outside town since the school will have so many things you can do in it.
And I don't know how a out side town would work. I guess you could follow students and get dirt on them which you can use for spreading rumours, or the NPCs actually run to a police station in the town to tell them about the murder. Other than that I can't imagine how the town would be useful game play wise. The only reason I think anyone would go there would be to just explore it and look around once, and then they would never go there again. I mean it doesn't change anything game play wise it won't help you kill students unless there are areas you can dump bodies like a forest where you use school equipment which you stole or have info chan put a shovel there so you can dig up the ground and bury the body or bodies. And I can't imagine how you would drag a dead body thought the city with out anyone seeing you.
TL;DR Just make the school bigger and you won't need a out side town. And what purpose would the town have? Most people would only explore it once and never go back if it didn't help you kill students or get dirt on students.

Having an open-world Yandere Sim might be cool, but I really don't think it's possible. Main problem I see is that I doubt it's easy to get enough money to actually make it happen. But that's not the only concern I have. I'll make a list of pros and cons:
+ Open-world game means a lot of freedom and fun, which increases replayability (well duh).
+ Having an opportunity to actually stalk senpai all the way is pretty cool.
+ Tons of ways to improve the killing experience, by adding, for example, teahouses for dates, or for Yandere-chan to work there, earn money and poison visitors...
- Problems with original concept. Roaming in the street and trying to kill anyone isn't really the way of Yandere for my taste. Also there will be problems with grown-up people, who'll be just impossible to kill, which will force you to level up Physical Education all the time and forget about other stats.
- Open-world can be boring if there's nothing to do aside from killing everyone, so it's take another thousands of hours to make it more than a few cardboard boxes with textures and some people walking the same route every day.
- Open-world game perhaps is too ambitous for a small game developer like you (no offense, Yandere-dev senpai). Even if you get enough funds, the development can take almost forever and actually collapse under the weight of it's own ambitions.
That's all I can come up with at the moment, but I believe those cons are way stronger than pros. So I'd say I would like to see the game still set mainly in the school, but the school itself should become much bigger and interesting (though I'm pretty sure that's in the future plans already). And about variety... How about making a couple more locations for special events, connected with the school life? Like becoming a friends with a rival and a couple of more people (like really bffs) and going on a tour in the forest on a weekend, only to throw them over a cliff or drown in the river. Or perhaps, some school tour to a museum with lots of samurai weapons and stuff...
So, what I'm trying to say is, it's possible to improve the variety without making the game open-world. In my opinion, it would be best to concentrate on school, making it a great place to explore, and if you want to add more locations - well, add them as a separate locations, which can be also done even after the release of the game as an expansion. It'll be much easier thing to do. So that's why I voted for a compromise.
Hope you'll read this, Yandere-dev senpai, and perhaps consider at least a thing or two from what I said. Anyway, best of luck with the development of the game, I always wait for a new build and really wish to see Yandere Sim on Kickstarter and Steam some day.

i would defiantly go to the choice of other environments rather than just the school cause honestly it can get a bit boring after a while, it doesn't have to be a full open world. i can help with modeling different hair styles long or short hair, instead of the vocaloid hairstyles, cause honestly... those hair styles might not help the game much.... that is just my own opinion you don't need to take it seriously ^^"
i can do some simple clothing like gloves, scarfs, simple dresses (can do shoes T^T) if there will be other people in the game rather than students and teachers, maybe parents of some of the victims? senpai's parents maybe?! i don't know really...

While an open world game would definitely be more fun, it's way too much to ask of you. I think compromising with a few more areas would be just fine, such as Yandere-chan's house, a bigger school with more clubrooms, maybe senpai's or the rival's house and another generic area where Yandere-chan can stalk and kill her victims, perhaps a mall, a park or maybe even a shrine.
You don't want to wait too long with development and have people get bored or tired of waiting and stop supporting the project. Perhaps after releasing the game, seeing how well it does and getting some actual gameplay feedback you can revisit the open world idea, perhaps as a sequel, or maybe you could do several areas and release them as DLCs, so people would also get a choice on how big they want their world to be (people who like stalking their victims might prefer mall-like areas or maybe even something like a park or a forest, others might like the school just fine but with all the different clubs and maybe more school events, maybe a police station or hospital so Yandere-chan can get one last chance to clean up any loose ends).
I think more areas would be great but the core mechanic must still be present. This is a game of stalking, blackmailing, killing and ruining someone else's life, not to see the sights, and any new game areas and mechanics should be made to support that core, so before making a new area maybe ask yourself "How can Yandere-chan use this area to her advantage for her plans?"

Personally I would love the addition of side quests as a way to help boost reputation. Also the amount of unique character models in this game I found to be pretty cool, and wonder if YanSim could also have more diverse-looking students and characters.
As far as the small town open world goes, that could be a bunch of fun and would certainly add more things to do in the game. Maybe even a full day-night cycle, so maybe you could explore the town at nighttime, break into school or sneak into Senpai's house and watch him sleep or something. xD

Well, i do want the game become a open-world game, but make it for necessity stuffs. For example, since the weapons in the yandere sim is right in front of the gate, it looks weird. You could make a weapon storage/shops. I dunno what do you think about it but creating a small town is a good idea, we can stalk the rival and blackmail her, we can stalk senpai, we can kill the students outside the school property, and of course you should create that sliding function for taking pantyshots. This is just my opinion, everyone's opinion is different, but if you agree then that's cool.

I think the game would benefit from a small town. Sure, it's fun to murder people at school (and if done right, the game will still heavily focus on the same elements), but not being able to, for example, stalk senpai outside of school removes a bit of Yandere-chan's character. Furthermore, I think murdering people outside of school is an interesting idea as well. Perhaps you could even break into others home to find things to blackmail them with.
I don't think the game needs to be 100% open world though. Load zones between areas is perfectly fine, as long as NPC characters use them as well. For example, if I stalk senpai going to the park for example and there's a loading zone between the park and school, I'd like it if senpai seamlessly walked from the school load zone into the park load zone and not teleport to his destination when I arrive at the park.
This would also remove the limiting feelings of the game, such as "only one murder on the school roof before they close it off". If the game was open world (or with more locations), I'd also have more options of where and when I want to kill someone.
This also opens up for new gameplay, such as part time jobs, stores and such (perhaps different students have different part time jobs that Yandere-chan can use to her advantage). Perhaps some more underground activities, where Yandere-chan could steal panties from girls and sell them on the black market. Could perhaps also be used to blackmail the girls, by giving out their personal information with the panties so they'll get unpleasant visitors or a negative reputation due to rumors.
I understand this will take a lot of effort to pull off though. Not only would the students need to have believable AI behavior outside of school, a lot of different new NPCs would also have to exist (such as police, adults and etc). Perhaps even vehicles could be added. The amount of work this would take is quite huge actually, but I think it would be a positive thing for the game. I'd still be happy with a school only game, but it would definitely gain a lot from being a open world game.

If you make Yandere Simulator an open world game you might add several stats of how certain people think about Yandere-chan and therefore different types of semi-random actions. Maybe there could be rarely other Yanderes that might consider you the rival? Maybe there could be certain groups of friends Yandere-chan might get that have different character traits (thugs, gossip scenes, idols and so on), so they might eventually help Yandere-chan or do other positive stuff. Maybe you'd be able to make the rival your frined and then betray her (for example killing her at your home). Then you would have to not reset progress after each day. There also could be a difficult way to get weapons. For example joining a fight club to get access to the Katana or similar. I hope any of those ideas might help you.

DEFINATLY use a middle ground. Maybe add things like a shop to buy new murder weapons and other students houses. Perhaps a park and other attractions to open up stalking options. This game is about yandere trying to kill her competition. The more features and places to do that, the better. However, I fell that an open world game would overwhelm both you in making it and the players when they explore it. A good middle ground with locations you can take a bus to or somehting would probably be best for everyone.

