I voted yes, but also I think drivers take more responsibility on driving habits slow down, If they have to be at certain place leave earlier.

The new fast flashing bright light models for crosswalks certainly draw drivers eyes faster. Crosswalks should be painted every year. I believe a recent news story said more of new lights were going to be installed.

I think the above comments are correct, however i do know that many people do not know the rules of the road. For example running through crosswalks when they are clearly walk. This happens each morning downtown to me at three separate crosswalks. walk does not mean turn . i also see many texting as they pull into cross walks and not paying attention. and i have seen people stop at crosswalks with overhead lights and the car in the next lane drives through. more drivers ed or have testing done by ab examiners who are not affliiated with the registries.

i think the Peddestrian has some responsibility in checking both way several times before they cross. I have seen many just walk out without looking when they are in crosswalks. They think because they are in the crosswalk, any vehicle can stop on a dime. Please Calgarians take some responsibility in your actions. If you see a vehicle within a block, just wait to see if they are going to stop, even if you have the right of way.

Its NOT up to governments to make certain that people are SAFE in crosswalks. Its up to Pedestrians to be VIGILANT when crossing and motorists must SLOW DOWN and keep their eyes OPENED. These previous commentor is 100% CORRECT. You CANNOT just press a button and expect drivers to be 100% on the lookout, it just WONT happen in REAL life.

Clamp down HARD on speeders.. They get away with speeding all over the city so it's no wonder they speed through crosswalks.. Cops don't care that people park illegally one block from the main cop shop so how can they be expected to care about infractions farther away.. Proper enforcement pays for itself, but someone has to get off his/her complacent butt..........!

Pedestrians should look both ways and check traffic before crossing the road. Just because the pedestrian has pushed the cross walk button to engage the crosswalks lights does put up an invisible shield to protect them. Example: Check your news clip tonight the woman crossing the street with the two children didn't even look for traffic before proceeding into the crosswalk. Too many pedestrians leave it up to the car driver to see them. Both the driver and the pedestrian should acknowledge that they each other.
Pedestrians in store parking lots just walk right out in front or behind cars which is another problem.