I think it should be an open world despite funding problems and a delayed game because there would be way more options and stuff to do, like buying things and stalking your rival outside of school. Plus there would be more places and ways to kill people, and maybe there would also be a way to earn money to buy stuff. But hey, don't feel pressured, they're just suggestions. :)

I think that the game should at least have another environment, so not necessarily an open world. I believe you should have other locations you can transport to in order to create more opportunities for yandere. She'd have more opportunities to stalk students (including senpai) and learn their secrets. You can create more events for characters (e.g. stalk people on dates, go to parties if you have high reputation and poison someone...). What I would really like nonetheless are more areas in the school to visit (cafeteria, library, swimming pool are some examples). Of course these are only suggestions and I understand how complex it can be. To put it simply, I think this will just make the game more enjoyable to play c:
Perhaps you could do a happy medium? I've recently been playing Persona 4 Golden and you can hop between different locations e.g. towns for shopping but they're only a couple of screens long before you're stopped by something. When you leave home or school you're given the option of visiting a selection of places while taking part in quests which are being added as time passes. They're not massive areas but require thought to actually complete them and may require you to visit a few different places and collect things from there before you're able to finish that quest, in your case it may take some time to visit various areas in town to gather things/information for a successful murder.
I think creating open world would be too much work even thought that would be very nice. So, instead you could make some mini areas which could be accessed under certain circumstances. But before that I would prefer you focusing on the game as it is, like adding the options to bully and frame someone. And I don't think that closed world game is boring, so far Yandere Simulator has been very interesting and fun game and it's just the beginning!

I think the game should be something in between.You shouldn't make Yandere Simulator an fully open-world game like ''Natsuiro High School'' but it shouldn't be placed just in school environment.If you expand the environment too much, the game won't be so focused on school and its original goals;eliminating students to get noticed by senpai.Also,if the game is just placed in school it will easily get kind of boring.My opinion is that you should create a small,small place around the school which Yandere-chan could use for her original goals.

I believe the right course of action would be a fully playable game inside the school only, and once that's done the add the town and the open world mechanics.
It would be a development in two stages, and when you release the game you will have more funds from the people who bought it already.

If Yandere Simulator gets an open world game you might also add non-school-days to the game and let things not only happen at the school, kind of similar to Assassins Creed.
Then just a questline or storyline and more killing (or similar) features are missing. I guess that would be a great idea. Keep on the good work :D
Also I'm not really sure how you're programming things like drowning, but wouldn't it be possible in an open world game to identify a certain place as water, so Yandere-chan can drown others in there?
You would need to write a single class about drowning and then just indentify several places this way.
At least in Java this is possible.

I vote for between compromise and open world. The areas you add out side of school doesn't have to be big. Like for example just add 4 some what long streets, where one streets leads to yandere chans house, second being senpai's house, third and fourth be rivals house. and on those streets add a few house, restraunts, stores, etc.
I think it would be interesting to stalk Senpai in a small village. Yandere-chan could be able to go to Senpais home and collect objects for her shrine. Also, wouldn't it make more sense to have a shop for weapons instead of leaving them in the school? If it was in real life anyone could see the weapons. You could also have students follow you into the town, behind a shop or in an alleyway and murder them there. And if there was a small supermarket you could buy and poison food to give to students (you should have quite a lot of rep points). Maybe if there was shops you could buy items that are banned from school and place them in students objects, then tell the teachers pet about it and they'll tell a teacher, leaving a student expelled. Or you could take the item back leaving the teachers pet looking like a complete idiot.

Both an open world and new locations would be awesome but please don't overextend yourself and leave the game unfinished! Another thing is that open worlds can feel very deserted quickly if they're not filled to the brim with life (e.g. In the whole town you can access only 3 or so buildings and there are only a few npcs staning around the more important areas, making everything else uninteresting and an open world unnecessary). However, seeing what you have accomplished so far I'm positive that you can pull off an open world game. =)

I don't think Yandere Simulator should be open world exactly like "Natsuiro High School", because without proper planning, dedication to the workload, and tons of polish, open world games tends to feel empty when everything gets stretched out way too thin.
Rather, in my opinion, development should be focused on small individual set-pieces and then refining the features of the sandbox experience in each one, so the game doesn't get too stale.
For example, Yandere-chan's school would be one of a couple different places that she can visit throughout the game from her apartment, such as the local beach when summer vacation comes along, a ski resort during a school trip, or even inside a gigantic spaceship in the far reaches of the galaxy for whatever reason you can think of.
Though, the point is that new environments is easier to work with in chunks rather than connecting it all together, and it also breathes life into the game by introducing a good handful of radically different and interesting areas in which to play in without hampering the overarching goals of Yandere Simulator, which is to let the player innovate all the different strategies to get Senpai to notice them. Usually through the creative ways of stabbing everyone else.

Compromise/In between. Just as Yandere-chan, I don't think she would care about a town and exploring it. However, having more environments other than the school (a semi open-world), to be able to kill off people in other places, hide bodies so police discovery is delayed, and being able to stalk senpai, would be fun and would be more relevant and exciting. I honestly don't want this game to lose its original elements and the whole point of being a Yandere, but expanding it into a more diverse environment would help increase playtime and be more fun to play.

Add more areas smaller than the school, like 'senpai's house' or 'the high street' with a couple of shops and dark corners to kill people in maybe. As someone else suggested maybe 'this person's house' can be an area but all the houses could be templates of each other... And also I don't think that focusing only on the school would be boring at all! Only as extra areas if you feel they would add to the gameplay.

I love the idea of this game but I think that some small bits of areas that can be used to add feel to the game like a hardware store next to that shadey place that may sell weapons something like this may give the game life I'm not saying that having a street of stores is the right idea but place like a park then important stores can give the game space and give a bit of realism on how a teenage girl can get weapons like a knife or Katana onto the store I can understand the info-chan can get them
for you but what if you can make that choice and then use the points you would spend on the weapon on helping get rid of the evidence something like that can make it more playable then just simply asking for the weapon i may be off topic but having multiple small areas can give you more place to murder and trick others or set them up with each other like a park or something this can make it easier to make but give it the feel that it's connected. But these are just my believes on this so plz do not flame me to death.

Feature Creep kills a lot of games in production. Don't do it. At least not as part of the initial release. Do it as an expansion after the core game is finished to ensure that you have proper time to implement the town, give the core game your full attention, and give your fans more to look forward to after release

I am by both of them : do it an open world, but just to stalk Senpai looking in his window or killing more people from school , but I don't want Yanderee Simulator to become a game where you can just explore like a little lost girl :-(. The idea you grew is a very good one... So you can make a town with all , but some houses are studets' and maybe the shop is to buy gasoline and burn some houses down, or to buy some else things like drinks for reputation or to poison them, paper for notes in lockers, or things like that so that the game would look more real. I have some else ideas if you want to hear them keep reading.
Maybe Yanderee Chan's room to be a little bigger and she would give a slumber party (again for killing or reputation) and if you do the town she would be invited at slumber partys . Maybe more outfits for Yanderee Chan, in the dresser to be 2 sections , panties and clothes, in panties section are the panties you create and in the clothes section some more clothes and uniforms and stuff. And my final idea is that maybe Yanderee Chan should be asked on a date by another boy in school , and again the town, there should be a restaurant where to go , and if Yanderee Chan liked it she will do nothing to the boy, but if it's a desaster she will kill him ( the players choose to kill him or not and if they accept the date or not....)

To be honest i believe the better and quicker option would be to add specific checkpoints you can fast travel (like in Persona 3 and 4 games). To not make it boring, make the locations open as you progress the game and other locations open under specific circumstances like learning where the rival lives from Info-chan or stalking the rival to their house (maybe in a minigame fashion where you win if they dont spot you), Places could also open up by reaching the class level ups which lets you learn of new places to buy "things". I like the idea mentioned in the comments of having access to Senpais house to get stuff for the shrine probably from the place where they dump garbage.

I feel that you should make it an open world game as you will have so many more options in game play. i myself dont mind having to wait an extra 6 month to a year for a finished product with as much as you can put into the game :) remember a ps3 game called t"the last guardian?" that took 6+ years to come out and people are still as hyped for it as they were so long ago!! You do what you need to to make the game how you want it so you have no regrets :)

You see, I WOULD say "Yes, make a small town for Yandere Sim!" , but I do NOT want this game to fall into nothingness by non update from a dev that's to stressed to work on it. I'm not saying that it's not possible for you, and in fact, I personally think that you'll be able to pull in off, but I think you should work up to that amount. If it was up to me, I would finish all the plans for Yandere Sim FIRST, and have that as a finished product. Afterwards, the small town idea would be added either as additional content or a sequel. You still probably want to give it a chance, and I encourage that, but please give this idea a thought if things go south. I don't want you to forget this idea.

I have been following the game since you published the first videos and never tought about it geting boring if the enviroment Washington limited to the school.
I am ready to give funds in a crossfunding program or someting similar but im afraid it Would depend too much on its results (i can donante 50-100 e but no way 150000 so a lot of people should participate too)

The most important thing in this higschool lovely romantic story its the school enviroment. Instead an open world empty city i rather see a lively, huge highschool.

Dev, if you actually read the comments to this poll, please take time to read this one, too!
Dev-sama, I think the game should be open-world, for a few reasons that might strenghten gameplay.
First of all, what Yandere girl in her right mind wouldn't want to stalk Senpai outside of school?! You can have Yandere-chan go to his house and stalk him, maybe steal stuff for the shrine, that's up to you.
Second of all, why just stop at Senpai? Yandere-chan wouldn't mind if she stalks other students, especially her current rival. Kokona-chan talking to Senpai on the phone? Kill the b*tch tomorrow! As for the other students, maybe she could stalk them to obtain blackmail on them. For example: she could take nudes of the girls while they're in the shower and send them to Info-chan for favors or keep them to herself for blackmail (that's up to the player), however, they should be really hard to obtain, but they are worth a lot. For the boys, she should seduce them at school and ask them to stalk Senpai out of school, then report back to her the next day. Of course, the blackmail should be available for the boys, too. Or start a business like Info-chan, but only for girls (d*ck pics, anyone? xD) and recieve money for all sorts of things.
Another reason: changing hair styles on the spot is a bit... unrealistic. Maybe add a commercial square where there is a barber and Yandere-chan can change her hair style and hair color. Also, she could change her uniform at a boutique and buy spares from when they get stained with blood, maybe buy some accesories while she's there. It would be a fun idea for them to sell O.P. panties, but you have to complete quests to unlock them and then spend a lot of money to buy them (idk, silly idea). There should also be a craftstore when Yandere-chan can buy supplies for torturing her kidnapped victims, or shop for some weapons.
Another fun thing to add would be places where Yandere-chan would improve her skills and unlock new abilities. For example, go to the dojo and learn how to take down your victims without mopping blood afterwards. Or, if you skip class at school, take some extra classes after school to still earn study points.
But do you really want an actual reason, not just game suggestions? Okay, here it is: it would be BORING to just stay at school. I mean, think about it. Would it be fun to spend your whole life at a high school (I know Yandere-chan doesn't, but her room is just for changing panties, look at the shrine/corkboard and go to the basement/school)? No, but not just for the obvious, but because you wouldn't have the same options you would at home, someone else's house, the square, or just other buildings. I could list all of the things that you can do in the places listed above but can't at school, but now I only have 1304 characters left.
Long story short: Dev-sama, please make Yandere Simulator open world, not just for the reasons listed above, but for all the fans that voted "Yes" on the poll you created. We would gladly wait more for the game to be better and rank up to your and our expectations.

I have an idea:
Make Yandere's School a open world, so, as you said, move it in a hill with natural things and put more club and stuff. In this way players could join in a club and play some minigame (example: Club fish, fishing minigame, ecc), and by the way, i've a idea for a club good for the gameplay: Detective club.
Detective club try to collect evidence about yandere chan and her murders, every member of this club have "detective personality" and make photo if they see a death body or blood.

But think of gameplay it look fun when Yanchan sneak in Senpai house get something he "used" or Drill-hairchan house to get item for blackmail or "evident" for frame her as false-murderer.
Maybe Black-alley to do "something" with Drill-hairchan of trade something with Infochan.

I don't think it should be open world, purely with the amount of work involved. Many games to adapt the mechanism where you have a a map with a number of points of interest. Places like bathhouse, park, Shinto shrine, cafe can be used. Building a open world map , will only serve it purpose if you allow on much more extra function like , buying clothes, maybe some stuff to your room , change your haircut in a hair saloon, by food , or items that change your stats. Other than that you would also need to fin and manage a number of people , that may not be as involved as you or their vision may be different from yours , as a indi dev I advise on making the game simpler in features ,and building a larger fan base ,by having a good working product, instead of going to ambitious , and ending up like Johns Romero Daikatana. If Yandare Sim will be a great success , then there is nothing stopping you on expanding on the idea in Yandare Sim 2 . I just would hate to see you get annoyed with your own project because of the amount of work involved and potential problem with cooperating with a team of people . Similar to Bully it was great that you could go around the town and visit the carnival, but the best part of the game was the school , and interaction between the students. I think that even if the game was limited only to school building and house, but had a great interaction system, with the gossip, and reputation , and then more events like the girl telling her friend that she is being abused by her father (dont mean that I want more abuse , just NPCs talking with each other ) then it would be a great immersive experience for the player. Anyway I wish you good luck dev on your future endeavours, !

I don't mind if it take longer to release the final game. As long as it worth it.... I've been following the development of the game for a while now. and i think Yandere Simulator really have a good potential.
I voted for making an open world! Stalking senpai outside of school and picking up things he drops could add a collectible gameplay feature and the items could be displayed in the senpai shrine. You could also give the player the ability to enter their rival's home and find ways to destroy them. Also, stores that sell improvised weapons like in akiba strip!
I'd like to have a town BUT that doesn't mean you will need to extend the release date of it. You could continue making the game that you planned and then release it at the point where you are happy. Thats the v.1.0 then you can make updates such as the small town or other things such as new weapons or new ways to kill Yandere-chans rivals until you feel that the game is finished.
You should make game as planned. Then after release look into adding the town area as an expansion.
I think you should go with the original plan,but you can always change something within the school or even yandere-Chan's house.
You should compromise and make just Yandere-chan's neighborhood, as suggested. Why would we need a whole open world? Only the school is relevant.
I voted for the addition of the small town. Here are some of my reasons:
First of all it is something you envisioned for Yandere Sim. I'm currently writing the story board for a visual novel I'd like to create, no matter how long it takes, and can empathize with the fact that you have a certain vision of how the game should look like while still taking the wishes of your fans, current testers and future players of Yandere Sim into consideration. It can be a hard act of balance, but I think if you work on something the way you think it should be, you gain a lot of motivation to do so, even if it might prove challenging. That will reflect on the quality of the game, even if the release date will be delayed.
Second reason would be that the town might be beneficial for the core mechanics that are implemented in Yandere Sim right now. You could include a mechanic where you have to actively dodge police officers which are called to school after a murder happened. Or maybe it will be possible to get rid of rivals not only on the school grounds, but also somewhere in town? Imagine you befriend the 'rival girl' in question just to lure her somewhere outside the school to get rid of her without the teachers noticing. For example pushing a not swimmer over the edge of a peer to drown in a lake or ocean, or something. The possibilities are countless.
Third reason would be that you could throw upgrades like different panties in shops in town rather than having all available at the start of the game. Or other upgrades like better tools for Yandere-Chan's studies to enhance learning points. Maybe she has to complete mid-term exams at some point and has to be at least decent to avoid any problems incoming from teachers? Or Yandere-Chan has the option to do something with her class mates to gain positive reputation? Like visiting the karaoke bar or socialize on other terms. Additions like these add a lot of depth to the game. Not only gameplay wise but also story wise. Which leads me to the third reason.
While it is definitely a good idea to focus on the aspect of the game to create as much unique ways to get rid of rivals as possible, I still think there has to be a little bit of story behind it. If Yandere-Chan has a deeper character to emphasize with, it might not only create possible ways to remove rivals from play without bloodshed, but also creates a deeper reason and understanding for Ya-Chans thoughts and actions. Having a town to play in will be beneficial to that. If, for example, you can socialize with other class mates to gain reputation and you come to like a certain girl that suddenly becomes a rival in love, Ya-Chan can consider if the girl should be killed for her greater goal or she likes her to much to think a way around the problem without to much bloodshed, depending on her inner conflict, which could weigh on her sanity as long as the conflict exists. Also it creates a form of authenticity and believability to the scenario of the game, which is beneficial in several ways.
In addition the actions the player make in school could also reflect on the town and the townsfolk. I think a murderer on the lose isn't only creating a bad atmosphere on the school grounds. Depending on how much of the news escapes to the public, of cause.
To sum things up:
There are a lot more examples and good reasons I'm able to come up with to be in favour of having the town in the game, but they don't fit in here, so these few important ones have to prove my point. The idea of the game itself is great, even as it is now. Still I think the extra addition will not only be nice to have for the players but will be important for the game and the way it affects the player. If it's also closer to your vision of what Yandere Sim could be, than it's a win-win situation to add the feature, even if it costs more time money and effort. Since a game in such detail is rare on PC it will also be a unique characteristic.

I don't see why people want open world so much. I understand it would be cool to be able to roam the town and do stupid shit, but at the same time you have to consider that it would take a loooot of effort to make it look at least O.K. The game is not even supposed to be a "high school life" simulator. It's supposed to be a cute high school girl killing rivals to be able to be with her senpai. I don't see why there should be an open world. What would you even do there that has anything to do with the point of the game? Eat dinner? Go play in a park? That's not what the game is about.
Saw someone suggest maybe a few environments for stalking people. This would probably be a good idea. For example 3 areas that repeat and alternate that are a rival's path home, there you can stalk her to find out where she lives and kidnap her along the way, but I still think that is a lot to ask for. Meanwhile other people saying how open world is a fucking excelent idea and it should be added. Think over your response before saying it.
To end it, I do not expect an open world, nor do I think that it is needed. It would be an extraordinary amount of work for one person to pull off and considering some people are saying that they cannot help the dev in any way and then go on to request features, this community does not even deserve so much attention.
The game really need more enviroments, but you don't need to build a small town, you can build Yandere's neighborhood. Few houses, an way to go walking to school , some extra npcs, someone selling weapons (or other stuff), student's parents, and these NPCs should make actions related to what happened with their children (crying, looking after the missing ones). And please try make the cops walk in the school and Yandere jump, when i play a game that my character does not jump the game seems to be incomplete (and some people like to run jumping)
Take your time to build the game.

While I voted for open world, I don't think you should add it just because we want it. I think that the world should somehow work towards expanding on Yandere Simulator's main goal: being a yandere simulator. I should be able to find special weapons in the open world, have special elimination techniques, be able to stalk people and sabotage their social life outside of school. Maybe there'll even be specific rivals who are only in the town. And, if there are quests, the rewards should somehow help you eliminate the rivals. Just because it's open world doesn't mean you can't have a singular goal.
If open world would be implemented, much must be changed for it to flow nicely and "be worth it", like the removal of a time limit and a more in depth character customization (i.e. the ability to buy new clothes and panties). Just the ability to stalk over a larger area will not be sufficient.
Compromise is the key. It would be great if you could just add a couple of after school activities, such as going to the mall or the beach (you can either overhear your rival talking to a friend about going places or befriend them enough yourself to be able to ask them out). Would be kinda cool if you could frame your rival for shoplifting or theft.
When it comes to voice acting, i dont really think its needed when it comes to direct conversations between the pc and someone else. That could mostly be controlled by text, but to overhear a conversation, on the other hand, is a bit different.
Mini-quests would be kinda cool as an effective way to increase reputation. One might be that a fellow student really want a new shirt, but cannot afford it, but penniless yandere-chan (the store wont allow panty shots as a valid currency) might get a five-finger discount if sly and cunning enough. If not, damage to reputation and banned from said store. A simpler one might be "help student X to study" or "confess to X in Y's place".
I can wait but I can't really help with the programming or funding part and that is why I chose the third option. But my main advice to focus on the objective of the game and, using the agile method (kinda like how you are working now), implement different environments in later when the complete requirements of the game is met.
The problem with open-air games is the dissapointment you feel when you find out that you can't interact with certain things you really wanted to interact with. One of the reasons why these things are not interactive could be that it is unnecessary and only used to enhance the features of the environment.

Compromise. Add different venues you can switch between, them unlocking each week. This would add variety to the world, and the difficulty of having to track down where Rival-Chan will be, and at what time.
I was reading the other comments, and I'm going to second what someone else said about incorporating a newspaper to detail how you killed a student. You wouldn't even have to do an open-world setting for that to work, just have it appear at the end of the day when the screen would fade to black. A big spinning newspaper would make its way into view with a headline explaining what atrocity had been committed that day.
This shit is ripped right out of Blood Money, but I mean, come on that was a big reason why that game was so replayable.
I think adding modular, self contained, environments is a better idea than making a whole open world myself. That way you'll don't need to make everything, just the interesting parts. ;)
It could also potentially help with future DLC. Say you made a summer fireworks festival DLC. You could add the village shrine & festival grounds as a new environment without having to have all made first. If you could also do something like make the environment free for everyone in a patch but you only get the festival content if you buy the DLC. That way everyone who plays Yandere Sim would have some benefits from the DLC, but it would add value to own it too.
Anyways, those are just my thoughts.
Having an open-world setting would not only add much more replayability to the game, but also serve to further what enjoyment could be sucked from each individual play. It would bring about not only a change of setting, but also an expansion of the concepts currently in play (such as using your skills from classes to assist in activities in the town).
Honestly though, you're opening a whole bag of worms here, dev. Because not only are you creating this town, but you're also filling it with enough content to justify its existence. This is the kind of thing that makes a game infinitely early-access, because the devs want to keep expanding and expanding without ever thinking of ending it. I voted for you to do it because I have faith you'll be able to steer this boat to its destination, but don't do it just because the votes tell you that you have to. Take the game in the direction you think it deserves to take.
Hey Dev! I think it would be both fun and realistic if the game took place in a small town. Here is why:
Yandere Simulator is a game about stalking and murdering, so you could do way more things in town.
You could buy, for example, gifts. What if Yandere-chan bought flowers, write her rival's name on it and put in someone's locker? Or write Senpai's name, asking her to meet Senpai at someplace, where Yandere-chan will be waiting to kill her (of course).
You could stalk your rival to discover with who she speaks the most when leaves the school, or leave something at her way to home. A love letter? A trap? What if you tell someone she wants to confess her feelings after school? What if she rejects him, he gets angry and gossip about her? (him reaction would be different according to who Yandere-chan sent)
And, of course, you could stalk Senpai. With who he speaks the most? Don't tell me he talks with that disgusting imouto all his way home. What if he dropped a book, or another apple for Yandere-chan's Senpai Shrine? Wait... What if Senpai Shrine is empty at the beginnin' of the game and THE PLAYER needs to collect Senpai's objects him/herself?! Waaait, what if the player won something at the end of the game if him/her collected ALL objects? Those objects would be at: his locker, his house, his way to home (if dropped), etc.
What if you overhead someone's conversation? A student and a non-student's conversation? Don't tell me someone dates a way-too-much-older person? That is a nice secret. It would be horrible if someone told EVERYONE about it. Unless - of course - that student do a favor for Yandere-chan. Like distracting the nurse so we can pick up the syringe and/or the tranquilizer, distracting students so we can get rid of a body or suspect things, and everything you probably already thought.
And you told us about another rival who would be yandere too. What if she stalk us in our way home? Creepy... What if we get caught?
It could make murdering outside school harder, I know, with police and all. So the player would be careful and learn how to murder and get away with that murder in both places.
It WILL and NEEDS to take time. The final version WILL delay. But who cares? I want to stalk Senpai all his way home, walk through the town, kill in a thousand different ways, inside and outside school. I would totally buy a game like that.

I think that to minimize having to make a house for EVERY student have some living in dormitorys. Also i think that a bit of randomness should be introduced into schedules of the students so that every day doesn't turn into the same predictable grind.

I think the game should take place in a town , i have more advice there , i think you can build a house yo let the students live , than there will be more way to murder , maybe hold the dead body in the house and find a time to ...... Ok than , and i think students cam have a lunch outside , or some student have a lunch in school , when the school are not many students , we can murder and handle the dead body more easy , I hope my advices helps.

Having a full on open world could be interesting. I like exploring those and having fun around, but it also seems a bit redundant for this kind of game, no? Sometimes it's a little overwhelming, as well. It depends on the kind of genre. However, I can't say that it wouldn't work with full accuracy, really.
I think compromising would be an ideal middle with quality over quantity.
i think it will be really good to have a open world feature for yensim. I dont care if it will delay the release date, I just need a really fun game (althougth it has already very good). Then, I have a little problem. Will yenSim have a complete story line or just "free style" killing. In my opinion, people may get bored very quickly after murdered several girls. A story line can push the player to contiune the game. Maybe very girls have a different background story? So they can only be killed by certain way. For example, one girl is always very positive, you cant just throw her from the top of the building because no one will believe she will suicide and the police will find out it is a murder by finding evidences such as maybe finger print on the letter. That is only my advice.
Would be great if there's an opportunity to stalk senpai/rivals when they are at home, this can make the game a lot more immersive if done properly.
I prefer an open world structure, but it really depends on how much more polished the game can be by compromising this feature.
For your information, the concept of this game is so attractive that I am willing to pay ~US$40 for it.
Having considerable experience in game development, I strongly recommend you stay with your current plan, and focus on quality instead of quantity.
Make sure you have enough content for the open world towards the goal of eliminating the rival, improving Yandere-chan's stats, learning new info on students, having various things to do in the town to improve reputation, stuff like that...
i personally the game should be more focused, and keep it mostly to high school murder life, making sure it's doing my what it does do really well instead of only being okay at a lot of things. But, I like the idea of occasional environments. Perhaps it could function like the "meet me @" notes, saying you wanna see someone at the arcade or whatever and have a new set of challenges and tools to work around if you want to kill them.
There seems to be an overwhelming hope for open world, though, to which I say, only if there are benefits! Being able to stalk other kids (and senpai) as walk home from school would be neat!
I think Yandere sim could benefit a lot from becoming a more immersive open world, especially if it gives you the option to play the part of Yandere outside the school environment, run side quests for students to gain certain rewards.
Possible rewards could be things like; reputation for helping popular students, tutoring from smart or athletic students, or even damaging the reputation of other students by doing quests for delinquents.) it's fun to think about the possibilities of interacting with other students as well as killing them. If every student has a life or something they could conceivably contribute then it would make selecting your victims a much more srategic process than simply: "They are in my way, KILL!" and more like: "They are in my way, but can I benefit more by letting them live just a little bit longer?"
A more open world would also give you a great opportunity to add a day/night cycle to the game, stalk sempai/targets to a greater degree, and even plan out intricate home-invasion schemes. You know the house will be empty at this time (or you can call one of them out to a meeting to make the house empty) and use that as an opportunity to sneak in. Or, you could take a risk and try entering while everyone is asleep.
Possible reasons for home invasion: Gathering information, steal panties, planting surveillance bugs (make future home invasions easier as long as you hide them well) poisoning medication or food, or just setting up an ambush so you can abduct them.

I think that an open world game would be too much to add and while it would probably be more fun I just don't see you being able to do it, I think you should add things you can go to from your door or the school gates like senpai's house or maybe add a town cafe that all the students go to after school and you can choose to go, also maybe your rivals house but would open world be worth it if you can't go in every building? Maybe you can just add a street where everyone lives including yourself and there are social hangout spots and maybe an arcade to play mini games?

I think having a small open world would add quite a lot to yandere Sim for example: having to leave your house in the middle of the night and braking into the school to retrieve your victim and having to take them home without being seen or recognized would add alot to tension and fun to the game and would lose something if you were just told what happened, furthermore I really liked one Key concept YandereDev brought up, I idea of the school being like a slice of life anime to begin with but if Yandere-chan begins killing the school's atmosphere gradually becomes darker like something out of a horror/silent hill game, so what if the small town did the same ? the town starts off happy and cheerful the shopkeepers and townsfolk are talkative but as yandere-chan begins killing the town becomes bleak and desolate the shop prices would increase and there would be police officers on patrol making murder harder to get away with.
I feel it´s very important to have other places than school to work with. otherwise, it doesn´t feel realistic, which is something that most other aspects of the game is going for. an open world isn´t nescesary, but a school girl has more options than killing at school and preparing at school, and most people have personal lives, including your potential rivals. I suggest having maybe a shopping centre as a hub for different shops with different in-game purposes. if not that, I think at least an ability to go to different places from the menu at the door should be in there as an important part of the game. these are just my opinions though. do with them as you´d like.
It would be intresting to be able to steal things to add to the shrine from senpai's house. It could grant passive bonuses.
You should make the yandere simulator with school as Base Game, while if you ever decided to make an open-world game as an Expansion Game. an example yandere neighbourhood map as expansion 1, yandere shopping area as expansion 2 etc.. this is basically my opinion really. rather than compiling all in once, for players who want only play the Base game or who likes to add Expansion game kinda like playing The Sims with Expansion Game.
For Jumping like the one video you show earlier, i don't think its necessary but i could probably get an idea using it to access to steal photo from outside window just to capture Senpai Photo (Stalker mode) or overhear conversation??. Sliding is an interesting idea BUT remember yandere-chan is wearing a skirt unless she wear gym outfits or wear gym trouser under her skirt.
Need fat students npc, students asking favor? (possible), there should be some alley in school? or like a space between two buidings where deliquents usually hang out. For Saturday and Sunday make it yandere mc go to Expansion Area (if possible follow Senpai to shopping area?? in case if he got hit(flirt) by girls from other school)
The video you show earlier (Natsuiro High School) kinda reminds me of playing Persona Games.

Honestly, I believe that Yandere Simulator should be an "open-closed world," where you are able to roam but certain events can happen at the right timing. Like, let's say, if you were to eavesdrop on a conversation , disliked/liked what you heard/heard a time and place, you could go there and set up a plan/sabotage a get-together/set up people. Also, you could make it so Yandere-chan has to work to obtain the panties, the prices varying according to ability and/or style. And in order for Yandere-chan to do said job, the player must control the situation at hand. This would also allow Yandere-chan to be able to buy her own materials and to "come to a conclusion" outside of school. It's Yandere SImulator, not Yandere High School, allow it to be more open, but not too open. Have people from the high school have a life outside that you can sabotage. Have more to where you could meet your Senpai, and it not seem to strange, just a coincidence.
I would love to see Yandere Sim become more open world, however it would have to be to a much lesser degree than the example game. Yandere Chan is no social butterfly as far as the game is set up currently, and the strength of an open world enviroment in this type of game (I can only imagine as a non-dev currently) would be built around side quests, further stat, skill or "social link" style character/relationship building, mini-games, collectables, unique kills (I thought about all the enviromental hazards you can use and interesting new dumping methods like an anime Hitman), ect. However, for this game with such a simple premise to be expanded to a full on open world it could be too much on you to do and could damage the game for being too big for the concept, no matter how much I would love to see Yandere Chan freely roam the streets and become a much more diverse game than originally intended. Sure you can have a giant open world, but with the game being built around staying at the school as a murderous sociopath there's only so much you can do. I thought about it in the way Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was open world, where you can explore the surprisingly huge and detailed hub world but can do pretty much nothing with it but look at the pointless scenic vistas. Yandere Chan would have to be almost completely different in terms of interaction in order to make an open world seem necessary, so a complete overhaul of the mechanics would basically be a necessity, like going on dates or something akin to that (which is something you've previously stated you don't want this game to be.)
I'm going with the compromise choice, for now at the very least, because another commenter on here had a really good idea I wanted to expand upon: Much like Persona 3 and 4, a hub world with new environments such as a Shopping Mall to buy new weapons or clothing, build stats after school, have mini-games or side quests, have incredibly fun interactables in the enviroment to kill your rivals, or gather intelligence from stalking Senpai or other students would be an incredibly fun way to have open world elements without having to change the core gameplay style as drastically and still feel natural to the original premise.
I would volunteer to help make the game since I desperately want to get into game development, but I have basically no experience in the field so I'd have to be taught everything from scratch. Hopefully I'll be have the skills to help develop Yandere Sim 2: Yandere Harder, but for now all I can do to support is give my 2 cents.
I don't think a such open world will really improve the game, unless the town offer some new and interresting features more than "stalking senpai" or "kill rivals out of school". but the idea of the hill is great, and it make me think of something : what about a "school neighbourhood" with cool stuff like an abandonned building, a river with a bridge, school facility, club locals like cooking room (so much possibility to kill someone in a kichen, i would like so much to sabotate an oven !), computer room where you can log in with one of your rival ID (if you manage to found it) and go to forbidden web site so she get expel. also it coul be great to sneak inside the school at night to built some more "elaborate" trap or turn the innocent ghost hunt of your rival into bloodbath ! yeah, instead of an open city, a think that a bigger school with other stuff around could be better. here a last thing i want to say : your work is GREAT ! I always hungrily wait for your videos, the sad thing is...... I can't play your game, my computer is shitty as hell, I must wait to have a better one. I WANT TO PLAY YANDERE SIMULATOR DAMMIT !
It's your passion project, so ultimately you should do what you feel is right. That said, my suggestion would be for you to focus first on adding as much detail, interactivity, and variety within that limited school environment. At some point, possibly even post release, you could add outside events, stalking senpai on dates (whether you sabotage the date or flat out kill the girl could be different options) or school trips that could introduce varied challenges and gameplay options, like festivals with large crowds and fireworks to hide noise, beaches with open lines of sight but lots of ways to "accidentally" die (and m...miszugi), and so on.
Yeah sure why not make it a open-world game. But that can come later, focus on completing the school first and mechanics then you should work on the town part, you will need an army of modeller, code writer, AI system and such much more.

It would be pretty cool if u could stalk all ur rivals see their routine to plan ur murder. Allso that u can go into shops to buy stuff to kill with.
+Yandere Dev I like the idea, but would the open world be part of the main objective to kill senpai's admirers? OIr would it just be an added mini game to keep us entertained? If you could make it so that you followed senpai home, avoid being seen when kidnapping a girl in the music box, killing girls outside of school that would be worth the wait, if its to do random things that dont link to the main mission i dont think its worth it.
Maybe that could be another game you make after, an extension perhaps.
For now i am happy with how yandere simulator is progressing with the stealth kills and npc interaction.
You could add more locations and make them travel based such as the basement or when you go from your room to your school. Instead of when the school finishes you go to sleep add a sleep option so the player decides when the day is over, and if they want to travel to the beach, club, etc. Stalking senpai could help to hint out the locations he will be, or other npcs.
The problem is you would have to make it a "living" open world like GTA5, where it seems like every person have a routine and a individual life. Otherwise would fall flat on it self, yes open world means more locations, but if they are dead (or npc just stands/walks around aimlessly) it looses its meaning.
I would say you should make school-"event" based hubs, that present a different environment at the same location (sports day, school festival, maybe even a field trip to the forest if you wanna go beyond).
Think like the Hitman games, where you have a open map but still a very closed up eco-system for your npc to walk around.
By the nature of you game (the day mechanics) it seems like such system would benefit greatly for the gameplay, the day before the schoolplay you can set up some heavy sandbags where you know your target gonna perform during the big night and that way plan ahead to create more "secure" takedowns if you prep and coordinate for the right moment.
One thing you need to do is make a biggest school with more students more classroms a canteen something like this
Whilst I think an open world yan-simple would be awesome I think that just adding more environments I. E. Beach, bathhouse etc would more than likely be best. Also if you ever want a volunteer to make some building models and such i'd be more happy to help (I'm currently studies games development)
Finish what you started to do first and you can upgrade the game later to open world if it becomes a big success and people want more. It will be easier to get funded too.

I think it could be a cool addition as long as you dont loose sight in the original goal (the school stealth murder game) it could a good idea for a mini game aspect like jobs shops and stuff.

Damn, people sure are damn greedy, remember guys, this is ONE man doing this and if he were to get a team of people, coordinating them is even harder then working alone.(Let alone the drama) I've seen a team of game devs fight over each other for what they want, ONLY ending up them leaving the project in the dust.
Stick with something simple and go with school THEN expand to something more. Start small before going big just in case shit hits the fan.
I would like to see more areas but I think a a town is a little bit too much. I can't imagine how the town would work game play wise. I think the best thing you could do would be make the school larger add base ball pitchs and tennis fields(not sure what they are called.) music rooms so you could steal the instrument cases yourself for when you are kidnapping a student and many other things you would find at school, like clubs which students went to after school it would make the school feel more like a school. And as long as you make the school large enough there won't be a need for a outside town since the school will have so many things you can do in it.
And I don't know how a out side town would work. I guess you could follow students and get dirt on them which you can use for spreading rumours, or the NPCs actually run to a police station in the town to tell them about the murder. Other than that I can't imagine how the town would be useful game play wise. The only reason I think anyone would go there would be to just explore it and look around once, and then they would never go there again. I mean it doesn't change anything game play wise it won't help you kill students unless there are areas you can dump bodies like a forest where you use school equipment which you stole or have info chan put a shovel there so you can dig up the ground and bury the body or bodies. And I can't imagine how you would drag a dead body thought the city with out anyone seeing you.
TL;DR Just make the school bigger and you won't need a out side town. And what purpose would the town have? Most people would only explore it once and never go back if it didn't help you kill students or get dirt on students.
Having an open-world Yandere Sim might be cool, but I really don't think it's possible. Main problem I see is that I doubt it's easy to get enough money to actually make it happen. But that's not the only concern I have. I'll make a list of pros and cons:
+ Open-world game means a lot of freedom and fun, which increases replayability (well duh).
+ Having an opportunity to actually stalk senpai all the way is pretty cool.
+ Tons of ways to improve the killing experience, by adding, for example, teahouses for dates, or for Yandere-chan to work there, earn money and poison visitors...
- Problems with original concept. Roaming in the street and trying to kill anyone isn't really the way of Yandere for my taste. Also there will be problems with grown-up people, who'll be just impossible to kill, which will force you to level up Physical Education all the time and forget about other stats.
- Open-world can be boring if there's nothing to do aside from killing everyone, so it's take another thousands of hours to make it more than a few cardboard boxes with textures and some people walking the same route every day.
- Open-world game perhaps is too ambitous for a small game developer like you (no offense, Yandere-dev senpai). Even if you get enough funds, the development can take almost forever and actually collapse under the weight of it's own ambitions.
That's all I can come up with at the moment, but I believe those cons are way stronger than pros. So I'd say I would like to see the game still set mainly in the school, but the school itself should become much bigger and interesting (though I'm pretty sure that's in the future plans already). And about variety... How about making a couple more locations for special events, connected with the school life? Like becoming a friends with a rival and a couple of more people (like really bffs) and going on a tour in the forest on a weekend, only to throw them over a cliff or drown in the river. Or perhaps, some school tour to a museum with lots of samurai weapons and stuff...
So, what I'm trying to say is, it's possible to improve the variety without making the game open-world. In my opinion, it would be best to concentrate on school, making it a great place to explore, and if you want to add more locations - well, add them as a separate locations, which can be also done even after the release of the game as an expansion. It'll be much easier thing to do. So that's why I voted for a compromise.
Hope you'll read this, Yandere-dev senpai, and perhaps consider at least a thing or two from what I said. Anyway, best of luck with the development of the game, I always wait for a new build and really wish to see Yandere Sim on Kickstarter and Steam some day.
Yandere simulator could be an open word game but with some blackmail outside the school or like you can frame you rival wen you are in the town.I would like the open word feature and i would like more if you create a game with the same quality as Natsuriro High School but with the yandere teme
i would defiantly go to the choice of other environments rather than just the school cause honestly it can get a bit boring after a while, it doesn't have to be a full open world. i can help with modeling different hair styles long or short hair, instead of the vocaloid hairstyles, cause honestly... those hair styles might not help the game much.... that is just my own opinion you don't need to take it seriously ^^"
i can do some simple clothing like gloves, scarfs, simple dresses (can do shoes T^T) if there will be other people in the game rather than students and teachers, maybe parents of some of the victims? senpai's parents maybe?! i don't know really...

While an open world game would definitely be more fun, it's way too much to ask of you. I think compromising with a few more areas would be just fine, such as Yandere-chan's house, a bigger school with more clubrooms, maybe senpai's or the rival's house and another generic area where Yandere-chan can stalk and kill her victims, perhaps a mall, a park or maybe even a shrine.
You don't want to wait too long with development and have people get bored or tired of waiting and stop supporting the project. Perhaps after releasing the game, seeing how well it does and getting some actual gameplay feedback you can revisit the open world idea, perhaps as a sequel, or maybe you could do several areas and release them as DLCs, so people would also get a choice on how big they want their world to be (people who like stalking their victims might prefer mall-like areas or maybe even something like a park or a forest, others might like the school just fine but with all the different clubs and maybe more school events, maybe a police station or hospital so Yandere-chan can get one last chance to clean up any loose ends).
I think more areas would be great but the core mechanic must still be present. This is a game of stalking, blackmailing, killing and ruining someone else's life, not to see the sights, and any new game areas and mechanics should be made to support that core, so before making a new area maybe ask yourself "How can Yandere-chan use this area to her advantage for her plans?"
Personally I would love the addition of side quests as a way to help boost reputation. Also the amount of unique character models in this game I found to be pretty cool, and wonder if YanSim could also have more diverse-looking students and characters.
As far as the small town open world goes, that could be a bunch of fun and would certainly add more things to do in the game. Maybe even a full day-night cycle, so maybe you could explore the town at nighttime, break into school or sneak into Senpai's house and watch him sleep or something. xD
Well, i do want the game become a open-world game, but make it for necessity stuffs. For example, since the weapons in the yandere sim is right in front of the gate, it looks weird. You could make a weapon storage/shops. I dunno what do you think about it but creating a small town is a good idea, we can stalk the rival and blackmail her, we can stalk senpai, we can kill the students outside the school property, and of course you should create that sliding function for taking pantyshots. This is just my opinion, everyone's opinion is different, but if you agree then that's cool.
I think the game would benefit from a small town. Sure, it's fun to murder people at school (and if done right, the game will still heavily focus on the same elements), but not being able to, for example, stalk senpai outside of school removes a bit of Yandere-chan's character. Furthermore, I think murdering people outside of school is an interesting idea as well. Perhaps you could even break into others home to find things to blackmail them with.
I don't think the game needs to be 100% open world though. Load zones between areas is perfectly fine, as long as NPC characters use them as well. For example, if I stalk senpai going to the park for example and there's a loading zone between the park and school, I'd like it if senpai seamlessly walked from the school load zone into the park load zone and not teleport to his destination when I arrive at the park.
This would also remove the limiting feelings of the game, such as "only one murder on the school roof before they close it off". If the game was open world (or with more locations), I'd also have more options of where and when I want to kill someone.
This also opens up for new gameplay, such as part time jobs, stores and such (perhaps different students have different part time jobs that Yandere-chan can use to her advantage). Perhaps some more underground activities, where Yandere-chan could steal panties from girls and sell them on the black market. Could perhaps also be used to blackmail the girls, by giving out their personal information with the panties so they'll get unpleasant visitors or a negative reputation due to rumors.
I understand this will take a lot of effort to pull off though. Not only would the students need to have believable AI behavior outside of school, a lot of different new NPCs would also have to exist (such as police, adults and etc). Perhaps even vehicles could be added. The amount of work this would take is quite huge actually, but I think it would be a positive thing for the game. I'd still be happy with a school only game, but it would definitely gain a lot from being a open world game.
You should really do thing like azurewolf7 (dunno how to link youtube comments so only name here :P) suggested in Youtube comments: shop system to get more items, weapons etc and part time jobs that are 8-bit minigames to make it cool but easy to implement in the game.
If you make Yandere Simulator an open world game you might add several stats of how certain people think about Yandere-chan and therefore different types of semi-random actions. Maybe there could be rarely other Yanderes that might consider you the rival? Maybe there could be certain groups of friends Yandere-chan might get that have different character traits (thugs, gossip scenes, idols and so on), so they might eventually help Yandere-chan or do other positive stuff. Maybe you'd be able to make the rival your frined and then betray her (for example killing her at your home). Then you would have to not reset progress after each day. There also could be a difficult way to get weapons. For example joining a fight club to get access to the Katana or similar. I hope any of those ideas might help you.
DEFINATLY use a middle ground. Maybe add things like a shop to buy new murder weapons and other students houses. Perhaps a park and other attractions to open up stalking options. This game is about yandere trying to kill her competition. The more features and places to do that, the better. However, I fell that an open world game would overwhelm both you in making it and the players when they explore it. A good middle ground with locations you can take a bus to or somehting would probably be best for everyone.

I think it should be an open world despite funding problems and a delayed game because there would be way more options and stuff to do, like buying things and stalking your rival outside of school. Plus there would be more places and ways to kill people, and maybe there would also be a way to earn money to buy stuff. But hey, don't feel pressured, they're just suggestions. :)
I think that the game should at least have another environment, so not necessarily an open world. I believe you should have other locations you can transport to in order to create more opportunities for yandere. She'd have more opportunities to stalk students (including senpai) and learn their secrets. You can create more events for characters (e.g. stalk people on dates, go to parties if you have high reputation and poison someone...). What I would really like nonetheless are more areas in the school to visit (cafeteria, library, swimming pool are some examples). Of course these are only suggestions and I understand how complex it can be. To put it simply, I think this will just make the game more enjoyable to play c:
Perhaps you could do a happy medium? I've recently been playing Persona 4 Golden and you can hop between different locations e.g. towns for shopping but they're only a couple of screens long before you're stopped by something. When you leave home or school you're given the option of visiting a selection of places while taking part in quests which are being added as time passes. They're not massive areas but require thought to actually complete them and may require you to visit a few different places and collect things from there before you're able to finish that quest, in your case it may take some time to visit various areas in town to gather things/information for a successful murder.
I think creating open world would be too much work even thought that would be very nice. So, instead you could make some mini areas which could be accessed under certain circumstances. But before that I would prefer you focusing on the game as it is, like adding the options to bully and frame someone. And I don't think that closed world game is boring, so far Yandere Simulator has been very interesting and fun game and it's just the beginning!
I think the game should be something in between.You shouldn't make Yandere Simulator an fully open-world game like ''Natsuiro High School'' but it shouldn't be placed just in school environment.If you expand the environment too much, the game won't be so focused on school and its original goals;eliminating students to get noticed by senpai.Also,if the game is just placed in school it will easily get kind of boring.My opinion is that you should create a small,small place around the school which Yandere-chan could use for her original goals.

I believe the right course of action would be a fully playable game inside the school only, and once that's done the add the town and the open world mechanics.
It would be a development in two stages, and when you release the game you will have more funds from the people who bought it already.
I'm sure there will be lots of people that might support you with the modelling.
If Yandere Simulator gets an open world game you might also add non-school-days to the game and let things not only happen at the school, kind of similar to Assassins Creed.
Then just a questline or storyline and more killing (or similar) features are missing. I guess that would be a great idea. Keep on the good work :D
Also I'm not really sure how you're programming things like drowning, but wouldn't it be possible in an open world game to identify a certain place as water, so Yandere-chan can drown others in there?
You would need to write a single class about drowning and then just indentify several places this way.

I vote for between compromise and open world. The areas you add out side of school doesn't have to be big. Like for example just add 4 some what long streets, where one streets leads to yandere chans house, second being senpai's house, third and fourth be rivals house. and on those streets add a few house, restraunts, stores, etc.

I think it would be interesting to stalk Senpai in a small village. Yandere-chan could be able to go to Senpais home and collect objects for her shrine. Also, wouldn't it make more sense to have a shop for weapons instead of leaving them in the school? If it was in real life anyone could see the weapons. You could also have students follow you into the town, behind a shop or in an alleyway and murder them there. And if there was a small supermarket you could buy and poison food to give to students (you should have quite a lot of rep points). Maybe if there was shops you could buy items that are banned from school and place them in students objects, then tell the teachers pet about it and they'll tell a teacher, leaving a student expelled. Or you could take the item back leaving the teachers pet looking like a complete idiot.
Both an open world and new locations would be awesome but please don't overextend yourself and leave the game unfinished! Another thing is that open worlds can feel very deserted quickly if they're not filled to the brim with life (e.g. In the whole town you can access only 3 or so buildings and there are only a few npcs staning around the more important areas, making everything else uninteresting and an open world unnecessary). However, seeing what you have accomplished so far I'm positive that you can pull off an open world game. =)
I would love to see dojo missions, where Yandere-chan learns the art of assassination and sabotage from retired Yandere-dono, and in the end gets special shadow panties that allows her to be almost invisible and Yanken - secret yandere sword that glows pink, when senpai is near, and blue, when rival is near xD.
I don't think Yandere Simulator should be open world exactly like "Natsuiro High School", because without proper planning, dedication to the workload, and tons of polish, open world games tends to feel empty when everything gets stretched out way too thin.
Rather, in my opinion, development should be focused on small individual set-pieces and then refining the features of the sandbox experience in each one, so the game doesn't get too stale.
For example, Yandere-chan's school would be one of a couple different places that she can visit throughout the game from her apartment, such as the local beach when summer vacation comes along, a ski resort during a school trip, or even inside a gigantic spaceship in the far reaches of the galaxy for whatever reason you can think of.
Though, the point is that new environments is easier to work with in chunks rather than connecting it all together, and it also breathes life into the game by introducing a good handful of radically different and interesting areas in which to play in without hampering the overarching goals of Yandere Simulator, which is to let the player innovate all the different strategies to get Senpai to notice them. Usually through the creative ways of stabbing everyone else.

Compromise/In between. Just as Yandere-chan, I don't think she would care about a town and exploring it. However, having more environments other than the school (a semi open-world), to be able to kill off people in other places, hide bodies so police discovery is delayed, and being able to stalk senpai, would be fun and would be more relevant and exciting. I honestly don't want this game to lose its original elements and the whole point of being a Yandere, but expanding it into a more diverse environment would help increase playtime and be more fun to play.
Add more areas smaller than the school, like 'senpai's house' or 'the high street' with a couple of shops and dark corners to kill people in maybe. As someone else suggested maybe 'this person's house' can be an area but all the houses could be templates of each other... And also I don't think that focusing only on the school would be boring at all! Only as extra areas if you feel they would add to the gameplay.
I want to watch senpai as he walks home, then buys a soda. I need to see him OPEN THE CAN AND SIP FROM IT. Mmmmm yeah.
I'd like a SMALL town, like the one in Sims. We need small necessary things like Rival's, Senpai's and İnfo-chan's home, a supermarket etc. Don't make it too tiring for yourself
I love the idea of this game but I think that some small bits of areas that can be used to add feel to the game like a hardware store next to that shadey place that may sell weapons something like this may give the game life I'm not saying that having a street of stores is the right idea but place like a park then important stores can give the game space and give a bit of realism on how a teenage girl can get weapons like a knife or Katana onto the store I can understand the info-chan can get them
for you but what if you can make that choice and then use the points you would spend on the weapon on helping get rid of the evidence something like that can make it more playable then just simply asking for the weapon i may be off topic but having multiple small areas can give you more place to murder and trick others or set them up with each other like a park or something this can make it easier to make but give it the feel that it's connected. But these are just my believes on this so plz do not flame me to death.
Feature Creep kills a lot of games in production. Don't do it. At least not as part of the initial release. Do it as an expansion after the core game is finished to ensure that you have proper time to implement the town, give the core game your full attention, and give your fans more to look forward to after release
I am by both of them : do it an open world, but just to stalk Senpai looking in his window or killing more people from school , but I don't want Yanderee Simulator to become a game where you can just explore like a little lost girl :-(. The idea you grew is a very good one... So you can make a town with all , but some houses are studets' and maybe the shop is to buy gasoline and burn some houses down, or to buy some else things like drinks for reputation or to poison them, paper for notes in lockers, or things like that so that the game would look more real. I have some else ideas if you want to hear them keep reading.
Maybe Yanderee Chan's room to be a little bigger and she would give a slumber party (again for killing or reputation) and if you do the town she would be invited at slumber partys . Maybe more outfits for Yanderee Chan, in the dresser to be 2 sections , panties and clothes, in panties section are the panties you create and in the clothes section some more clothes and uniforms and stuff. And my final idea is that maybe Yanderee Chan should be asked on a date by another boy in school , and again the town, there should be a restaurant where to go , and if Yanderee Chan liked it she will do nothing to the boy, but if it's a desaster she will kill him ( the players choose to kill him or not and if they accept the date or not....)

another random idea is making yandere chan have some sort of customization. so different hair styles and colour, eye colour too? just so you feel like this is your character lol
To be honest i believe the better and quicker option would be to add specific checkpoints you can fast travel (like in Persona 3 and 4 games). To not make it boring, make the locations open as you progress the game and other locations open under specific circumstances like learning where the rival lives from Info-chan or stalking the rival to their house (maybe in a minigame fashion where you win if they dont spot you), Places could also open up by reaching the class level ups which lets you learn of new places to buy "things". I like the idea mentioned in the comments of having access to Senpais house to get stuff for the shrine probably from the place where they dump garbage.
I feel that you should make it an open world game as you will have so many more options in game play. i myself dont mind having to wait an extra 6 month to a year for a finished product with as much as you can put into the game :) remember a ps3 game called t"the last guardian?" that took 6+ years to come out and people are still as hyped for it as they were so long ago!! You do what you need to to make the game how you want it so you have no regrets :)
You see, I WOULD say "Yes, make a small town for Yandere Sim!" , but I do NOT want this game to fall into nothingness by non update from a dev that's to stressed to work on it. I'm not saying that it's not possible for you, and in fact, I personally think that you'll be able to pull in off, but I think you should work up to that amount. If it was up to me, I would finish all the plans for Yandere Sim FIRST, and have that as a finished product. Afterwards, the small town idea would be added either as additional content or a sequel. You still probably want to give it a chance, and I encourage that, but please give this idea a thought if things go south. I don't want you to forget this idea.

I have been following the game since you published the first videos and never tought about it geting boring if the enviroment Washington limited to the school.

The most important thing in this higschool lovely romantic story its the school enviroment. Instead an open world empty city i rather see a lively, huge highschool.
But if you decide to Make it Open world i will cheer you anyways. If you manage to do it properly, a live, active city, this game will be huge.

Dev-sama, I think the game should be open-world, for a few reasons that might strenghten gameplay.
First of all, what Yandere girl in her right mind wouldn't want to stalk Senpai outside of school?! You can have Yandere-chan go to his house and stalk him, maybe steal stuff for the shrine, that's up to you.
Second of all, why just stop at Senpai? Yandere-chan wouldn't mind if she stalks other students, especially her current rival. Kokona-chan talking to Senpai on the phone? Kill the b*tch tomorrow! As for the other students, maybe she could stalk them to obtain blackmail on them. For example: she could take nudes of the girls while they're in the shower and send them to Info-chan for favors or keep them to herself for blackmail (that's up to the player), however, they should be really hard to obtain, but they are worth a lot. For the boys, she should seduce them at school and ask them to stalk Senpai out of school, then report back to her the next day. Of course, the blackmail should be available for the boys, too. Or start a business like Info-chan, but only for girls (d*ck pics, anyone? xD) and recieve money for all sorts of things.
Another reason: changing hair styles on the spot is a bit... unrealistic. Maybe add a commercial square where there is a barber and Yandere-chan can change her hair style and hair color. Also, she could change her uniform at a boutique and buy spares from when they get stained with blood, maybe buy some accesories while she's there. It would be a fun idea for them to sell O.P. panties, but you have to complete quests to unlock them and then spend a lot of money to buy them (idk, silly idea). There should also be a craftstore when Yandere-chan can buy supplies for torturing her kidnapped victims, or shop for some weapons.
Another fun thing to add would be places where Yandere-chan would improve her skills and unlock new abilities. For example, go to the dojo and learn how to take down your victims without mopping blood afterwards. Or, if you skip class at school, take some extra classes after school to still earn study points.
But do you really want an actual reason, not just game suggestions? Okay, here it is: it would be BORING to just stay at school. I mean, think about it. Would it be fun to spend your whole life at a high school (I know Yandere-chan doesn't, but her room is just for changing panties, look at the shrine/corkboard and go to the basement/school)? No, but not just for the obvious, but because you wouldn't have the same options you would at home, someone else's house, the square, or just other buildings. I could list all of the things that you can do in the places listed above but can't at school, but now I only have 1304 characters left.
Long story short: Dev-sama, please make Yandere Simulator open world, not just for the reasons listed above, but for all the fans that voted "Yes" on the poll you created. We would gladly wait more for the game to be better and rank up to your and our expectations.

Make Yandere's School a open world, so, as you said, move it in a hill with natural things and put more club and stuff. In this way players could join in a club and play some minigame (example: Club fish, fishing minigame, ecc), and by the way, i've a idea for a club good for the gameplay: Detective club.
Detective club try to collect evidence about yandere chan and her murders, every member of this club have "detective personality" and make photo if they see a death body or blood.
I think open-world is overload work for you.
But think of gameplay it look fun when Yanchan sneak in Senpai house get something he "used" or Drill-hairchan house to get item for blackmail or "evident" for frame her as false-murderer.
Maybe Black-alley to do "something" with Drill-hairchan of trade something with Infochan.

I don't think it should be open world, purely with the amount of work involved. Many games to adapt the mechanism where you have a a map with a number of points of interest. Places like bathhouse, park, Shinto shrine, cafe can be used. Building a open world map , will only serve it purpose if you allow on much more extra function like , buying clothes, maybe some stuff to your room , change your haircut in a hair saloon, by food , or items that change your stats. Other than that you would also need to fin and manage a number of people , that may not be as involved as you or their vision may be different from yours , as a indi dev I advise on making the game simpler in features ,and building a larger fan base ,by having a good working product, instead of going to ambitious , and ending up like Johns Romero Daikatana. If Yandare Sim will be a great success , then there is nothing stopping you on expanding on the idea in Yandare Sim 2 . I just would hate to see you get annoyed with your own project because of the amount of work involved and potential problem with cooperating with a team of people . Similar to Bully it was great that you could go around the town and visit the carnival, but the best part of the game was the school , and interaction between the students. I think that even if the game was limited only to school building and house, but had a great interaction system, with the gossip, and reputation , and then more events like the girl telling her friend that she is being abused by her father (dont mean that I want more abuse , just NPCs talking with each other ) then it would be a great immersive experience for the player. first though, get the school to a point where you are really satisfied with it, then open world ! or semi-open world! it sounds like a lot of fun
I don't mind if it take longer to release the final game. As long as it worth it.... I've been following the development of the game for a while now. and i think Yandere Simulator really have a good potential.
